Root Droid X2 stuck in boot loop

Friend got a new Droid x2. Path that got us here:

1) rooted using Gingerbreak

2) installed Titanium Backup, and removed "unused" programs

3) contacts now force closes

4) titanium backup won't restore missing system apps

5a) get copy of x2 /system/app/ directory from forums
5b) copied all files from .zip above into a new directory
5c) copied all files from droid x2s /system/app/ directory into directory from above, overwriting any that already exist
5d) copy the combined files back to my x2's /system/app/ directory

6) reboot... again and again and again

I'm guessing it's a permissions issue... but is there any way out of it? other than waiting for a .sbf?

When booting the x2 in 'fastboot' mode, it shows up in Windows as "mot single adb interface", however, "adb devices" doesn't list any...

Progress? I guess we are able to (attempt to) run an update.zip file... but the update.zip file I found online saying it was for an x2 was actually for the original droid X.

Does anyone think it's possible to create my own update.zip file for the x2 that resets permissions on the files I copied over?

i know the X2 is still on Froyo...but you have the newer version of Blur like the OGX running GingerBlur....

based on your problems...im guessing they work the same...your contacts is FC'ing because you removed one of the yahoo.apk's with titanium (there is two, always forget which one causes the problems)...

1. this is why you FREEZE apps with titanium instead of removing them
2. if you insist on removing make sure its something that can be backed up and restored

as for permissions...have you tried root explorer?

+1237878237 to what Met said about Freezing apps instead of uninstalling or deleting them...Freeze is there for a reason and that is the reason. All you have to do is defrost it if you run in to problems.

as for your problem i hope you figure it out. Just so i know is there a safe SBF file to use with the DX2? i was thinking one hadn't come out yet but i could have missed it.

While "don't do what you did to start with" is great warning for future readers, he already removed them & replaced the files, so we're kinda past that point :)

Without being able to boot, root explorer isn't much help.

He's (somewhat) patiently waiting for an SBF.

Indeed. And I hate to sound cynical, but this thread can (and I would hope does) also serve as a warning to other DX2 users of what NOT to do as much as eventually lead to a solution for Point's issues. That's part of the message Met and Trophy are trying to get across.

Definitely. The lesson my friend learned the hard way: "Root... With great power comes great responsibility."

(p.s. I don't own an X2, but would love to assuming the bootloader is eventually unlocked.)

not going to happen unless Moto decides to release the keys...nobody has even made a DENT in the bootloader of the OGX in the time its been out...

BUTTTTT...we did just get CyanogenMod7...which is the next best thing...

Any update on this seeing as the system SBF has been released?

After calling back and explaining the situation to Verizon support, and since there isn't an actual Verizon store too close to us that could flash it for him, they offered to send a replacement awhile ago. Would have been fun to fix it ourselves, but he wanted something he could use asap. :D
