Epic Battery Life Quadrupled after 2.21 update

Well of course I did do some searching, but nothing related to the Epic phone came up, when searching for "Epic cook book" the other day. However today, I was able to find the related link.

I just plugged it in to charge @ 9:00 P.M. with 1/4 still left over and it's been almost 36 hours since the last charge........

So what did you do special to get this kind of battery life? Is your device rooted/custom ROM---or is it stock? ATK, Juice Defender? Any special settings? Did you just do a simple wipe/hard reset then reinstall 2.2.1?

I fully charged my phone then unplugged it before I did this.
STOCK FROYO... No app killers or special settings.
Only thing I have turned off is 4G and GPS but I always turn that off until needed.

I ended up going all the way --shutdown the phone, death grip to turn on (e.g. press all buttons --volume up/down, power, and camera), then selected "wipe cache partition" (use volume up/down to move cursor, press home button to select), then selected "wipe data/factory reset". That wiped all my settings (e.g. gmail settings, exchange settings, ..) and I had to reinstall my applications. Did not reverse my 2.2.1 update but, fixed my battery issues, felt like a brand new phone. "

Okay so I am new to the whole rom thing and all but I have a few concerns. I just returned my epic for 1 reason alone. Battery life!!!! I got the iphone instead thinking the battery would be better but it is only slightly better. But can go 12 hrs under moderate use. Are these fixes good and true because I loved the epic and how user friendly it was. If I could get a solid day of heavy use without recharging I would go back but am hesitant and tired of paying restocking fees. Plus would it really work and how easy is it to do this rom thing?????

PS Phone and texting are my priority all else is geewhiz....plus I am a pilot and I can't just plug it in or recharge it in the middle of a flight unless I run a long extension cord

First of all. PHANDROID! Get rid of all the friggin ADs! I go to comment and have to skip through an ad?! Really?
Now, to my post. After the update, my battery went straight down the tubes. I called Sprint and told them about it. I suggested that since I moved from Pittsburgh to Vegas, maybe my phone didn't know where my home turf was and kept searching for my home signal. I know, but it was an excuse.
The agent sent me an update of some sort and asked me to test it out and call her if that didn't fix the problem. Well, believe it or not, my batter life has at least doubled. I play a lot of movies and get emails out the arse from work all day. Instead of having to charge my phone throughout the day, I now charge it when I get home, while in the computer. I take it off when charged and set it beside my bed for the alarm in the morning, use it all day, rinse and repeat. Keep in mind, this is while watching at least one movie during my breaks and at lunch throughout the day.
I don't know what they sent me, but it made my phone simply awesome. It's incredible. So, if you have problems, use my excuse if it fits, and get whatever update they sent me. I wish I knew what it was.

This is the only proper "hard reset" of any Android phone and eliminates almost all upgrade issues. Wiping from the menu only cleans out the system memory and not the Dalvik cache.
Actually, any upgrade should be followed by a proper hard reset.
Yes it's worth it. I suggest you put the time in up front to read about it and learn about what's what. Then, once you feel comfortable, jump right in and go for it. It's quite easy, and you'll probably screw it up first. Since you read about what's going on, you should be able to fix it quite quickly. Man, it sure is a good thing you read up on everything before jumping right in and then posting in 5 different threads while creating 2 of your own about a problem that's been addressed at least 50 times.

Okay, yes it's worth it. EXTREMELY worth it. I can't imagine getting another Android phone and running it stock with what I've been able to do since rooting and putting a custom ROM on this thing. Battery life was better for me on stock 2.2 than 2.1, but now with a proper ROM on there, it's MILES better than that.

Ok i am sure this is going to be a stupid questions, but i just got my Epic a few days ago, and was reading up on the forums.
What are all of you using that shows you what is using what % of your battery life?? Is this a feature of the phone or a app you are using?
Side note: I got a email from sprint a few days after I got my epic which had some walk-throughs on how to use/setup certain fetures with the epic, and one i noticed which might be good, but is not actually on my phone was: for me to hold down on the screen, then click on widgets, then click on program monitor, however there is nothing listed by that name. Any ideas???

The option I used before I rooted my phone was Fancy Widget. It had a nice clock there on the home screen, weather, and there was an option to have it display a battery percentage. I remember the stock one...man, that was horrid.
If you really want to start getting the most out of your phone, I suggest reading up on rooting and ROMs. Man, it's crazy to think what this thing was like out of the box vs. what it's like now...
Here's an example of my homescreen. Because of the new battery indicator, I took the percentage of the widget off.

I'm considering rooting again. My battery life isn't that great, and I'm tired of the bloatware.
