Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

All issues? My phone shows only 2 bars of service unless I make a call, then it goes up to all bars. Also, the browser closes randomly and I randomly lose all sound on the phone and need to restart it.

By reload, what do you mean? You did a factory reset in the settings menu and then reloaded the 2.1 rom? Or did you simply do a factory reset and put your apps back on. I want to try it but want to make absolutely certain I'm doing it right.

Thanks!!

I re-flashed (this time without anything else on the SD card) and then did a factory reset. Later I moved my pictures and junk back onto the SD card. I have no idea if this actually helped anything; it's probably just a coincidence. We all have different apps, different locations, different contacts, etc.

Does anyone else have a problem typing "I'm" in a text message using the Compact Qwerty? It's the only texting bug I've noticed. It causes a force close. It's not a deal breaker though. I just have to type "I am" instead. I cannot go back to the full keyboard.

Nevermind. I found my own fix! I added the word "I'm" to the dictionary manually. Presto! No problem now!

That's got to be one of the strangest bugs I've seen on a texting device. I really did think you were joking, at first.

Yeah mine puts I'm in all the time when I'm trying to type in and miss the key and never had issue. Other than my post or text not making sense.

I switched back to home immediately after installing the leak, I prefer it over sense as I just don't like widgets (clock / power only) and don't need that much real estate for my icons. I've had no problems, or complaints, at all with my dialer. It's sooo responsive compared to 1.5 that it's not even funny. Instantly hangs up when you press end call, and with No Call Log, it goes right back to the home screen like it should, very quickly.

I have had a number of different issues with apps and overall performance after installing the leaked 2.1. But after just switching from Sense to Home, nearly everything was fixed instantly it seems. Apps seem to run much better and faster, and it fixed a number of weird lag issues and "failed delivery reports" from handcent SMS. I never realized how much I didn't really even need Sense--seems like it is more of just a resource hog that slows down the overall performance of the phone.

Lack of home space isn't as nice though. And among a few other random features, the only thing I like from Sense are the convenient widgets for toggling mobile network on/off and stuff. I can't seem to find a widget in the market that is a toggle on/off mobile network. I can only find wifi, gps, brightness, etc. If anyone knows of a simple mobile network on/off switch that I haven't found yet, please let me know!

Have you tried the Power Control widget that comes with 2.1? It has 5 things in a bar that controls Wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Sync, and Brightness. The Sync is kind of like turning off the Mobile network. Since it won't use 3G until you open a browser or run some other app, you're essentially doing the same thing as turning off Mobile. Plus, with this widget, you get 5 items across a row instead of only 4. Looks pretty slick too.

I found an image of the widget that thetomlin2 posted in another thread:

I've been having custom ringtone problems since I upgraded to 2.1. Whether I used a custom ringtone changer (Rings Extended) or the stock, it would always play the default tone when it clearly stated that I had a custom tone. But, I put 2 and 2 together. If you "end all" in Advanced Task Manager, it apparently ends your custom ringtones, even when using the stock tone changer. This never happened in 1.5. Figured I'd mention it. Unless I'm the only one its happening to. :)

I did this switch yesterday. I tried HOME and could deal with it, but then I tried dxTop and LOVE it! It allows 5 screens! I like the up, down, right, left movement.

Unfortunately I'm finding just to opposite though. My phone feels MORE sluggish now. I'm tweaking things to see if I can eliminate the sluggishness...

I did find out that the only real "Sense UI" I was using was the stock clock. So giving up Sense wasn't a big deal for me. I've been able to duplicate my layout in Home and dxTop.

If you're using Home, you might want to give dxTop a try. It's FREE!

Ok I am again playing with Home and had a question. Has anyone figured a way to disable the HTC lockscreen for the vanilla android 2.1 lockscreen with the sliders without a lockscreen app or can this just done with root.

I posted this in another thread but thought it might be helpful to post here.

For those of you having the echo problem during phone calls, try turning the in-call volume down a little. The in-call volume max in 2.1 seems to be much higher than in 1.5, and I think it is loud enough to be picked up in the microphone when it's maxed out.

Hope that's helpful to some.

I did a complete factory reset and reloaded everything and it made a huge difference. All the bugs I was dealing with before have disappeared and the phone is fast now. If you are having issues, try it.

Can you please expound on the whole "factory reset" idea. I thought we were not supposed to do this as it will jack things up being that we don't have the true 2.1 update? You then say that you reloaded everything? Do you mean you then re-installed the new 2.1 leak and stuff that was on your sd card?

Just asking, because my wifes phone is all jacked as far as making voice calls, and I really want to try what you did, but just want to make sure I do it right. Thanks in advance....

I had that issue too right after I went to 2.1, but it's gone away after multiple reboots. Custom ringers for individuals are back. I have to say, switching to Home from Sense has been great for me. Much better responsiveness and battery use without any concern for task killing or quitting network connections. Just normal use (not much wifi but full 3G and active syncing on exchange, google and facebook) and I still have charge at the end of a long day's use. It's a lot nicer to be able to use my phone normally without having to search for an outlet when I'm out in the field.

well the switch to home was short lived, my dialer was getting super laggy again. not sure what it is, maybe calll history? idk? i cleared that "call history>menu>delete all" and it seems to be better.

i will continue to monitor it.

I'm assuming home switcher allows for multiple configurations of the stock home? Honestly, the only reason I like Sense is the scenes.

Caddy, are you still using DXtop or what are you running now?

root or leak 2.1? I am so tired of waiting for these soon to come official ota updates. Im jumping to 2.1 one way or another this weekend. any thoughts and/or insights are greatly appreciated

I found the same thing... The whole phone got real laggy. I went back to Sense and now have a mixture of what I had with dxTop. I removed everything from Home and dxTop screens and rebooted with Sense as the default again. Everything is much faster again. I also found out I was almost out of internal space, so I removed a bunch of stuff as well. I'm sure that contributes to the speed up again...

i am on sense W4LLY

for anyone with laggy dialer on 2.1 leak. go to call history app and hit menu and delete all (if that doesnt bother you, i dont need my call history) and see if that speeds up your dialer app.
