Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Alright guys heres some info and things i found

I tested out service in my store. Side by side with another eris.1.5 full bars. Mine 2-3. Debug mode. Both had same dbm . In VZW stores there is a receptor to give full bars voice only not 3g. I came to conclusion that possibly we are seeing our 3g coverage and when we call we see our bars jump since it switches to just voice. I still think its a bug tho because in battery use i get between 40-90 percent no cell service which is wrong.

Also I called HTC. They said we will be able to update more than likely ota because this isnt the final build and that people within HTC are using what we are and it is the tester build. He said he has heard of a lot of bugs. He also said we would have no problem installing the Rom from pcdphones.com whenever update is out.

Also in quick settings it says no vpn. He told me that that is what is causing us not being able to click certain links and apps and was shocked when i told him there was no vpn.

Hope this clears few things. He didn't say when a update would come out even knowing I work as a tech for vzw. he also asked if i got the live wallpapers to work.

Great to know we can receive the OTA one way or another. Thanks!

I can live with a few bugs 'til then...:D

BTW... NAV is scary SWEEET!!!!

Sweet some backup to what I was thinking sitting under our repeater at work. At home against the wife's 1.5 eris signal meters are about the same, hers showing 1 bar more occasionally but with the distance to the tower it would make sense I'm getting a DO reading vs her 1x reading

What about the camera not being able to shoot in portrait mode now? Or am I missing something...

The camera still takes pictures in portrait mode...you just don't know it because the buttons don't rotate. But after you take a picture, look at it and you'll see that the time stamp is in the correct place.

^^ Thanks.

Also, if you have "audible selection" enabled, the click noises being made when you tap items on the screen seem unreliable, sometimes they happen, sometimes they don't. Threw me off at first but I've gotten used to it, chalked it up to just being a pre-release bug.

I don't know if this has been answered already but when I'm in a phone call, the person on the other end of the phone says they are hearing an echo and the speakerphone is NOT on. Is anyone else experiencing this problem after the update?

What dBm's generally equal what bars? I get no more than 2 bars since the updated rom. My signal is at -85dBm with one bar. Is that about right or is the bar meter off?

My handcent message not sent errors are not there since I switched to chomp. I really hope this is something handcent can and will fix since I do like the fact that handcent popup appears over the lockscreen which I do not see that chomp does.

Battery useage is bad with this 2.1 ver. It is awake a lot more than before.

I am cool with these bugs for now as they are fairly minor and I hope all the devs/companies involved in these bugs are listening and this will provide for a better final update, but I hope the official one happens fairly soon.

Oh yeah the post above reminded me that I am having people hearing echo also when i speak on regular mic but not when i switch to speaker. What is the setting in there with a check box for "Enable enhanced privacy mode" under call settings at bottom? Cant find anywhere what this does.

Yes. A *228 option 2 worked for me, at least for now. Have had it a lot on DH's dumb phone before though, so not sure what causes it.
On his phone, if we hung up and tried the call again that usually fixed it, but I needed to do the *228 option 2 on my phone. **shrugs**
Hope that helps.

*228 didn't work for me, but lowering the earpiece volume did. It is almost like the microphone got more sensitive after the update. The earpiece volume was all the way up after the update... it was awfully loud.

Thanks for your post, yeah I definitely noticed that too graphitedv, about the earpiece volume being much louder than it was before.

One other question: I used Astro to back up my apps and loaded them onto my phone from the SD card after I updated to 2.1, then I checked the Market and realized it didn't recognize any of those apps as "downloaded." At that point, I figured that automatic updates wouldn't be recognized for any of the apps I just loaded locally so I just re-downloaded them from the Market. Has anyone else come across this or can let me know if the Market can tell if you need an app update if it's not in your "Downloaded" list?

I have also noticed this after using astro. I don't know if we will get updates but if i have to uninstall and then download them from the market again then that will be a huge pita. Anyone have more info on this?

I know the answer is obvious....but this means that HTC (and verizon?) are well aware that 2.1 has leaked....so are they OK with it? Are they highly recommending people don't download it, or are they really indifferent letting this happen?

My main concern is that something goes wrong and I wind up totally screwed...

Whether or not Verizon knows about the leak, they know that there are authorized versions of this (or a very similar) upgrade build that are being used by their beta testers -- probably hundreds of people or more. They have to provide an upgrade path for the build, or their own beta testers would be screwed.

Ok, so I guess my question might have been too long or poorly worded. This is mostly directed at anyone who is not experiencing a "Time without a signal" around or above 50%. If you aren't experiencing this, do you have any idea why? Does anyone else have any idea why?

I have had 2.1 installed for about 36 hours. My phone says time without signal= 50%, but my battery life has been much better. With 1.5 I would unplug at 9am and be at 20-30% by 8pm. Today at 8pm I had 70% left. I did *228 and reprogrammed but nothing else special. I think that maybe the time without signal is not a big deal. Maybe it was like this in 1.5 but phone just didn't tell us?

Can anyone help me install?

I need some help.

I put the patched zip on my sd card, rebooted, and hit the hboot option.

Then it just scrolls by really fast saying

"SD CHECKING..... (PB00IMG.zip)
No Image!! "

And thats it...what am I doing wrong? The zip is on the sdcard..

Urg, i'm trying to install this on my sis's eris :/

Oh noes!!!!11!!eleven!! Why are you trying to install a leak on a phone that isn't yours? Ota will be a
round soon enough

Umm?

I'm used to the droid, so i'm not sure what the problem is.

She doesn't want to wait for the ota. I'm not a noob.

Edit: Got it to work, it was the SD card. Guess it was corrupted

Installed tester version that caddy posted a few hours ago, so far so good. I'm lovin' it! I'm about to do my wife's phone now...

Day 2 with 2.1 on my phone.

I've had to pull the battery 3 times since yesterday because either:
A.The touch screen stops responding totally for no reason on its own
or
B. When I go to Settings>Sound and Display>Ringer Volume and try to change something, it stops responding, the touch screen stops working and I get an error which tells me "Sound and Display has stopped responding" with 2 options: "Force Close or Wait" But I can't choose either since the touch screen won't respond...
