Root Elite vs Triumph

PMUSER

Newbie
Alright guys, I have been mulling this over and I hear differing views. I am assuming everyone in this Root section have a custom rom of choice and are no longer using stock Triumphs. Would you say you are really happy with your phone now, or is it still as bad as everyone keeps saying on forums? My problem is I want a new phone and I am grandfathered 25 so I want to keep that and my choices are the Optimus Elite and the Triumph and I am just torn, because the Elite sounds like a better phone stock, BUT you cannot tether and it has no FFC. The Triumph has both of those things and a bigger screen, but the bad reviews are scaring me. I need a rooted custom rom user opinion on this matter, because it sounds like that is NECESSARY with the Triumph

Root and rom IS needed to enjoy the triumph. but once you DO its much better than most phones.

My new EVO V 4G doesnt really compare to the Triumph becuase the EVO doesnt have good roms yet.

CM7.2 on Triumph is SO fast, smooth, reliable. its really hard to beat.

Also, triumph ships totally unlocked. its THE easiest phone to install a rom to. the procedure is SOOO easy.

you basically boot into download mode by holding volume and power while connected to a PC. pc recognizes it as a drive, you drag a file into it and reboot the phone..

on my EVO i had to install like 3gb of software to connect to the phone, sign up for HTC dev account, find a special code, get a email with a special file. unlock it, then unlock another part of it by using a wire to short two points on the motherboard at a very specific moment. flash 5 files to it individually at a time letting the phone reboot 2-3 times in between each one. took me 18 hours.

Buy the Triumph, take it out of the box, connect it to your computer, if you can follow directions youll have CM7.2 installed on it in 15 minutes.

well that depends what way you want to look at it if we take it to price wise then the triumph is a $300 dollar phone (well thats is value when it launched)and the elite is a $150 dollar phone aside from that if you want to compare hardware the triumph is packing way more bigger screen HDMI etc...now about the reviews those ared clearly based on the software of the phone if you want to compare the software of both then yeah triumph is crap but thats software nothing a lil tweaking cant fix i personality think the triumph is a wonderful phone(hardware wise) love the big screen and if you have it modify right then is a great daily use phone Edit: if you looking to buy a brand new phone and have access to a radioshack give that a try i always see good sales on VM phones @ radioshack

We just bought the Elite for my wife. Her only complaint is when Farkle wont connect. It seems like a decent phone. I believe it has a smaller processor 800MHz verses 1GHz for the Triumph. Plus the MT has a slightly larger screen. Just remember if you use flash that you need a processor of at least 1GHz. Unless something changed somewhere.

here is some stats
elite = 3.50 inches , triumph=4.10 inches
Single core800 MHz , Single core1000 MHz
and like i said triumph is packing way more hardware wise like a system chip Qualcomm MSM8665 is own graphic processor (all this means it was design for flash and multi media)internal 2gb memory elite on has 1gb internal and elite only has Proximity sensor triumph has Light sensor, Proximity sensor, Scratch-resistant glass not to mention the camera triumph has front and back and can record in HD

Maybe I am a little bias being a DEV for the phone. I like the Triumph, its a solid phone and also my first Android Phone I ever owned. Prior to using Android I always had company provided phones using Windows Mobile or Blackberry. But lets talk Triumph.

CONS
-The hard buttons freak out from time to time (rotating the phone usually fixes it)
-HDMI only works on Froyo based ROM's if you root and flash
-GPS is not the best but it's gotten a lot better on Bsydz Froyo and some updates we have done on CM7/CM9
-Audio some times fades out with notifications or is a little lower than some users likes while using headphones.

PROS
You have a solid team of developers still working on the phone through Team MTDEV and a website to boot and fast download area (Maybe slow for pages to load due to md5 generated script I wrote but downloads rock with no sign up). We have CM7, CM9, and CM10 out for use and also a work in progress Gingerbread just no 3g/mms/sms as of yet but does have HDMI.

CM7 our rock, and flag ship and also best ROM we Triumph users have that is built from source. Everything working except for HDMI and also some video flicker issues in portrait.

CM9 still doesn't have a working camera as of yet, but I just fixed netflix and hulu playback this last week. It's a solid ROM but not completed yet, and still needs work.

CM10 still in Alpha but is a good show in tell of what is to come.

Jellybean? Well if Motorola follows through based on their Key Notes this will be the only phone on the Virgin Mobile network with Jelly Bean. What this means is more solid working ROMS Phandroid, Miui ICS, CM10, etc. However there is no guaranty this will come.

It's all up to you in the end but for the price it's a solid phone, may not be the best of the best but I have been very happy with the device as many users have been as well.

Another thing is the Elite comes with Gingerbread installed. This might be important to some that's why I brought it up.

On a side note, my first Android phone was the Optimus V and I really thought that phone was awesome. Not as awesome as the Triumph, but I had come from a Samsung SGH-a737 so it didn't take a lot to impress me at that time I guess.

My wife has the elite and I have the triumph....the screen difference is night and day (triumph better by far) elite also seems to be on the slow track for any dev support. Battery life on the stock elite is horrible (seems like every 3 hours shes looking for the charger) my cm7 triumph lasts all day at work and more. Triumph hands down.

Well, you can think of it like this.
The cheaper the phone, the cheaper the people who will buy it.
The Triumph was $300 when I bought two, $600 + $50 for two plans
Ouch. That's something I had to think about.
$130 for the Elte. that's easier to swollow. That's more of a "thow away" phone. I don't see a bunch of developers going ga ga for something like that.

Obviously if I had to do it again, I would do the same thing I did. Call RadioShack the day before the phone went on sale and buy the two I have now:D and get snuck in on the $25/Mo plans

Triumph is 150$ now. at least at radioshack.

that is the sale price as of right now i got it back when it launched at $300 i meant it as the amount is worth as in hardware is pretty solid that is the price as of now due to multiple reasons like lack of support normal price drop due to time passing since launched and etc.

Elite also has a 1Ghz single core.

I have the OV and the Triumph and have not owned an Elite, but helped a friend set up hers (which she then got sick of along with VM service & got a GS3 on Verizon- let's hear it for having money).

My little bit of time spent with the Elite gave me the following impressions.

-Triumph screen is far superior, no contest there!
-Elite seems to be a little smoother & more responsive on stock ROM
-Elite (at least her particular phone) had truly awful battery life. I told her to exchange it & try a replacement phone, but she then switched to Verizon instead, so could have been a lemon.
-Elite seemed to get a little better reception, as did my OV. I can still get reception everywhere I could with the OV, but just not as strong.

Hope that helps!
