Dual Sim Adapter for the Samsung Galaxy S2

I have just bought it, but it doesn't quite work for me.

I can switch from sim 1 to sim 2 fine, but if I reopen the sim toolkit app, it still shows sim 1 as active (asterisk next to sim 1) even though it's not, and cannot switch back to sim 1 any more: regardless of the option I choose (sim 1, sim 2 or any other), nothing at all happens.

My phone runs a rooted stock ICS.

Has anything like this happened to you, too?

Also, is the sim toolkit what you have to run to switch sims, or is there another way?

Just to be clear,I font need to be rooted for this to work for me?

I guess that as I'm on o2 I could only use another Sim that operates on the o2 network or an o2 Sim?

I'm considering getting another Sim that allows cheap internet access ie Giff gaff.. Wick uses the o2 network but offers unlimited internet on pay a you go!?

So I understand that galaxy sII can use the dual sim to make phone calls and access the web.
But what about receiving phone calls? If I have 2 sim cards (home phone and a work phone) can I receive phone calls from either sims or the one that is currently selected?
 
sntaylor - you do not need to have the phone rooted for it to work. You can have what ever other network/sim you like. It does not have to be another on the same netowrk. In my case, like Andrew I have had one of these since ~oct/Nov last year. On ICS I find it switches fast and without issue. On Gingerbread 2.3.6 I used to have to reboot when going to one of the SIMS (particular network issue?) but not anymore with ICS

dkilsthein - you simply set up each sim/network as "Divert when Unreachable" to the other number of the other SIM card. So they are pointing to each other. I get calls coming though no matter which number/SIM I'm logged into. SMS's do not come through but that's a network thing not the dual SIM setup.
 
I guess it depends on if you want to cut your sim cards. I didn't so went for the no-cut. The cut version is probably more suitable for phones that won't fit the no-cut. I got mine delivered to France and it arrived in 2 days (I selected trackable post)

I also have the No-cut model means your SIM stays intact if you want to switch it around (like with my tablet or whatever). No-cut works well SGS2 as there is plenty of room with the internal layout. The second SIM winds up sitting on top of the battery. Back cover fits fine with a ever so slight bulge at the back very hard to notice.

For me the nocut fits and works fine - and I was up and running in about 1 minute.
 
Hi all

Well received my dual-sim card adapter and after a little pratting around, I think I've managed to get it to work.

First problem - difficulties caused by my main sim being Pin No. protected and switching proved troublesome. Pin-free works a treat.

OK the instructions that came with it were as clear as mud and the "Manual" isn't currently posted online. On an ICS SGS2 the Dual-Sim App appears in the normal applications page along with all your others and not in the settings menu.

I would like an idiot's guide to the App as I've heard some good things about the Dual Mode - this is doing my head in at the moment :( What is it supposed to do and how please? My Sim2 cannot be activated yet as it is a foreign Sim Card and I need to be in that country for it to register on the network. But activating Dual Mode and then typing say 001 or 002 on the dialling keypad, it changes something on the sim currently in use but then when you tap the Dual-Sim app, it brings up for me a load of Vodacrap options. It's not until you type 007 on the key pad that things return to normal. Just need some help here please.

I seem to have worked it out following a helpful email from Danny at MagicSim: -


2 online


This feature is so you can set the device to autoswitch at a timed interval. If you set it to "on" and then put the amount of minutes you wish it to stay on each sim in the relevant boxes. Please note- the minimum value acceptable is 10mins on each sim....do not put in less than 10.


Dual mode

also known as 007 mode- this feature let's you switch between sims by dialing and calling 001 (for sim1) and 002 (for sim2) to get the stk menu back simply dial and call 007


I will be using it this coming week whilst I am away in eastern europe - will report back week after next.
 
Guys, I'm not saying that this isn't a legitimate product, but it sure doesn't look like a legitimate post. This guy walklate only has exactly two posts and they are both praising this product. That itself is only mildly suspicious, but there is another user adrianharris who has almost the exact same worded posts, praising this product. He also only has two posts. In one he says he just loves this new dual sim he got for his Galaxy s2 and in another post 3 days later he says he just got one for his HTC Desire.

Again, I'm not saying that this isn't a real product that could actually work, it's just that... I really, really hate marketing shills.

I think you are absolutely right, I had the exact same idea. Note, I believe the product is legit and actually works. But I think it is not cool to pretend to be a happy user while you're actually just advertising a product.
 
Hmmm - I think I'm with you both here. I have just returned from a week's trip in Eastern Europe and thoroughly tested this thing with my English sim in the no. 1 position and my foreign one as sim card 2. Whilst on the one hand I was able to send and receive phone calls successfully using either sim card, changing the default one via the Dual-Sim software, and could receive sms messages using either card also, on the other hand it was a complete pain in the arse to set either card up so that they could send sms messages.

My whole purpose to buy this adapter was so that I avoided having the need for two phones (+ 2 charges etc) or to be constantly removing the back of my phone to switch sims. In that respect it worked - for sending sms messages it was useless.

