Root Email.apk

Does anyone have the standard Email.apk and Email.odex that came with the phone? Titanium Backup messed up mine. Note I need the Email.apk from the Stock Android that came with the Prevail not the one in shabbymod ;) Not sure if the stock one comes with an odex as well. Any help would be great :)

I am unsure if the titanimum back up is the actual apk could that be the problem?
drfiggins can you use root explorer or some similar file explorer and copy those files from your /system/app and paste onto your sd, then plug the phone into the computer and pull them off the sdcard?
I would do it for you but I dont use the email app I only use gmail so I pulled it as it seemed redundant.
I could however get you the apk from shabbymod .4 I have that available, but no odex that im aware of.
I thought the email from shabby .4 was stock

The clue may be " Copied the files to /system/app and it didn't show up. "

Wrong file or right file, it should copy to where you put it. Perhaps you didn't mount read/Write the directory before the copy?

Try using ES Explorer (or similar) to mount the directory for read/Write, and then copy.

:( didn't work, I don't think that's the actual one that came with the stock phone. I'll give it another go and see if I can get it to work. Copied the files to /system/app and it didn't show up.

I had the issue with email not reinstalling after backing it up a while ago. I used titanium backup, but it would not install. I tried putting it into the /system/apps and /data/apps and neither worked. In irc interdpth suggested using abd to push them to my phone and force install. nothing seemed to work. I just stopped trying because I only use gmail. So this may be a titanium backup problem?

Don't use Titanium backup to restore the stock email apk.

I uninstalled mine with Titanium backup and played around a bit and figured out how to reinstall it. It does require the apk and odex file that drfriggins has provided. (email.zip where he pulled the apk/odex straight outta his system/app)

I used root explorer to restore mine, but i'm sure any app like it will work.

Copy the email.apk/odex to your Sd.

Copy them one at a time into system/app.

EDIT the permissions on the apk and the odex to be user read/write, group/other read. You can check all other items in the app folder, they will have the same permission setup.

Make sure you have your 'com.android.email.apk' in the system/app folder. I uninstalled my email app with Titanium and it left the com.android file there, though it could have just been installed with gmail.. but just check and make sure you have one.

Once you've copied and set permissions on the apk/odex and made sure you have your com.android.email.apk, just reboot your phone and check your app folder.

Your stock email should have reinstalled and appear.

*****EDIT*****

Remember to set R/W permissions with your root explorer program before copying and editing the permissions.

To edit permissions (I only know how to set them with the root explorer app, your app might have a different way) just long click and select permissions from the options that come up.

i'm having the same trouble, but the com.android.email.apk i didn't deleted it, and it's not there, already put the files in system/app like you said, the only thing is that the root explorer doesn't allow me to copy/change permisions when is mounted like R/W, only when is R/O

I've tried the method above and changed the proper permissions and once i reboot, i still dont have the Email app. I have pushed it with adb and same result. I have also tried the Apkinstaller.zip method and still nothing. Has anyone had this problem? I am running 187MoD-HoneyBread5.

Thanks

You sure? the ApkInstaller method should have worked if you put it in the /system/app directory. Then use CWM to install the zip.

Make sure your using the correct Email.apk. I suggest getting the one from the RemovedApps from HoneyBread if anything the one from CTMOD thread.

Must have been a bad .apk file. I deleted prior attempt files (including the email.odex) and dl the email.apx from CTMod and flashed the apkinstaller.zip. Worked Great!!!! '

Thanks again, I was up half the night yesterday messing with it.

I'm glad you got things working. Let me know if you need anymore help. Oh I should warn you just in case. The email.apk from CM7 won't work on non-CM7 mods. Not sure if that was the one you were using.

Okay I currently use the CTMod on my Rooted Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy Prevail. I wanted the version of the email app I was accustomed to so I tried the Removed Apps Email.apk from the newest version of CTmod and it seemed like a version that predated what I was used to. I couldn't move emails to folders and notifications didn't seem to happen so I removed it but it didn't have the odex. I'd really like to have the one I mentioned if anyone has that version I'd be really thankful if you could help me out.

Edit: Okay I found the one I needed in another thread here and I'm sharing the Link in case anyone else is looking for it and find this thread first. The link/files is given of Rarewolf so he deserves your thanks which you can give on this thread.
