There's nothing really special about them, it's just how the phone chooses to display them when they're received. You can just type in the equivalent characters and when she gets the message, the emoji will be displayed.
The smiling robot is just : - ) , sad is : - ( , etc. (without the spaces of course)
The images aren't sent, just those characters. It's the phone on the other end that interprets them as images. On non-android phones, you just get the characters.
