I have massive problems with both my Samsung Epic 4G's since the Android 2.2 update was released. Here is the list...

1. My ring tones disappear, no wait there back.
2. Phone hangs
3. Apps crash
4. Bluetooth wont stay connected to my sync system in my GT500. Have to reboot phone or delete and re-add to sync system. (this one pisses me off to no end) Sprint will be getting the bill for my insurance increase and ticket if I get pulled over for using my phone whilst driving.
5. phone ringer volume is soft, then loud, then soft again.
6. Icons disappear.
7. Cant connect to 2 PC's and 2 Mac's to back up data (used to work, now won't connect or ask me to mount at all). Have tried with debugging on and off, etc etc...
8. Hi, you left me a voice mail... Dude, that was a week ago. WTF!

FAAAAAAAAAK I miss my flawless iphone. Why oh why did I change carriers?

On top of all this, Sprints 4G coverage is a joke.
I can count the times on 1 hand when I could use voice and data at the same time. When I questioned Sprint, they said "well our 4G is much fater than AT&T's 3G". My response was.... "I will take a slower 3G connection any day over a 4G connection that never works".

Sprint said they will release me from my contract if I bring in my phones and they can't fix it. I would, but I can't back up my F-IN data damnit! I hope they can't fix it, I want out!

FML!

Ok, based on what you wrote it would appear that WiFi works for you. Your contacts should be backed up to Gmail. Now to get a copy of your app, sms, etc. try using a free progam from the market called Mobisynapse system tool this program uses WiFi to back files up to your PC.

Good luck!:)

To me sounds like you need to do a hard reset to your phone. The ota doesnt do a hard reset thus leaving the door open for data corruption during install causing fc's. As far as backing up apps i use appmonster. Not sure what data you are needing to back up but there are several different apps in the market to do such, titanium backup, mybackup pro, android sync manager just to name a few. Sms backup+ for text messages. Hope this helps ya some.

That app would be great, if they had a version for MAC.

OP - you should be forced to use a Samsung Moment and then come back and tell us the Epic is a POS.

I truly love my Epic. It most assuredly is not a POS. I use an after-market ROM - EC05 Stock Plus on it, and it works amazing well.

I have massive problems with both my Samsung Epic 4G's since the Android 2.2 update was released. Here is the list...

1. My ring tones disappear, no wait there back.
2. Phone hangs - Describe hangs...mine hardly hangs
3. Apps crash - this happens on ALL smartphones, including my iPhone and my iPad 2
4. Bluetooth wont stay connected to my sync system in my GT500. Have to reboot phone or delete and re-add to sync system. (this one pisses me off to no end) Sprint will be getting the bill for my insurance increase and ticket if I get pulled over for using my phone whilst driving. - this is the reason I HATE Bluetooth. Bluetooth has NEVER worked well on any of my phones, at least not as well as one expects. This is not Epic specific, imho.
5. phone ringer volume is soft, then loud, then soft again. Are you accidentally hitting the vol key??
6. Icons disappear. -describe this... is it apps disappearing, or icons disappearing? In 2.2 you can accidentally swipe an icon into another screen, or into the trash. In Android 2.3 you can "lock" the desktop so that no longer happens.
7. Cant connect to 2 PC's and 2 Mac's to back up data (used to work, now won't connect or ask me to mount at all). Have tried with debugging on and off, etc etc... such is the pitfalls of using cheap USB cables. This is why I use SwiFTP or eStrong File manager to sync data via wifie. I hate using USB Cables. It's a problem with PCs where USB devices are not recognized half the time. I think it's a problem with the USB hardware / implementation.
8. Hi, you left me a voice mail... Dude, that was a week ago. WTF! -problem with your data connection / carrier reception???

Most of the stuff you listed has NOTHING to do with the Epic itself. I understand your rant, but quite often people are prone to blame an innocent scapegoat without really understanding technology and ranting about the wrong things.

If you miss your iPhone, then I encourage you go back to your iPhone.

