DROIDX Gingerbread Update

Just be sure the file downloads 100%, it is really slow and my first one times out at about 60mb. I had to try and re download 2 more times.

These download sites are evolutionists. I remember the good old days of walnut creek ftp. Anyone remember that also?

+1 to chmodx (cool name, btw :)).

Check the file size and MD5 using either my app, AFV (free in the Market), or Astro File Manger (long-press filename, select Details, and wait for the MD5 Sum field to appear on the last line).

If the update.zip file is signed and you don't know the MD5 checksum, you can still verify its integrity / completeness with my AFV app using the "Verify Jar-type File" option.

Cheers!

Thanks guys. I was tired of waiting for the OTA. It was easy to install. Rebooted once and it's been fine since then. I really like Gingerbread so far. Very smooth.

Ok, I have .07 radio rather than .12. But I'm completely stock unrooted Froyo. I'm confused why I need to SBF to Froyo again to upgrade to GB. I have the Froyo version Verizon sent via OTA last Fall. Can anyone explain?

Thanks!

Same thing here... only I had SBF'd back after the first GB leak and have the .07 radio... Confuzzles me!

Anyone know how to get the right radio? or do I have to SBF... AGAIN?

My Droid X was completely stock. I just updated with the signed update version. It was pretty easy. It probably took 10 minutes or so for the process to complete. Now it's like having a new phone. GB is smoother, more colorful. I like it. I'm glad I went ahead and updated it. I was tired of checking for the OTA update several times per day wondering when it would come down the pipeline.

For those of you that are getting the error (Status 7).. I was also getting this at one point and found that I was using the wrong SBF file. While the phone may be reverted back to 2.2.1, it doesnt mean you are on the right builf to upgrade. Make sure its the right one.. I thought I had the correct one but did not. After finding the right one, things went great after that.. Once you find it, SAVE IT!!!

You DO NOT have to sbf.. The radio issue is if you are on a leaked GB build.. This had me confused too..

Ok so pardon my ignorance, but if I am not rooted in any sort of way and want to download the Gingerbread file already, all i have to do is download the "signed" file? Which one would i download though... mirror 1 or mirror 2?

Either, it's the same file. Be sure to check the file size once it finishes. The site is extremely slow and your browser may time it out before it's complete.

Then put it on the root directory of your sd card, power off your phone.

Then hold the home button and the power button until you see a tringle and android. Then hit the search button. Then select install update.zip and just give it a little while to install.

It'll eventually say complete and select restart phone. Whala.

Ok, I did an SBF and the Update.zip succeeded. Booting up for the first time now (taking awhile, though). I think my problem might have been that I had changed my boot-up animation, and that might have altered the build.prop file.

The SBF didn't erase any of my settings, though -- I thought it would?

FYI, doesn't look like P3Droid published the MD5 and filesize of the Update.zip file listed in this section:

Full Stock Version (Signed) - Phone must be completely stock
You will install this file using the stock Recovery of the device.

Of the Official DX Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Release Thread - Something for everyone

So, I downloaded it and checked the MD5 sum and verified that the zip was properly signed (using AFV, of course):

The MD5 sum for the Update.zip is: b406b57bd26445ae76331bbf83a84ae4

Its file size is: 117,239,128 (bytes)

Cheers!

im soooooo lost

azgunz,

I thought that mobimop did a good job of outlining the steps for you in post #60 above (http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-x/343672-droidx-gingerbread-update-soak-test-starts-tonight-2.html#post2747070).

If you are not comfortable with these instructions, you can always wait for the official VZW OTA to be sent-out, which should probably not be very much longer, I would guess.

Let us know if there is anything specific we can answer for you...we'd be more than happy to.

I just installed the update and all went well. I choose the signed stock version. I was a little worried since I had the .07 radio, but all is well. I'm kind of mad at myself for not doing this sooner.

I really like Gingerbread. The phone seems smoother and faster.

Did the manual update erase any contacts, applications, etc? I'd hate for the manual update to wipe my phone. There are older versions of applications I want to keep.

For me, everything stayed exactly where I had it. Widgets, shortcuts, contacts, etc. I just followed the instructions above, and I have the update.

The update worked for me, but its not showing my corporate sync account and when I try to add it again, it says it's already been added. I can't find any way to delete the account so i can re-add it. Can anyone help with this issue?

Im not getting any missed notifications on my dialer and texting icons on the dock. Is anyone else having this issue?

The GB dock doesn't have missed calls or unread SMS, etc. If you had these before, you might have been on a different launcher? LPP? ADW?
