Help Email sync error notification sound - cant turn off...

So I got the Walmart Galaxy S2 - love it so far.

The last couple of nights, I hear a noise coming from my phone - it is for a failed sync to my email or gmail. This is not a notification for receiving an email - this is a loud sound that tells me the sync was not successful. I open up the notification panel and it tells me the sync wasnt successful - but I dont want the noise - it has woken me up 2 nights in a row!

I want to turn this off - but cant find anywhere where I can do it.

Thanks!!

Hi newgalaxy :ciao: Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your new phone.

That's a new one on me. I'm not sure how to stop that except go to settings> sound and change default notifications to silent before you go to bed. Have you tried that?

What is strange is that it is not my default notification ringtone. It is a totally different tone. So I think turning off my default notification wouldnt work because I assume it is not my default notification but the notification of something else.

By the lack of responses, it seems like this must be something new or isolated. I bought the phone 2 weeks ago at walmart, have done nothing unusual or custom - in fact it is almost straight out of the box except for my email sync. Thats what makes this so strange to me. Maybe I will change the password on my email on my computer, and not on my phone - and wait for the sync to fail and see what I get.

Hopefully it was isolated. Or maybe I was dreaming. :D

THanks for your response.

Im also interested in disabling this notification. My SIII alerts me that it could not authenticate with a notification. I really dont care if it couldnt connect to get new mail. The password is correct and it works most of the time but at intermittant intervals it fails. It also fails intermittantly while setting credential info under an account. One moment it passes and the next it fails. I really would like to turn this notification off. My SII silently handles the problem with no notices. Why we need to be notified of a problem that is not user correctable is a complete mystery to me. Is there any help out there for this? Thanks!

Hi everyone. I came looking for an answer. Tried every option. Discovered the solution! Open email > settings > select account with error > turn email notifications on. That will unlock the notification ringtone setting. Select silent, turn notifications off, and get some peace!!!

I found a few threads about this.

I tried renaming the sound. But mine is in a system area. So, I can see it, but I don't have permissions to rename it. (Not rooted.) One thing I noticed. The sound on mine was named S_Postman.ogg.

When I would go in through the app drawer to the Gmail app, it didn't show that it was pointing at the S_Postman sound.

Eventually, I tapped on the notification itself. That brought up what looks like the Gmail app, except that it's skinned. the blue/turquoise color scheme makes me think that it's a Samsung version. From there, I was able to go into the settings and change it away from the postman sound.

So much nicer.
