Root Eris All things ROOT THREAD: Apps and ROMS Updated 05/06/2010

does anybody live in macon, ga and want to help me, a fellow android lover out by doing this whole thing for me? :p

I cant seem to get any of the sdk to work on my mac or windows machines.

I am having an issue with my rooted Eris. I rooted it as described, straight out of the box, and everything went fine. I then installed the appropriate wifi tether app as described in the How-to's and this is where I encounter my problem. First, no white list box comes up asking for root permissions. The app installs, and when I run it it say that my device does not have root access, thanks for playing. Admittedly this is my first smart phone/root attempt, but this is a straight forward enough process that I don't think I goofed something up. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Download terminal emulator on the market....when u open it type su and hit enter....screen should pop up asking for u to allow access and after u hit allow it will go back to terminal emulator and if u have a # sign then ur rooted :) hope that helps

I have terminal emulator installed and I get # after entering SU. id shows that I have root, however, I have never gotten the permissions screen. Additionally, I don't think I have the # or the Ninja in my apps locker.

Thanks So Much!! I am new to this so when you say flash it over the current rom, I go to recovery after downloading it and then go to flash to zip and choose the download and then reboot?

Email me real quick so ill have Ur email and it will make it a little quicker for me as soon as I get home...and if I get Ur email in time I may be able to do it at lunch for u...just put file on SD card boot into recovery (vol up + pwr) and flash over current ROM...DO NOT WIPE there's no need to :)

ok im mainly doing this for my own use but heres my plan (im open to simpler plans)

1. install amon ras recovery image
Flash recovery image Droid Eris How To [Archive] - xda-developers

2. downgrade to 1.5 stock
Full Downgrade from Droid Eris 2.1 Root (any) to 1.5 Stock | The Android Mobile OS

3. root to good 2.1
GUIDE: From stock 1.5 to the latest root 2.1

4. then go fully on cricket with a rooted eris
Eris FULLY on Cricket (Root Req'd)

5. load mms and web zip file in recovery mode

6. do anycut.apk trick

7. do apn backup and restore trick

8. restart phone just because

9. enjoy life after 2 hrs of doing all this, so ill try this about 8 tonight, ill post the details
if i succeed or not then maybe people could use my steps for help if they have a
different 2.1 root or if they have 1.5 stock, wish me luck

So I've come to the final steps of unrooting. I'm running 1.5, and am trying the final steps involving doing a complete unroot. the first code "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" isn't working. I get the message

"FAILED < remote: not allowed>

Any help on this? I didn't replace any of the files after downgrading to 1.5, so I'm not sure what could be going wrong.

Same problem here...

Keep getting FAILED < remote: not allowed>...

Still have Skateboard boot image...

Any help would be appreciated...

Hey guys,

I'm newly rooted and I'm having trouble with SetCPU. I have tried 2.0.1 and 1.5.4, but neither one will allow me to set my max above 528MHz. When I rooted, I just kept my stock ROM. Can anyone help me bump it up? Can this ROM not handle anything above 528MHz?

Thank you,
PC49:)

PC49, You'll probably. have to flash Zanfur's overclocking patch. Search for a link here on AF or over at XDA. Don't forget to take a Nandroid backup before flashing.

I followed the tutorial for "dummies", so I should have the Nandroid backup, right? That is what it said on the screen during the root process anway...

I forgot about Zanfur's patch. I really appreciate you chasing me around all day and helping me out with this. I've really taken a jump with this phone and even you know that I love it.:)

Yes, you should have taken a Nandroid backup in the "Universal" process. Its always a good idea to take one before flashing anything new or making any significant root- or ROM-related changes to your phone. Only takes a couple of minutes and it could really save your bacon. Cheers!

I am having the same issue here. Rooted my Eris last night without any real issues (KaosLegendary ROM). I started messing with the SetCPU setting and things were fine (got it quite zippy, actually). Then I got a phone call and Sense crashed. I cannot do anything, since it crashes and I force close, and then it crashes again repeatedly until I just turn off the phone... The phone is worthless right now as far as I know.

I should say this is my first post and am definitely a noob (though I have had success tracking and troubleshooting on my own in the past)

SetCPU settings were:
Main: 768/480
Screen off: 480/245
Failsafe: Temp 44.3 C / 480/122

Also, had installed a number of apps (Pandora, Dictionary.com, Epicurious, USA Today... and had some widgets running (weather, clock, news, pandora)

Any ideas would be great!

Alright...one last problem and I should be well on my way to changing ROMs, ect. I went and did my own looking and found Zanfur's overclocking patch (easy enough), but I couldn't find how to flash it. Can anyone explain how I should go about installing the patch? Most importantly, are the steps needed to flash this patch the same steps needed to flash ROMs?

Thank you,
PC49:)

Check-out Nestor's post re. this: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/121660-root-without-rom-yet.html#post1136379

As always, make a Nandroid backup first before flashing anything new.

Yes, you would flash this patch (.zip) file using the custom recovery "Flash zip from sdcard" option just like you would if you are flashing / installing a custom ROM. Good luck.
