Droid X2 Review

Think I might return my DX2 if I don't hear anything about a 2.3 Gingerbread update before my 14 day window is up. I'm happy for the DX1 owners who are about to be updated, but it's sort of insulting that there's still no word about it for the newer device.

I think the Droid X2 is a great device. The screen was the main selling point for me and it turns out to have a great display. I am very satisfied with this phone.
Has anyone experimented with headphones and had the ability to adjust the volume with the rocker while the phone is locked and display off?

The app Widgetlocker may allow this. I am not positive it does however.

Based on dev leaks, the current version of Gingerbread is causing excess power drain on dual cores and will be corrected in the next version. If this is correct, it would perhaps explain why no Ginger on the DX2, but singles cores are seeing the updates.

I posted about it in the Bionic forum and the info "fits" the rumors of battery drain troubles that scuttled the Bionic. Loose fit. I think I mentioned it somewhere in this forum too... can't remember.

Gingerbread WAS mentioned by VZW when the DX2 was launched, so it is not case of never seeing it.

Has anyone else tried Launcher Pro and gone back to blur because it slows the phone down so much? My DX2 was way more laggy than my DX until I went back to blur. And I mean everything seemed laggy. I actually still think they have a LOT of optimizing to do. My DX felt much more snappy running Launcher Pro than the DX2 is on blur. But I expect things to improve by patch 1 or 2 and as apps get Tegra aware. In fact I would be surprised if my slow laggy UI experience on DX2 isn't caused by something I installed.

And I'm still pissed that the setup wizard didn't launch when I pulled it out of the box. It really makes you feel like you got a used phone.

Your comment is a bit confusing to me. So which UI is snappier in DX2, Blur or LP?

In order, fast to slow... DX w/LP, DX2 w/Blur, DX2 w/LP
DX2 w/LP is really a dog, but as I said, something else I installed may be a large contributing factor?

I did not like Blur, prior to the DX2. Must admit I am impressed and seems on par speed wise to Sense.

Guess my biggest issue thus far has been how tight the micro USB port is for the charging cable that came with the phone. Feel like I might break something having to really pull to get it out every day for the next year or two.

Nokia is the worse for tight micro usb connections.

I am still semi-stunned how well Blur works and I have no desire to use another launcher. Bonus, since did not expect it.

do you mean with redraws? i was getting a ton until i rooted and did the ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 trick.

Not redraws, the whole user experience feels slow and laggy. Lock Screen, screen switching, app launching, EVERYTHING takes longer than my DX pretty much.

I've been using GOLauncher...seems a lot smoother than LP on DX2...LP was smoother on my Eris for cryin out loud!

i have no issues with lp (since the fix i mentioned)

i only used blur for about an hour, so i don't know how much quicker it would be.

I just got my Droid X2 today. I am new to all smart phones so to me this phone is friggen awesome. I cant be more pleased at all Im sure its going to have some bugs or what not but I am in love lol.

I am coming from junk feature phones so this is a whole new experience for me. Like I said to me this phone is awesome. Cant complain at all.

That's interesting. Hopefully not true that GB doesn't play nice with tegra 2, but it could be why no GB on the DX2 at this point. I actually saw some speculation that the GB OTA would hit for the DX2 soon in a thread over on the DX1 board. I'm sure most here know that DX1 is getting GB OTA, supposedly starting today. I'm going to wait before installing the OTA on my X as I don't want to lose root, and everything that goes with that. Would lose my Titanium backup capability for one, and that's how I preserve everything whenever I do a factory reset. So until the GB OTA is rootable for the X I'll hold off. Same would hold true if I had the DX2 also.

I am having video recording issues big time. The only way I can get a decent video that does't hang or stutter while recording is to do a reboot then do the recording. Anyone else experiencing this?
