Erasing over 5K Text Messages?

I have over 5,000 text messages and I can't erase them. When I go to delete all it takes a while and eventually asks me to "Force Close". What do I do?

Had the same problem.

First, change the screen timeout to "never."

Next, select about 1000 or so worth of conversation texts and hit delete. If it asks to force close, say "wait" and let it do its thing. It should either return to the message app or the Home screen, or it should be a black screen. If it's the latter, hit Home and force close messages through settings>apps, etc.

there are applications that you can download. I've answered this question 3 times in the past week. Look for an app called Delete old Messages

and this isn't directly aimed at OP but people seriously need to start using the search function.

hope this helps!

This pissed you off? And not the 99 other threads on "i couldn't find a thread, so i made another one lulz, when's 2.1 coming out??"

Sometimes I think we go too hard on people that are here for one-hit-wonders...ask a question and never return. But then you feel used and violated, so you spend the weekend with a box of Edy's Cookie dough hating yourself.

yea, maybe we do go a little hard on people. I guess after answering it three times this week i just got a little aggravated.

OP check out the App i mentioned

I am seriously amazed you weren't killed by the Lag from texting from having so many messaged on one Thread.

I know if I have a lot of Messages I have not deleted (and this is only about 50 or so on one Thread) the keys start lagging. So I just progressively delete old messages to keep the already slow lagging virtual keys a little faster. lol

I had about 2000 at one point it didn't really lag that much. It was a bit slow, but I only noticed it once I had deleted all of them and sent my first text from a clean inbox. I guess everyone's phone is different.
