Help easy tether to android pad

Hi guy I have a verizon android phone and use easytether to connect to my note book which is WINDOWS based. I just got the new acer ion tablet running on honeycomb android. Has any one come up with a way to tether these two . I will be in a lot of wifi places but when i am not I would like to connect through the phone mobile hotspot is out as I don't want to root my phone and it cost another 30 buck a month from verizon. I love this stuff just born a little to early. But for 68 years old i am plotting along Thanks to anyone that can anwser my question.

Which phone? I use android wifi tether with no issues but have wondered if.the usb tethering would work. It may take further development on their end

Yeah it depends on what phone you have. If you have the first Motorola Droid it will not work.

I couldn't get mine to usb tether yet.Droid incredible rooted.
