Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Updated to 2.1 I like the speed and responsiveness of the OS. I do notice my signal reading a bar or two lower. Not a problem unless my battery starts draining. I actually don't mind Google asking me to sign in on a reboot. Extra security. The one big downside is the lack of Facebook photo integration.

I can live with this for now.

As soon as my google contacts were synced, they were all linked to their facebook and have the photo as their default photo just like in 1.5. I think you just need to adjust some settings somewhere!

Ok, I revisited it and followed the directions a few pages back. My FB contacts are now all synced with pictures. It just took some time for all the pictures to update (and about 10% of my battery).

Now the only issue I've come across is the signal indicator. It doesn't matter where I go, I've never seen more than 2 bars ANYWHERE! Fortunately, I haven't had any usage issues, but I don't want my battery to start draining because of this.

Anyone know how to make XT9 default 100% of the time? It keeps going back to ABC mode in compact qwerty

Is it possible to revert back to 1.5 on the Eris?

When the keyboard is up, you can touch the button that looks like gears. That's how I changed mine. For some things (like entering passwords) you have to use ABC - it doesn't give you an option for T9.

I have not seen anybody able to revert back to 1.5.

I noticed that with 2.1, sending an SMS with the stock app is much cleaner. The character counter doesn't cover up your message!

edit: One question I haven't seen asked.. does the zipped file need to be left on the sd card or can it be deleted after installing 2.1?

The file can be deleted.

No, at least for me, I'm talking about the Gallery ported from the Nexus 1. It reminds me of Cooliris.

I have been using this gallery since I found it on the droid life site. I always thought the rotation problem was with the screen size difference when you went from portrait to landscape. But it seems the error is in the rotation itself.

Interesting..I just tested something out. if you start in landscape, put the phone asleep, rotate to portrait, THEN wake the phone up it works fine.

still havent figured out why I cant send pic message since upgrading to 2.1....anybody? I thought it was the signal but it wasnt.

No problems sending pics except to ONE friend who actually has an iPhone? ( i blame the iphone) I can send and recieve to/from a bunch of different carries and various phones. Check the settings in whatever messenging prog your using and make sure MMS send options arent' set for something super small OR really big! I think some carriers limit mms to 500k while at least one prog I tried had a minimum setting of 1.2meg. if it doesnt crunch the pic down below their maxmimum VZW may be blockiing it? The 300K available in chomp is a nice safe compromise. Handcent had different options too.

Anyone else with 2.1 having trouble with HTC Weather? It force closes every time I try to use it.

No FC's but its on my list as a possible of three causes of high awake time. Nothing conclusive yet.
Honestly their weather sucked anyway, but the clock/weather widget rocked! TWC has a 1x1 widget though that aint as pretty but gives you the same info, so I'm using that now. The rest of the app blows away the HTC weather information wise.

Just tried that out, and you're correct. Works going the other way too.

xScope choked on signing into m.delicious.com. I had to reboot the phone to get it working again. Exit wasn't enough.

The HTC widgets finally appeared on my phone after two weeks.

Ringer volume goes out even if it's set to a high level in 2.1. Going into settings to change the levels (rather than external volume button) causes force close in the volume settings. Anyone else have that issue?

Also saw that Best Buy is offering free Eris phones for upgrade and new Verizon customers with two year contract.

.

Does the ringer go out once you move/pick up the phone? If so, there's a setting to uncheck which will change that. settings-->sound--> uncheck "quiet ring on pick up".

Hopefully that's the problem.

Can someone send me a link for 2.1 that works? I have tried a few and my phone freezes at the same screen. Would really like to try it out. Let me know. Thank so much.

I'll try checking that setting. It's a pretty useful feature that I've used before when you're in meetings or other situations when you ned to quiet your phone quickly.

Bit if it's the cause of this issue, it's not worth it.

Not sure if you guys have noticed but Handcent recently released a new build 2.9.32, seems to take care of the undeliverable error messages.

The previous build 2.9.31 was the one giving me all the problems after i upgraded to 2.1, i'm running it 2.9.32 now and seems to be working perfectly!

I liked Handcent better because of the popup. :)

Decided to give ChompSMS a shot after having issues with the built-in SMS client and Handcent. So far, no failed deliveries... Are others having failures ? I posted over at Handcent's forum and one of their people said it's a VZW issue (??).

Regarding ChompSMS, I have gotten multiple duplicate incoming messages though.

FYI, try running the latest Handcent build 2.9.32, seems to be working flawlessly now; I'm no longer getting the undeliverable error messages.

not to be rude, but how many Facebook contacts do you have? I have a theory mine isn't working because of the fact that i have like 1k plus. it never had a problem on 1.5 tho...

Yeah, I only had 200. It took about five minutes to get all the pictures to load. I just scrolled though my people list extremely slow and let them load.

Haven't tried this in 2.1 yet but it worked in 1.5. To quiet the phone quickly, just turn it face down and the ringer goes to silent
