EA Mobile no longer on Android Market

It's great to see users trying to work through this. My first game I ever purchased was an EA Mobile game, it didn't work, I tried customer support and it was TERRIBLE. How do we get EA Mobile to provide better support? Is this one of those things where I should just stop buying EA Mobile games? It just seems wrong on there part.

That being said, the Android Marketplace needs some tweaking. The move to web is a good start. However, as someone who works with developers, I've heard of these things happening when you want to add the same app to the marketplace, but change the price, or change the version. So it seems perhaps Google should look at ways to improve the marketplace.

One other option. Post on there twitter! I've had some amazing luck filing complaints in a public way on companies twitter. It seems to be a great way to communicate with bigger companies to find a resolution to your problem.

Good work and good luck!

Hi,

I don't know if this is related to developers having the ability to set different prices for different currencies / countries now? We received a noticed that we should do that on our paid app. I see I can set prices for different countries now on that app dashboard.

I'm on Verizon I see Need for Speed shift for $2.99 (I bought it during they're Christmas $.99 deal) kinda crummy not to get updates or be able to keep track of my purchase over my google account for my next phone. Then again for the price I paid I don't think I'll complain :)

Anyway, might have different prices if you're in different countries :) I haven't seen any options to have different prices for different carriers, but then we're not as big as EA :)

They release it for super cheap $.99 or $1.99, get a bunch of people to buy it and comment, then jack the price up once it has established some credibility. To be honest, none of the games available on the android market are worth anything. They all are so bad....really...so stupid. I'm waiting for Madden...but moreover, I'm waiting for the PSP phone. I need a proper D-pad.

I'm on Verizon and I see it for $9.99. Something is really messed up here.

I think Madden 11 is supposed to be tablets only. Don't quote me on that though.

Your iPod 2G has a PowerVR graphics chip. The original Snapdragon-based devices (like your Evo and my Incredible) use the Adreno 200, a less capable GPU. Seems our devices are excluded from officially running this app.

well thats pretty wack:( seriously makes me wanna drop my phone...

Not true. It's been available on the Droid X for months. The tablet version may be the one in the Market, but it can run on phones.

There are two versions in the market. As of my last post, it was $4.99 for the tablet version, and $7.99 for the phone version.

It's in the Market? I don't see it there on my phone.

Then it's not compatible with your phone or carrier. Right now, EA is blocking several apps from Verizon users, even if previously purchased.

Log onto market.android.com and look for the app. Try to install it and it should give you an error either for your device, carrier, or both. If it's due to the carrier, and you're rooted, you can download market enabler and spoof it to think you're on T-Mobile, which lets you download all of their apps.

just an fyi, you can use System Panel app to backup your games if they are not locked, then if you want to uninstall it for any reason you can then reinstall later (the backups go to your SD), it supports multiple versions in the backup system, gives each version a different file name, that way if an update breaks the app you can backup the broken version just in case AND restore the working version. This is becoming the norm for me and I am moving away from auto-app updating...

Also, I knew about the GPU issue with the Evo back in august 2010, it is the only reason why I am going to upgrade when a new model comes out (hopefully HTC is working on a Tegra2/3 phone for Sprint!!).

until then I have ordered a Notion Ink Adam 10.1" tablet (tegra2)and hope to be able to use my apps on it. My issue is that the tablets coming out do NOT have larger screen "resolutions" than current high end phones.

the Meizu M9 released march 17th 2010 has a 3.5", 640x960 326dpi display
and several models have a 480x854 resolution display (motorola and sony devices mostly)

data taken from :
Comparison of Android devices - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

the tablet I just ordered (referenced above) has a PixelQi display, which is rather low in the resolution compared to the competition, because of technological limitations of PixelQi at the time they started production. It has a 1024x600 display, which as you can see is nearly the equivalent of the Meizu 9. For this reason I do not understand forcing the tablet devices out of the android marketplace.

as for EA, I have tetris but have not updated it as I have had no issues and do not see a need for any changes from the way it is.

I got this from Google yesterday,

"Hello Spenser,

Thanks for writing in. On further investigation, it looks like this app is
restricted to certain carriers which is the reason you are experiencing
the incompatible carrier issue. We would suggest you to contact the
developer of the app directly for more clarifications.

Regards,
The Android Market Team"

How do devs get the ability to choose the carriers when they put an app on the Market?

Madden 11? It came pre-bundled with the latest official update to the Droid X. It isn't a carrier or phone issue.

EA has changed their agreements with Verizon, and that change took place on January 21st. People who bought certain apps before that (such as NFS Shift and Tetris 3) now had to purchase a VZW exclusive version, or find their old version through alternate means that I won't detail here.

If you go there, you'll see that EA Mobile has Madden 2011 available, but this version is exclusive to Verizon (carrier issue), but won't install on my device due to the insufficient GPU (phone issue). It is both a carrier and a phone issue.

This version here:

Will only install on a Galaxy Tab, but doesn't seem to be carrier specific.

EA screwed me a long time ago, and ill never forget it

They had an online PC game called Motor City Online

Was THE BEST game i have played, even to date!! It was a community game where youd race each other for cash, build cars, there were a zillion cars and parts. Mostly focused on older hotrods from the 60's

HUGE community! People were even selling game currency on ebay, it was insane

One day EA pulled the plug. Not only did i pay $29 or whatever for the game, but then $14.99 per month every month to play and build up my garage ... all gone, because they decided they didnt care about it anymore.

They wouldnt make a standalone game, and wouldnt sell the rights to anyone because they claimed the game engine was used in other games, so they cannot sell it.

So it went dead, overnight.

Im still sore from that!!!

Motor City Online going offline - PC News at GameSpot

The problem with Motor City was that it was essentially a racing MMO. When an MMO stops being profitable (server maintenance on those things is insane), they have the plug pulled.

It had a huge community, and most are active on every forum or news post about it so they are still interested. There has not been a game of that quality since then, for the muscle car lovers.

I am sure they could get away with making people pay another $49 for the disc, and then $19 a month or something. Even with just 1000 users in the community thats an initial $50k and then $20k per month. And no doubt it would grow

The important fact is that the game is already developed and is perfect!! They need to just reopen the servers, and repackage the game for sale.

Seems like a no brainer

EDIT, from what i read they had almost 10,000 people in the community. How the hell does it not make sense to bring back a game that can make them almost $200k a month pretty easily, and chances are it would grow big time. I scratch my damn head. Maybe they ran into some licensing issues

The problem is that the server farms needed to run these communities often have a monthly operating costs in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions. I believe Blizzard claimed that they paid about $10M in operating costs...per MONTH (of course, 10 million users at $12-$15 per month means about $120-$150M/month in revenue).

Also, the problem with Motor City was that it didn't grow. It never had the userbase that it did after the first month. There was a greater number of people leaving the game than there was entering the game. According to an EA quote:

1) Veteran drivers were so good that newbies got bummed and left and 2) retailers didn't get behind it, so customers didn't know it was there.
That's not surprising. We've seen this in other games as well. Everquest has had massive server consolidation over the years and dropped from a peak of about 500k subscribers (2003) to about 100k subscribers (today). It will eventually be shut down because the game isn't friendly to new users. These kinds of games cannot survive on a legacy userbase.

WooW, that is total BS. There should be a way to forward emails from the market or however the (pre-service agreement changes) games were purchased and get the credit for already having bought them. If not, then I am all about 'acquiring' them by other means. That is total crap. FU to EA and VZW
