Easier root

its not just a root method it can be used to flash a rom. there are underlying implications here

This phone impresses me enough that I feel no need for a ROM right now.

I'm just becoming immensely agitated over the bloatware. *Sigh*

It's 10 AM, can't sleep anymore, let's make a go of this. I'll post back if I see through with it. =]

Just started reading into an FH21 update? I haven't got that, Do you know of any posts indicating who got that already?

I did read that it'll break 3G if you attempt the same root method on it.

Hmm. I'm conflicted.

Yes, we all get that. I am just saying that following the directions listed there for rooting is very easy to do. I have flashed back to the original stok rom using that method to get the OTA update to FH29 then used it again to root.

I find it odd as we are already on FH29. and Samsung doesn't list that as a valid update

SAMSUNG

Besides, you can take it all the way back to FG31 if you did something that breaks your 3g

Good point. It's stated it was released last month, it's likely I'd have it already right?

Thanks.

Just go to settings and about phone. that will tell you what you are running on. I myself rooted then used an app called autostarts (available on Google play store) to turn off the Google framework that checks for updates. That way I don't get bothered by it and I just update manually when I find out if it is good and doesn't interfere with my root

I'll tell you I had a major headache... LOL

But it's done...

I've used autostarts before. It's a good app.
About to do a Nandroid before installing Triangle Away.

Any advice on getting my computer to recognize the phone again?
Says Hardware ID missing, Windows cannot identify the device.

Also, I am having to save even the Nandroid to the internal storage.
My SD card and this phone, They full on hate each other. It's a pain.
Oh well, I can copy the file to my SD once it's done. I can use Root Explorer. ^^.

I have no troubles connecting my phone to the computer. Try using a different usb port. I do my file transfers via wifi now usinf es file manager and accessing a shared folder on my laptop or my 1.5TB drive on my network.

try this: Start up odin on your pc with phone not connected (no we are not downloading anything) then start up your phone and put it in download mode (power and volume down, then ok the warning ) then connect it to your pc vid the usb cable. look to see if you got a com port showing in odin. if you do then all no problems with your cable or port ( you could flash back to stock at this point if you want just by flashing the appropriate rom file)

It works still on my work computer.
Odd.
How about if I uninstall the drivers?

I'm considering a ROM but I'm not feeling like I have to.

If it's connecting to other computers, Then it's just a driver issue on the one I used to modify the phone with.

I have seen windows do that from time to time, I would say try a different USB port or uninstall drivers and then reinstall them. I don't like the way Windows handles USB sometimes. IE: you put a thumb drive in one port and windows configures the device to use and each time you use that port it just quickly connects, but if you use the exact same device in a different port, windows detects it as a new device again instead of just looking up a list of known devices and remembering this is the same device that was just on another port last time.

You are right though, if your phone is working with other computers fine, then the problem isn't with the phone.

I am still on rooted stock myself, and only have done minor tweaking (either freezing or removing bloatware apps). I find the Stock ROM runs great for me and using flashplayer in dolphin browser with agent set to desktop is running smooth for video

Sure enough, now that I'm rooted and all, I got the FH22 update option.

Think I'm reverting back to stock and doing the update.

Since I used Odin and flashed SU/rooted, I've had so many freezes. My apps don't force close, they cause the whole system to crash!

It just wasn't worth modding this phone, At least not to me. Not right now anyways.

Looks like we may have a easier root.. I'm already rooted so i cannot test. But its the same basic principal as our current root only it doesn't require a computer or kies or odin or any other crap. Its just a custom kernel with root and cwm already included thats signed correctly so it can be flashed through stock recovery. You would just need to download the zip for stock recovery and have it on the sd card... Turn your phone off and hold volume up and power to get into recovery and update/install zip from sd. And bam, you'll have root, cwm custon recovery now.

That is odd, I don't have any crashing problems. I am also not trusting of that FH22 as Samsung isn't even listing it as a update. Just curious, do you move your apps to the sd card at all? Always willing to help :D

Note: did you do a wipe of dalvik cache when you were done oding in agat and then flashing in super user? I usually do that after system changes like that and let android optimize itself.

I've had similar issues.. I think it's the kernel though.. I haven't had those freezes since installing cm10.. find a different kernel and give that a go ;)

I put it back on stock, Now it doesn't show FH22 as an update anymore. LOL

I'm just not really wanting a ROM yet. I don't see any I'd really consider at the moment.

Seeing how my phone interacted with that kernal was frustrating.
I'm just going to be patient.

As long as it works for you, then it's all good. I could not imagine being on a non rooted device as many of the core apps I use require root (droidwall etc). If you decide to give it another try, feel free to ask a question or two.

Thank you! I've honestly never had a device I didn't modify at some point.

I'll definitely end up with this phone being modified again.

Just biding my time until something catches my interest.