On my iPhone, the Springboard crashed about 40% of the time, and I have to restart the iPhone. Apps hang, apps crash, the dialer stops responding at random times, the ringtone gets changed to something else at random times, a reboot fixes that.

If you're truly enamored with the iPhone, I encourage you to go back to it.

I am an iPhone / iPad 2 user still. But there is no way in this universe you could force me to give up Android to go back to iOS only.

I would like to thank people like AndroidSPCS, when I see helpfulness like this it just gives me a warm feeling inside.

If you're done with this phone backing up your data is not that hard. Most of your issues can be fixed with a little patience. Give slightly more detailed info on your issues then this community is great at getting these phones/minni laptops to work well for most. It is possible you got a bad phone and need a replacement. Most of what you describe can be fixed with a factory reset or a custom rom.

Ask more questions, be patient for responses, and I'm sure between the guides moderators and community members you can become happy with your phone.

Thanks again to all of you that take a moment to help us android/linux illiterate people enjoy our devices and learn how to use them to there fullest.

I think most of the problems that arise with most android phones is that the second the owner gets it, they download as many apps as they can possibly fit onto their phone without testing them first.

I never said it was specifically the Epic. If you look at my post I said the Samsung Epic and Android 2.2. Thank you though, for contributing a few more Kb of bullsh!t to the Internet.

1. Describe hangs...mine hardly hangs ---> Hangs: Does not respond to any commands, battery needs to be pulled out.
2. Apps crash - this happens on ALL smartphones, including my iPhone and my iPad 2. ---> I rarely had this happen on my Iphone, had it for 4 years.
---> worked fine with Android 2.1, problems started as soon as 2.2 was installed.
5. phone ringer volume is soft, then loud, then soft again. Are you accidentally hitting the vol key?? ----> Really? you amaze me sir.
6. Icons disappear. -describe this... is it apps disappearing, or icons disappearing? In 2.2 you can accidentally swipe an icon into another screen, or into the trash. In Android 2.3 you can "lock" the desktop so that no longer happens. ---> my screen is always locked, I'm not swiping anything anywhere.
---> as I said in other answers... Worked just fine with 2.1
8. Hi, you left me a voice mail... Dude, that was a week ago. WTF! -problem with your data connection / carrier reception??? ---> could be, except I can receive phone calls and text messages just fine

As I said in a post above, I would reset my phone but am unable to get it connected to 2 PCs and 2 macs. I do not own any PCs, I tried connecting to friends machines. I attempted to use other apps to sync over wifi, but no Mac versions that I have found as of yet. So.... I will refer you back to my original post.

ummm... I dont really have any apps installed. As I said, the phone worked fine with Android 2.1, all problems started the minute 2.2 was installed.

Ok, you have a point but we have given you options to fix. What do you have exactly to backup. Lets start here and i can walk you through the steps to do a proper hard reset of your phone and see if that doesn't fix most if not all of you issues. This phone gets flamed constantly from people that dont do the little things to fix the issue. If you are willing to do this i will be willing to walk you through it. If not, i am nottrying to be an ass with this next statement, but then kindly take this complaint of yours to the sprint store and deal with them. When people have been trying to help and offer different points of view on you situation and you automatically come back with the phone is a pos, well you just added to the crap you are saying others are providing and its not being helpful at all. Not withstanding that both sprint/samsung definitely has responsibility to handle the complaints better, but they haven't. So you need to work with what you have, and since you decided to come to a public forum with your issues, you have invited these replies, whether you like them or not. So with that said, i am willing to walk you through a possible solution if you are willing to try it.

This is a family oriented forum, with people of all ages viewing this website.

Kindly refrain from using foul language, thank you.

If you want help with your Samsung Epic, as stated above, please try to work with us. If your intent is just to vent and rant, then please take your phone to the Sprint store and return it.

AndroidSPCS was quite clear - your language was over the top and he simply asked you to pull it back a bit.

Instead, you've chosen to answer with more of the same.

People were trying to be helpful, you've been nothing but confrontational and that's going nowhere.
