Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Oh, is there an area code match problem?? My contacts all have the 10 digit format in my contacts.. Now, if I only dial the 7 digit format, the contact info and pic wont come up.. It didn't do that before..

The only bugs I have noticed have been the usual ones (gmail sync error and gmail pics in e-mail).

Ditto the Gmail bugs, plus I had the Handcent bug, but that was easily solved by using a different SMS app (ChompSMS or the default Messages app).

The only other thing I have noticed other than those is that when I get an incoming call it displays the phone number for a few seconds before it realizes that its someone in my contacts and displays their name and contact picture.

Regarding your third bug, the incoming call showing phone number without name: I had that in 1.5.

I realize this would be more of a bug in Advanced Task Killer, but can others who run it see if they have the same behavior ? What I'm seeing is ATK not listing all running apps compared to what you see when holding the "Home" key. I can show (6) apps running but when I launch ATK, it shows nothing running other than itself.

Using the HTC weather application I thought in 1.5 you used to be able to click on the bar at bottom of screen to link to website (accuweather.com???) to get weather information. Am I missing a settings or button press somewhere with the 2.1 version?.

I noticed this too. On mine, the bar doesn't link to the browser if I'm looking at the "Current" city's weather (which is always city #1), but the bar DOES link to the browser when I switch to another city that I have saved. Since I have my own home city saved as city #2 (in case I'm elsewhere and want to see the weather at home), it's not a big problem.

So the solution is to add a second city, your own home city.

Yeah I get no notification, but the phone begins charging. Im at a total loss right now. I've tried in 2 laptops and my desktop all running vista fully updated.

Have you tried installing the newest version of HTC Sync on your computer? It was released by HTC on 3/3 specifically for the Droid Eris, so I think it's related to the leak of 2.1.

I did that before trying to connect the phone, and it worked perfectly. I was able to mount the phone as a drive, etc. I think the software must include an updated driver.

I'll confirm that Earth does nothing, there is no option to link a Facebook profile to a contact, and it randomly asks me to re-enter my Google account password. When I do, it goes away for a day or two and everything is fine, then it comes back. Minor annoyance there.

Holding down Home shows the last 6 run apps. The do not have to be running. For example, if I use Internet then Music, then Internet again, then kill both with ATK, holding down Home will show ATK, then Internet, then Music.

No, he's actually wrong. If you did a factory reset, there's an identification number that's stored on the phone initially, and the factory reset kills it. It happened to me where it would fail to program after a factory reset. I called Verizon, I ended up going into the same menu where you switch the slot cycle index, but this time I had to go to another option and enter a really long code. After that everything was perfect.

Did you do all this yourself or did Verizon do it for you? I wasn't able to authenticate and would like to know if there is a process to obtain that number and re-enter it myself in case it happens again.

Good call:D I was having that problem on the laptop but not on pc...no problems on either now. Thanks!

Since going 2.1 seems like I have worked out most of my bugs, all of which were reported and fixed here. Thanks everybody.

Wish I could say the same. I started out thinking 2.1 was great, but like the flu, my bug symptoms have been getting worse over the three days I've installed and now the phone dialing issue is happening: Someone calls and I think I've answered but I can't hear anyone on the other end. Meanwhile, the caller says it just rings and rings. I got the phone to work properly again by rebooting.

I've posted earlier that there's been no lag, but now some apps, like the phone dialer, really hang. And Gmail login has been coming up after nearly every reboot.

On a positive note, the Huffington Post app works great on 2.1 Videos and slideshow links from the app work great...which they didn't at all in 1.5. But Craigsphone and Phoneflicks still don't connect. And Flixster has connection issues which it didn't in 1.5.

Overall, I think this release and all the variable problems show why HTC and Verizon haven't made this officially public yet. I think they jumped the gun by saying that Eris owners would be updated in 1Q of 2010 since it's obvious they have a lot more testing and work that needs to be done if this leak is one of latest builds. I'm still happy I'm getting to try the 2.1 leak with all the advanced features, but in my opinion 1.5 was way more stable, albeit more basic.

I think this is the final version with bug fixes arriving post haste. As for OTA, I highly doubt it, too large. The update will come with a link to download the software and instructions to upload it to the phone. Optional, 'if you don't know what the **** you are doing, please bring it in to a Verizon store' (and come back tomorrow or wait 2 hours) All of this, obviously, IMHO.
As for stability, I think it's way more stable than 1.5. I like the Google login on reboot, hope they make it optional. I have a login to my Exchange accounts, why not Google? My battery finally has a life too. For the first time yesterday I didn't have to plug my phone in at night. Of course I did, but I didn't have to. And my end call button finally works without having to hit the hard key. Just installed the voice portion of navigation. Maybe I'll ask how to get to Mt Sanitas since it's so beautiful out today. ;)

I actually don't mind it either, there's some small added security in that. But I wish it happened consistently, or like you said, make it optional on reboot. When you say you have to login on Exchange--that's on your computer, right?