It is all to do with the Message Centre number (in the stock messaging app) and also, I think the optional smsc number in GoSmsPro. By a combination of numbers I could get either one to work but it would knock the other out. BTW each time I changed over sims using the Dual Sim software and changed the message centre number, I had to restart my phone.

No after two days of messing I enabled my foreign sim to work completely - so I left it at that and used fishtext to make outward sms's on my UK sim phone number. I had hoped that I didn't have to use it like that but to be honest fishtext is simply the best thing - less fancy than Skype but 100% reliable.

It really took the enjoment out of it all and I will be seeking my money back as I really do not think it fit for purpose. My two network providers were Vodafone.UK and Vodafone.RO. The Vodafone shops where I took my phone were clueless, never having seen anything like it and blamed my phone/software as the sim worked perfectly when they put it in one of their phones or inserted it into my phone as the only sim and changed the message centre number/smsc number in GoSmsPro.

This represents my fairly comprehensive unbiased review of this device. If the software cannot be programmed to change message centre numbers when switching sims then it is not fit for purpose - sorry.
 
Thanks rozel. I was just about to buy one of these as was wondering how the networking parameters got changed for each sim. Looks like I'll be sticking with two phones and saving my money, thanks.

Well I'm mainly a forum browser and have only really commented on this forum so far with regards to this device although I'm certainly not affiliated with the company. I would however like to say that it does work well for me. Ive not experienced any problems when changing sims or with regards to SMS messages. Have you made sure your APN settings are saved? For me it does exactly what I expected I.e. I switch sim cards and that sim card along with SMS, Internet and calling in now active.
 
Some caution advised in respect of SG2, ICS (Samsung genuine) and magic Sim.
There are real issues with switching.
SMS goes offline.
I believe Danny, the vendor, thinks he is selling a good product, but if you search through the forums the same issues reoccur.
I am still in discussion with magicsim.
Right now I can only advise it for voice...

I 100% totally agree. I too am in negotiation with Danny and I have virtually told him the same thing as you in that he thinks he is selling a product compatible with a SGS2 which it isn't. I agree too that it is ok for voice and receiving SMS's but once you start to send SMS's you are screwed. At the moment we are discussing the saving of APN's. But I do not think this is the answer. Didn't try the adapter before ICS so would be interested to know if it worked with Gingerbread.

Why is the saving of APNs not the answer? What else might there be?
 
Rozel.. I do want to give Danny the chance to sort this, but I don't want others to pay and not get what they expect. Its very interesting you have the same issues.

When you think about how this device is probably working, you can see how the phone might get confused. I think it basically is the same as hot swapping the Sim without powering down. If the phone only reads some of the network configuration parameters, (and it seems to be mainly SMS and possibly data)upon a cold boot then you could end up with a Sim trying to use the wrong links.

I have loaned the magic Sim to a colleague who bought his SG2 a couple of weeks after me, but has not updated from gingerbread yet. He has two t_mobile Sims, so we should be able to draw some conclusions when I see him next week. Especially if it is related to Sim or operating system.

I have different levels of failure having tried various combinations of Vodafone, TMobile, orange and 3 with UK and AU.

Again I would say to anyone considering magic Sim 28 it works reliably for voice.

If there is anyone out there who has a fix or fiddle to solve the SMS and possibly data connection issues, please post. Otherwise just "its great", and links to the site or marketing material are starting to look really suspect.

Errrrr Message Centre numbers and SMSC numbers.

These do not change when switching sims. Many networks share each others but if you are abroad and want to use a UK sim together with a local one then chances are that these numbers differ and unless you change them manually then things will not work as expected.

Message centre numbers and SMSC's are inserted in your Message app(s). They are not part of the APN as far as I am aware.

Danny at MagicSim has sent my concerns to his "development Team" - it will be interesting to see what he gets back.
 
Well after over two weeks I emailed Danny as I received no response. He continues with the argument that he is not aware that anyone else has this problem. I think this thing could work but he denies that I should have a problem.

What I would like to know from anyone who is using this thing effectively is: -

1. Does your Stock Message app's "Message Centre No." change to that of the other network when you change sims, using the Dual Simm App? Danny reckons it does but for the life of me it does not for me. If you use say a UK network and say an International one, when you travel to another country, Networks do not share these numbers so unless it changes you have problems when sending sms's. Ok to recieve though and ok to send and receive phone calls - just sending sms's.

2. If you use a third-party Message app - I use GoSmsPro - I cannot chanage this number in the App. Just in the Stock App. However it does provide an option to insert a SMSC number. I sill do not know what this option does but understand what it is.

I have been successful in using this adaptor but have to manually change the Stock App Message Centre Number and insert an SMSC number in GoSmsPro. For that reason, I am going to stick with this thing but I would like to know if the Stock Message Centre No. changes automatically when swapping Sims with the software.

I am aware about APN's but these do not contain Message Centre Numbers - unless I am missing something.

I really need someone with more technical knowledge than myself to give me some theory so I can understand a bit more. The Company advertises that everything is automatic - in my case it is not.

Please help me
