Eris discontinued?

They will still offer the Devour though.

Ok, so the Devour (ugly too) becomes the new Droid (still ugly) at the $199 price point and they price the Incredible at $225 after rebate or something. Still makes sense to remove the Eris from the picture. If you want Sense UI you have to buy the Incredible.:D

Acid...
Welcome back from your trip. Off topic here but just wanted to know if any updates on root since the mods shut down the xda thread due to no progress. Any new thread or news?

Thanks :)
I asked a Mods to close the thread, it really got out of hand and wasnt really going anywhere....
A couple of the guys I worked with are still plugging away I think....
And then some newish Devs are doing something else...
Really havent kept up on it., been working on my WinMo ROMS and with another Dev friend of mine compiling a pretty sick 2.1/sense ROM for his Nexus 1....and hopefully me soon :)

If someone was giving me a Moto Droid for free I would rather pay money for the Eris.

You and me both. I had a free upgrade to any Android phone and I chose the Eris. But if you gave me 2 Motos for free I could skip the gym and workout with those dumbells at home.

Not me ... if you gave me 2 Motos for free, I'd sell them on e-bay to some poor sucker who thought he wanted them and buy an Eris or three ...

Actually it would be more like:

Incredible
Droid
Devour

Top to bottom.

Then the N1 and some of the other phones waiting for Verizon will come along too.

Yeah, with 2 for free (no contract) I would sell them and get and Incredible and an Eris or maybe a Devour if I need a weapon.

I would say that it is about time it is discontinued. Newer hardware is available. They will still push out updates on the customer satisfaction spectrum, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get rid of this great looking device that has old specs.

Yes the Incredible is a sick phone but it just the cdma Verision of the N1. Also guys it just a phone I mean I read about people saying that they would kill wild animals if they tried to take their Eris. Personally I would not care if the deer stole my phone n gave me a droid. Two processor, leaked rom, I shore someone can many a sense IU for it. However, I would slap the person who tried to give me the devour. Blur!! Get out of here I don

M guess: Eris goes to $50, Devour at $50-60, Droid down to $100, N1 @$150, Incredible @$200. Quite a lineup, when coupled with the Imagio, TP2, OmniaII, Storm2, Tour, Curve, and Pre and Pixi Plus. They'll probably kill the Omnia, Saga, Blackberry 8703e, Storm, and Curve 8330.

I actually want both. I'll be getting the A855 in April, mainly because it's just "the daddy" Droid. But I have no use for that stupid keyboard at all, and the thing looks like the 2001 monolith. Which... is kinda cool... but not pocket-friendly.

The Eris seems much more friendly, though somewhat lacking in performance. It was chosen by Verizon as an "iPhone-like" device to entice die-hard Appleheads into going Verizon.

If I could get them both for the cost of one plan upgrade, I would love to have them both. But if the HTC had all the bells-and-whistles of the Motorola, I'd choose it without batting an eye.

More and more im leaning incredible.
i was going N1 but scared im not going to get verizon support.
if they offer support for it...yeah im still going incredible.
i need sense UI and with a 1ghz processor i know most of the issues with my eris will be non-existent. and i`ll more than likely will be able to use the live wallpaper!! :)
looks like android 2.2 will be coming soon...curious to whats all in it!
but the incredible with 2.1 and sense..live wallpaper and the red flavor on the buttons (not the back!) im sold!

Verizon Support ?!?!
No No...you will get a Nexus 1 and get "Acidbath5546 ROM's" support :)
Come on now man, us old WinMo Devs gotta stick together :)

And the HTC Incredible has the same hardware as the Nexus 1, the difference is that the Incredible is w/ Sense and the Nexus 1 is google based....
So not the same phone, just the same hardware, different software variations......

I need to learn more about these operating systems on these hand held devices.

You said, "...the Nexus 1 is google based.." What does that mean? Google has its own OS now? I thought the N1's OS was Android. I confess to having a lot to learn about this stuff. :o

No worries man....
It is Android Based....What I was meaning was its just Android based...
Essentially the only difference between the phones is that each maker/company added their personal flavor software to the OS of the phone, while using the same hardware.
Nexus 1 android 2.1 OS & Incredible android 2.1 w/ Sense....
I used the term google, cause I just call android phones without added OS features (such as Sense or Motoblur), Google based....just my own weird language I guess....LOL
Sorry to confuse...

Oh, cool. I really thought I'm missed something about what Google was doing; their logo is on our phones, so I thought the OS might be Google based after I saw your post. Before that I assumed it was just their marketing, etc and the default search engine.

Ohh and there really arent many big phone OS's out there...
Right now there is:
Nokia has Symbian
Iphone has their Evil thing...lol
Google has Android with variations...
Windows has WinMo with variation and upcoming 7 series...
Blackberry has its Blackberry OS
Palm has its WebOS
and some other NOOBS are coming, like Samsung Bada, Nokia Maemo and some others...

Nope...its a goner! No reason to keep it with the devour and droid in the line up. The Eris was/ is popular. Verizon underestimated its appeal at the initial launch. The hardware was old. The software was old. But people still loved it for its form factor and cost. Now that they have the Incredible that has vastly improved hardware and software and all the appeal of the Eris, there is no reason to keep the outdated Eris. It was low man on the totem pole from the beginning, served its purpose as a low cost Android introduction for the VZ masses, and now it is totally expendable, since there are much better alternatives.

I got an Eris because i could not stand the Droid at any cost. If they had had the Incredible at $300 in December, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. If you remove the possibility of getting an Eris, then everybody buys the Incredible over the Droid. A 2.1 Eris just muddies the water.