My Gmail has been consistent, although I have seen that others' are not. I have Touchdown for 2.1 and I set all my ActiveSync policies on the 4 Exchange servers to require a password every 30 minutes of inactivity. So yes, of course I have it on my computer, but I was talking about the pin authentication on the phone. It's also nice to have AS because I can do a remote wipe of all account info if someone loses their phone.

Anyone having trouble quitting Google Maps? The back button doesn't seem to work to get out, I just have to hit the home button to see the home screen but Maps still works in the BG. Also, the search button on the bottom right of the phone calls up a search dialogue box in Maps, but pressing Menu>Search with the Maps open doesn't bring up the a search field. The menu field in Maps has been pretty buggy for me and not letting me access those items consistently. Anyone else having Map menu and search issues?

I'd never heard of Touchdown until your post so I just looked into it on the web. It looks like a pretty robust Exchange client for Android. My work is migrating to Exchange 2007 later this year--still stuck in Exchange 2003. I might consider getting it then. How much is it after the free trial?

Here's some food for though. The version we're running right now is the same one beta testers are running as well, right? Well, i the beta testers get the next upgrade, hopefully fixing bugs that they reported in this one (whether the new one they get is the final or not, doesn't matter) don't you think we'll get another mysterious username come through and deliver it to us again? He did it once, there's a chance he may do it again. Extrapolating more on this, if this continues until the final release is released, we may be getting updated gradually over time.

For those of us that can easily recover from resets can continue to update these "beta" releases, fixing these problems. Those that are fine with 1.5, or the first RC of 2.1, can stick to that and finally update when OTA comes out.

This is just theory and my imagination. I have a feeling there is some truth in the blurb. That there should at least be a few more leaks of 2.1 if the beta testers are getting them as well.

It's very robust, but quite expensive for an app. $20 although I have seen price reductions now and again. I have multiple Exchange domains that I need to constantly check when on the road and this app does that very well. If I only had one account I would probably have stuck with the free built in one. I heard that 2.1 can sync multiple accounts but I haven't tried it yet since I have this. BTW, it works with Exchange 2003 but Activesync is more problematic for the network admins than it is with 2007. PS. Nitrodesk support is great, even on weekends. (not a plug, just a fact)

Ok, so I guess my question might have been too long or poorly worded. This is mostly directed at anyone who is not experiencing a "Time without a signal" around or above 50%. If you aren't experiencing this, do you have any idea why? Does anyone else have any idea why?

My "Time without a signal" is always exactly 50%, but I haven't had any actual problems with reception. I think it's a bug in the software, because check out this weird symptom:

Under the menu Settings>About phone>Battery>Battery Use, it says "4h 14m... since unplugged". When I click the item Cell standby, the "Time on" is "8h 28m..." See the problem? One time is exactly 2x the other, which is why it thinks it was without a signal exactly 50% of the time.

Your percentage may vary if, for instance, you really were without a signal, or you purposely shut off the mobile radio.

I use touchdown because my work had some messed up Exchange 2003 thing going on without active sync and only touchdown was able yup manage it. Paid $10 for it, and well worth it.

has anyone added the issue where your ringer doesn't ring when getting an incoming call and when you answer the phone you are unable to hear the person on the other line?

Has happened to me twice so far. rebooting has resolved it, but, trying to figure out what might be causing it.

It happened to me too. My post about it is a few hours before yours. I've rebooted acouple times since and haven't had any problems. A couple other problems also went away like maps not closing properly.

DEFINITE BUG---4th time now my phone went silent, this time during a call while the wifi was looking for connections, last 3 times was dialing out or someone dialing in and silent phone or dead phone space.......one after receiving a txt message and another after getting a voice mail and a message; the third was after after an email..seems to be when you are calling or make a call or in a call when a second application using the same connection occurs.

So, did anyone ever answer the query about the Nexus 2.1 sense UI launcher, and how to get it to work? I have not been able to get it to function. I have however loaded the clock and the 2.1 music app, both of which work pretty well. The only issue i have had was getting the music button on the clock to work. It FCs the app. But other than that a VAST improvement over the HTC ones.

wow alot of bugs...i hope i dont experience these....
where do you get the 2.1 nexus sense launcher?

Someone, i think it was Smacky posted some links to Droid-life.com where the ported nexus 2.1 apps are avalable for download. One of them is the Nexus 2.1 Sense UI launcher, but I can't seem to make it function. The other ones ( Clock, news, gallery, and music)I have had loaded for a couple days and work well for me. I am not so keen on the gallery tho. I like the HTC one better. Loads faster.

edit: seems that there is a thread on the launcher, and it can't be done. Gets stuck in a force close loop.
