Eris discontinued?

OTD said it, I believe it, THAT settles it.

Oh, come on! OTD's biting commentary just sucks! I mean she is a vampire and all. You are going to take a corpse's opinion over a nice juicy rumor? ;)

Disclaimer:

OTD is my hero! I get weak-kneed when i see her. Of course that could just be the blood loss....

the only stock that I give to this nasty rumor is this. I just went the the HTC web page, and the only thing i found that mentioned the eris was the pdf owners manual under the support tab. The phone is not even listed in the product line up.

I wonder what page you viewed, or if you were distracted by something in the room when you went to the HTC website. I just went there and the Eris was the first in their half-page slide show of their products; nice and big, sittin' right there in front with its silly looking default clock and icons.

You're quite welcome; your post up there saying the Eris was not there did cause me to go and look. ;)

I hate to break everyone's heart, but today's Best Buy flyer in Florida has the Eris for FREE with a new two year activation. Last week it was $79.98. Kiss of death?

They're trying to get rid of 'em no doubt. I have mine and I love it.

Yeah, I've seen the free promotions for Eris.

I also see free promotions for various Blackberries and other devices that have not been discontinued.

Next year the Droid will be free, or $19.99 or whatever, and so will the Tour. ;)

Those free promotions have been going on for a while, though ... I bought my Eris over two months ago for almost free, in fact ($9.99).

I work for a Bestbuy. Yes when things go free that usually means the "Kiss of Death" however the blackberry 8530 started on it first day free with a new and upgrade two years.
What do you think of that. However, I do give the eris another year from today.

The sales strategies are meant to get people signed up with a carrier. Often that means selling a device very low or including it in a "buy this, get this other device free" promotion.

The Eris is quite a hit, it seems.

Well, one way or the other, I'm very pleased with the Eris and feel I made a great choice. Most of my friends have the IPhone, it's like carrying a suitcase around. The success of the Eris is due to the fact that it has a compact design and does the job really well.

Not real sure what, if anything, this means for the eris but... I just spoke with a verizon rep yesterday to get a warrenty replacement sent out for my wifes samsung intensity which was having echoing problems on calls. They sent out the replacement but he informed me that she was eligable for the upgrade pricing on smartphones (even though her new every 2 isnt till 5/14/11). I asked what the cost of an Eris would be and he told me $179 with $100 rebate = $79. That's over a year away from what update pricing should be. Sounds like they are really pushing them out in anticipation of the new ones. I will probably just get her to use the new one and use the upgrade myself to try out the incredible or n1 depending on how this whole root/rollback/leaked 2.1 eris thing pans out. Eris is fine with me and will probably be what I stick with as long as we can work out this root issue and get some trim, fit, rom's to run on it. No point in chasing the upgrade... you'll always lose that race but nice to know there is options.;)

It's a sure thing the Eris won't be around when I upgrade in 2 years, but I do hope that its popularity will influence it's replacement. For me, price is not a deciding factor - performance and form-factor are. Not sure if the Incredible is small enough for my pocket. I'll have to go check one out.

I fear that after the popularity of the Moto Droid we are going to start seeing devices with bigger and bigger screens. I can easily see people thinking that a 3.2" screen is just too small. 3.5", 3.7" and 4"+ will probably be the norm for many of these phones in the future. I'm not looking forward to the 7" screened 6 pound monsters they will be selling in a few years.

I'm happy with my Eris because it was free (NE2 + BOGO = mine and my wife's were both free).

I knew that better phones would be coming along a few months later, but I'm happy knowing that a) mine was cheaper, and b) those still don't have LTE, which will hopefully be the norm when I get my next new phone in August 2011.

There's always a better phone on the horizon. By getting the free phone, I can avoid some of the jealousy because hey, mine was free.

That is one of the main things that I was thinking about too. I have an upgrade sitting and waiting on one of my lines right now. I have no intention of using it until LTE is widespread.

I've gotten the sense, though, that's going to be a year or more before Verizon starts offering LTE-enabled phones.

That is possible, but as long as my Eris works I'll be doing fine. It will have to be a REALLY impressive phone to make me upgrade before LTE phones hit the market.

Okay, after playing with the A855 some more I've decided that I don't want it. The Eris is what I want after all. I won't be spending buku bucks on the Incredible (stupid name) as my first smartphone, and all-touchscreen at that. Getting the Eris on Easter. Will it still be there? Or will it just be cheaper? OR FREE?

Now the question is: does anyone make an Eris-specific windshield mount, in case they ever do actually upgrade to 2.1 OTA? Those clamping mounts suck.

Verizon discontinued the pearl flip as of April 1st and it is under a year at verizon so the rumor could be true.

That was one of the devices Verizon "inherited" from Alltel when they took over. It was with Alltel for quite some time; I had mine in 2008.

Guys I have almost very good conformation that the eris and hero both are going to be discontinued in the next 6 month. I saw this on my end of life report. Howvever it could also mean that the warhouse does not have any more in stock.
Crossing fingers
