Root Easiest way to root my G2?

What is the easiest way to root my G2? Last time I checked, there was no way to do this permanently due to the way HTC designed this phone.

Oh and once rooted, will my phone stop receiving the official OTA updates?

I've also stuck with temproot for now, but am considering permanent. Thinking about holding out until the 2.3 update though because I've heard OTAs don't come once you switch ROMs.

I rooted using the unlockr method did it in about 15mins while at work.

You may want to think about root and flashing a custom rom now. True you won't get the ota but a custom 2.3 will be out months before htc does it. Also most otas break current root methods. Look at what happened with the evo or desire z(same phone as ours) ota came out broke root. Now people can't get it.

BTW CM 6.1 is sweet, CM7 will be sweeter.
 
The G2 I have currently is one T-Mobile sent me for testing purposes for my company (asked for it as I bought my fiance one a few weeks ago and loved playing with it) which is the main reason I haven't done a perm root yet. I certainly will be keeping the phone after the trial month and then take the plunge.

Thanks for the input. I get concerned about rooting, because I love how well the phone works now, and I tend to only have sluggishness when I'm temp rooted on VISIONary. It was an easy decision when I was on the myTouch because there was nowhere to go but up in performance. But the G2 performs so well out of the box, I'm afraid to mess with that.

Any performance issues with CM 6.1 @ the moment?
 
Only issue is with clockwork recovery. Phone can not be charged while off. Turn it off and plug it in it boots to recovery...

Other than that every thing works better than stock.

Oced to 1.5ghz

I used the perm root guide from The Unlockr and it worked perfectly to root my G2 and it was very simple and easy to understand with little "nerd" know how. I will be truthful I haven't really seen a difference besides being able to download more apps and I am still trying to delete the dang bloatware with no luck, I have tried different routes but still no luck. If you are eager to flash your ROM rooting it is definitely worth it but I am hesitant to flash my ROM due to chance of errors. But it is a personal opinion on rooting, the easiest step by step is definitely the Unlockr method. Good Luck!
