Edge vs 4?

I looked at the EDGE very briefly & didn't notice.

Did you try a long-press in any of the buttons,to see if the menu option is still there? (I think LG did this w/the G3)

I'll have to look at the g3 again, to see what they did. I do know that they added software to allow customization of the on screen buttons. I didn't try long press on either. Doesn't matter though, cuz I don't think I am upgrading.

I do like what LG did w/the layout customization choices & their implementation of immersive mode. It works well on the G2/G3/G-FLEX.

I think the long-press feature (on the G3) is an easter egg of sorts, I don't think it's mentioned in the users manual.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I always like/appreciate new hardware & keep up w/the latest & greatest, but, for once, I'm quite pleased with what I have ATM & even if I do choose to get the NOTE EDGE, I don't feel compelled to pre-order or, get it in-store on opening day.

Looks like the Edge passed through the FCC for ATT and T-Mobile, so just a matter of time for Sprint and Verizon
-EDIT- Wrong link fixed.

I bet it'll be a mid-November release, followed by the Xperia Z3 later in the month (Sprint release date wasn't mentioned at the Sony event today, so I'm just speculating based on the Note 4 and Edge).

-DOH- Kolio pointed out the stickied thread that he started. Good stuff. Even though I'm still leaning towards not upgrading, I'm still very curious to see the pricing. Considering the limited release on the Edge, if there's a deal that is a "no-brainer" or Best Buy offers something similar (or better) than the Note 4 trade-in/pre-order deal, there's an outside chance I'll still get this.

I've already ruled the Note 4 out, just cuz it wouldn't be enough of a change for me. The Edge would add a little excitement to upgrading, but if I didn't like it, I could go back to my Note 3 (no problem) and just sell the Edge.

Too bad I'm not on SPRINT,otherwise,I'd buy the EDGE from you once you're done taking a "test drive"......... :)

I like the idea of the quick panel and the ability to jump to apps quickly without having to hit the home button. I was worried about the apps on the Edge launching just handling the phone, and I had a chance to mess with the phone at Best Buy and was able to handle the phone without launching the apps on the Edge screen. The Edge has all the features of the Note 4 and the Edge screen. The phone is unique and will set it apart from all the other phones, and I would use the Edge screen as much as possible. The below video shows two Edge screens with apps for quick access.

One thing I really liked about the Note Edge is the camera icon on the side screen can be used as a camera button. Makes it easy to take pictures. Also while I was playing with the Edge, I could use the volume rocker as a camera button. I tried doing that on the Note 4 but it didn't work. Maybe it is something that has to be enabled in the settings menu. Just looking at the side screen you might think that you would have no use for it, but playing with it you could see that it could be very useful. That being said, I'm still going with the Note 4, mainly because this will be my first Note phone.

This will be my third Note series phone, and the Edge screen offers something different, and is useful. I can't wait to get my hands on it, and make use of the Edge screen.

Thanks anyway!

Just imagine the width closer to the original Note, with the height/thickness of the Note 3. That's how the Edge feels, in a nutshell. It doesn't seem that wide, from pictures, but when I went to see it in person (also in L.A.), it actually caught my eye a lot faster than the Note 4. That said, it was still a little awkward to hold.

When is this phone finally going to come out ?

Still no word yet. ATT, T-Mobile, and Sprint version passed through the FCC already, with Verizon being the last one needed to go through.

I'd say somewhere around the end of November would be an educated guess, considering the Note 4 officially released today.

If Sammobile is to be believed, the international version will be no later than December this year. Also for the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Note 3.
For stateside, probably a bit later if history is any indication, probably January, but Samsung has been quite prompt in updates lately.
Then again, you also have to put the carriers testing into the mix as well.

Has Verizon's Edge even passed the FCC yet? I haven't heard a peep about it. I wonder what they did to it that made it unpassable.

My finger was hovering over the Buy button from clove last night but decided to stick with my note 4. The edge may cause a problem with holding it, and the streaming display will only work when the screen is on and kill the battery otherwise - so its a bit pointless. I've also ordered the VR and it doesn't seem to be compatible. If I hadn't ordered the note 4 and been so impatient I may have tried it. But another

Nice video. Love the backgrounds.
Its funny but I just read that the Edge was supposed to have both sides of the device curved. But they decided to just do the right side.
Speaking of which, rumor has it that the Galaxy S6 will also feature edge curves as well.

Oh almost forgot, in the video you state (much like most other reviewers) that the Note Edge sides are plastic. Samsung states it is metal just like in the Note 4. When I tried out the Edge in the store last month, it seemed metal.

If I get the Note Edge unlocked from the USA and use it with a Canadian carrier, would there be any issues? I hear the LTE may not run as fast as it should.

Replied you in the other thread, but will post here as well. The back cover is 100% plastic. The frame looks and feels plastic except maybe for the rim which I strongly believe the rim is also plastic due to the fact that it is easily scratched. There's also no metal smell as well. If you hold the iPhone 6 side by side, you can definitely feel the metal frame of the iPhone.

The Note Edge is actually a concept phone and not massively produced. This may be the reason they used plastic for this production product line to lower cost unlike the Note 4.

I was never referring to the back of the device, I was always referring to the sides.

I do believe it is a aluminum frame coated with magnesium, which may make it feel like plastic but also allows you to grip it better.
I'll see if I can dig up that write-up from Samsung about the Note Edge sides.
