Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Thanks for the input. What is the difference between this process and rooting? Also, how does one go about updating this version in the future?

this process you are updating to a semi official OS, rooting you are not.

i am pretty sure if you root you will definetly not get any updates
i am also pretty sure that if you go to the official leak that if another update comes out that is higher version you will be able to update.

Not sure if this has been answered already or if this question belongs here, but,

If i update to leaked 2.1 v2 will i be able to get the Google navigation app?

yes, google nav is on the 2.1 leak, both V1 and V2

After upgrading to 2.1 v.2 about a month ago, I recently noticed that my trackball had stopped flashing when I had a notification.

Going to Settings --> Sounds & Display, the option to set trackball flash has been replaced with an option to flash the LED. This sucks. I don't want to flash the LED. I want the trackball to flash again.

Hopefully this will be addressed in the final release (which I am sure will be coming any day - right after I win the lottery after being struck by lightening).

I think that option in the settings menu actually affects the trackball, not the LED. I think it's mislabeled. Also in Handcent (if you use it for SMS) there's an option to flash the trackball.

So I'm having a HUGELY irritating problem with my Eris. It will randomly reboot itself. If I had to call it anything, I'd say it acts like it crashes and then reboots the entire phone. It happens at least two or three times a day and seems to happen most often in conjunction with phone calls coming in and out... which... is a problem to say the least.

Is anyone else having this issue? I try to keep on tabs with the major bugs etc. but doesn't seem like too many people have had this issue.

Running 2.1v2... did a facotry reset this wkd and it's just as bad. :(

I just did the upgrade to 2.1 last night and so far, so good, but when I check the the awake time it says something like 13 hours and going. What's normal awake time? It doesn't show it like 1.5 did so I'm a bit confused. If the time I'm getting isn't the usual, are there any battery saving tips or things I can do to bring it down. Thanks, guys.

Do you happen to have a task killer installed?

@celton, No, I had ATK installed on 1.5 but installed it and everything ran much smoother.

Since I made the jump to 2.1 I didn't download one and there seems to be a large consensus that 2.1's process management is much better at maintaining the phone. Hopefully I haven't misunderstood that.

Ok...Just checking to make sure your ATK wasn't killing something that needed to be running, which will cause the issue you describe to occur.

Are you using spare parts? I've heard of some peoples phones rebooting from the activity/process management set to aggressive.

No spare parts either. :( I am, however, running beautiful widgets to change my clock and weather so I'll mess around with uninstalling certain apps and see what's what.

It just rebooted on my after finishing a call. I pulled the phone away from my face and before the screen turned back on, BAM! white screen with little dancing robots.

but I dont think they are ever releasing 2.1 for eris because now they have the incredible and they are gonna push that rather than updating eris users

while I applaud you for reading stickys first you might want to research your statements a little better.

What a mess of a statement.

- Who are "they?" HTC techs, developers? Verizon sales, techs? Do you feel that all of those entities have arranged a conspiracy, beginning back before the Eris was released, to sell Incredibles?

- How is "pushing" a new phone going to cease ongoing development of updates for a slightly earlier device?

- Three leaks of the 2.1 update for the Eris have now been exposed, lending more than just passing credence to the notion that an OTA is chomping at the bit and eager to find its way to our phones (those of us with 1.5, for certain, and maybe those with one of the leaks installed).

I apologize up front if I have missed the answer to my question in previous posts......I forgot to copy Sprite Mechanic to my desktop. Is there another way to get my old apps back? Also can't locate my freakin contacts! I've tried syncing etc but can't find them....
Thanks!

All the apps you downloaded should be in my downloads in the market. If you have a sprite backup folder saved on your sd card, they should still be there. The flash doesn't wipe the sd card.

In the case that you do not have a backup saved on the sd card, there are some apps that may not show up in the 2.1 market. In that case, you would have to find the apk file, which is a pretty easy google search.

After seeing the bugs still present in 2.1. I think even when OTA rolls out I'll probably wait a few weeks to see how it runs. Who knows I may never download 2.1 if it doesn't seem the better option. I am one of those who really likes 1.5. I have had a couple people with Motorola Droids want to trade me straight up because they love the UI on the Eris. 1.5 is super snappy for me. I have no dialer lag or lag really in general. I like some features on 2.1 but I hope they can really get it running well before they push it to us.

Well, if it's like any of the previous OTA updates we've had for fixes, you won't have a choice. It will keep prompting you until you update.

I just checked my build number and mine is 2.36.605.1

Correct, there's now a 3rd non-root leak. The 2.36.605.1 leak came out after the previous posts in this thread. The confusion earlier about a "third leak," when there were only 2 non-root leaks in existence, was due to the fact that the original *root* was leaked from HTC, and was therefore technically an additional leak. The 3rd non-root leak, 2.36.605.1, is actually the 4th leaked file.

Updated to 2.36.605.1 yesterday and things seem to be running pretty smoothly.

Caddyman's list of fixed bugs in the 2.1v3 thread won me over... ESPECIALLY the gmail pics fix. Praise Jebus for that, I was getting super sick of that bologna.

Thanks for the tips everyone! The leaks are getting more and more stable it seems.

I have discovered a bug in the keyboard suggestion word list that's irritating me. Anyone else see this? If you have the stock keyboard open to type I have found certain words are listed but when you tap them on the suggestion bar they will not display. For example try "I'm"

Anyone else have this problem or have a way of fixing it?

Thank you! You all are great!

Yes, I had it. I fixed mine by going in and checking the word completion & spell checking for the compact qwerty. Typed the word "I'm", then I went and removed the check from spell check in the settings. Seems to work now.
