Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Supposedly this is a bug in 2.0 and 2.1 You can still view the html in the browser (most emails have a link at the bottom that says something like having trouble viewing email that will open in browser)

Not here.... I used 7-Zip to open both the "good" ZIP file and the "broken-corrupt-but-patched" ZIP file and get no errors. Regardless, there's no need to open it. If it truly is corrupt, when you try and boot from it, the 'htboot' process will determine it's no good and back out. Power your phone off then back on like normal, i.e. do NOT hold down the power and call buttons, and it will be just like normal.

No, you have the original unpatched leak there. I remember trying to unzip and it gave an error...thats how the xda guys figured out where to look. (sorry that sounded like i had something to do with it I did not, have no clue how those guys "patched" it or whatever...hats off to those folks, i just wanted to see what was inside the first copy ;) )
Just to make sure I aint talking out my butt i unzipped the copy on this pc because i have a copy on the phone anyway so don't care if it gets hosed and it unzipped clean with 8 files within.
 
Ok now day two after update and I originally reported no bugs (except the google sign-in) BUT now I have a very serious bug, the phone repeatedly freezing on incoming calls - occasionally I get a non-responding error regarding android.phone with a choice to FC or wait, unfortunatly niether of those options do anything and I must do a battery pull. it isnt consistent but appears to happen when the phone has been "asleep" for awhile. I am going to try to test it until I figure it out definitively.

That's incorrect. I have both the "broken" ZIP file and the "legit" (unpatched) ZIP file and using Windows built-in ZIP compression tool, it reports that both are corrupt.
 
I've switched to the built-in messaging (SMS) client for now and haven't gotten any failed-delivery on text messages. I would presume that Handcent is 2.1-aware and supports it, does it not ?

Oh sorry I stand corrected, I don't use that, 7 zip errored on the original, but not the patch

Hey Caddyman,

I just wanted to report the silent dial no one can here me and I can't here them issue I posted on the 2.x when site..I am now trying to format my sd card, download the PB00IMG file directly to the card start over...I did notice this happened after I received a voice mail and email..also the dial pad was frozen or very slow lag...super slow lag..when I turn the phone off it was fine.

I would try using the native BT push/receive options first. I was able to send and receive files with my MacBook Pro without using any 3rd party software. I think those programs you're looking at were for rooted phones running pre-Eclair software. Oh, and it works great! Haven't been successful with BT tethering using PDAnet, yet. I think that's an OSX issue, though.

I get this bug occasionally. Thought it was associated with Sense crashing, but it seems more random than that. So far, only a restart will fix it.

I have discovered one surefire way to make Sense crash: Kill Footprints with ATK. Guess I'll just have to leave that one running. Maybe I'll try to actually use it now that I've been leaving GPS on and taking lots of geotagged photos.

Well how bout this, someone wana direct me to the link they used that worked, this way, either way if it says corrupted or not I know that it works since someone else has tested it LOL

Turn the haptic feedback back on. Then go into settings > language & keyboard > touch input > text input and turn off 'vibrate when typing'. I expect that will give you the results you were trying for.

Yeah, I figured that out on my own...stupid mistake :o

Been playing with it for a few hours...the navigation is amazing, worked perfectly so far, very helpful.

The bugs:

-Switching to landscape mode has occasionally taken 5-10 seconds.
-When in keyboard mode, clicking the button that minimizes the keyboard has been unresponsive on more than one occasion.
-I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the google login failure has occurued almost every hour for me, not just when rebooting


That's all I have for now, thankfully. I haven't downloaded Handcent yet because I've heard of the errors, so for now I'm using the default app and it works fine.

I really like some of the new features and options available on 2.1

I was really nervous about upgrading, but if you follow the right directions from the most recent files, it was easy and seemingly harmless.
 
Chopstick2U, thanks for the heads up on BT transfers! I was not able to tether on my MBP... looks like the protocol isn't included.
 
Maybe I never noticed before on 1.5, but were we able to use WiFi to surf while on a call? I just did my own version of an AT&T commercial and I am pretty sure I could not before.
 
DOEs anyone know if application user data is retained once updated to 2.1 like all the bad a$$ fish I caught on fishin' 2 go, or login data to bloo for example...

One last issue with 2.1! I cannot edit my contact card!!!! It honestly wouldn't even be that big a deal, but I'm a big txter and until I can at least upload a photo into my contact card I have to look at that damned silhouette far too often!

I too had this issue and I believe it was caused by restoring my backed up contacts with Mybackup Pro (causes the "Me" contact card to become corrupted). Ultimately, I had to end up doing a factory reset and sync my contacts with gmail (export the contacts first and then import them into gmail).
 
So i've suddenly started having issues getting my messages. I was using chomp and i just wasn't getting any messages, even though i was able to send them.

I uninstalled chomp, went back to the stock app and i still couldn't get them. I came here, tried the *228 thing and it seems to be ok now with the stock app.
 
Anyone noticing that certain system settings won't save?

For example, Location always reverts back to E911 only, and there were a few others I can't remember off the top of my head...

i downloaded chomp before i upgraded to 2.1 and was dissapointed it wasnt on the new market but it is available for download online ... i like it more than handcent because it does everything handcent does but it looks more slick
