Eris on Cricket Wireless

Your right I didn't flash it I had to reprogram the phone to use Crickets settings flashing the phone won't happen until we get root and then it will be so much easier.

So I grabbed a new phone from Verizon, and without even activating it, I'm going to put it on Cricket. Got into ##778.

I'm attempting this right now. The Cricket guy gave me a 4 digit MSID, and a 10 digit MIN.

The trouble is, in the PST settings, I have MIN1 and MIN2. I'm going to assume MIN1?

I haven't activated this on Verizon, and wasn't going to. I wonder if this fills in some of the PST settings that I need, though, when I do.

So *228 fails. It gets to the Programming Phone part, and never gets to SPL Unlock.

Is that what you used qpst tools for? Changing the SPL Unlock code to 000000 ?

Did you update your PRL file? You have to have the Correct PRL file for *228 to work. And it has to be for the market you are in. I can help you look for it if you want.

The unlock code should be 000000 by default. I didn't use any tools to program it.

I've tried 38515, 38003, and 38140. She has roaming on her plan, in which case it says to use the 5-digit one. We tried 1050 first, not realizing this, but that one failed.

It calls and talks to the guy, and says to wait while your phone is programmed... but it never gets to SPL Unlocked OK.... It never gets past "Programming phone". Could this make it the wrong PRL?

Or would it not even try to program without the right PRL?

And I'm in Buffalo, NY. I found a site here

Corolada PRL Page

and I've tried all of the 5 digit PRL's there. They all successfully get me to *228, but don't get any further than the guy saying that he's sorry that he can't program my phone, and that I'll have to go into a cricket store. It never gets past that second listed step saying that its programming in progress.

38199.prl looks like what I need. According to the old phone.

Try it!.....going to work out for an hour but will have my phone with me and will check for updates, sounds like your getting close.

I just thought of this. You are putting the file on the sd card then selecting update PRL in the programming correct?

No, I don't have, and can't find the file.

The old phone reports that it's using PRL 38199 though. So I'm hunting for 38199.prl! Others are also hunting for it, on the cricket forums, it seems!

39599.prl is the newer one, apparently.

And after a *228, 39699.prl is what shows.

I'm going to try the tools I used to use for my LG to extract it.

Can't find that one either.
------

LG tools = fail. This is a Samsung phone I'm trying to get the .prl off of. Hmm..

QPST Config tools seem neat, but I can't figure out how to get the USB driver to work to extract the .prl.

Should I put in the MDN (phone number) before *228?

I'm also going to Home SID/Home NID, and putting in 5361 for the Home SID (Since the Cricket guy gave me that as the 'SID'. Should I leave this at 2004 (as Verizon has it) before I *228?

You could try it.....it won't hurt. I mean if you have all the correct programming numbers and a working PRL you may not have to do *228. I have put phones on Cricket with out doing *228, but it helps to have the correct PRL. Which I am searching now for ya....hopefully I will find it. If I find it then programming (*228) wont be needed. (by the way I used to work for corp here in SD for LEAP.) I used to do all the phone application testing....lol about 5 years ago.

LOL I told you I was looking!

*228 just gets nowhere. I'm making sure the old phone is turned off. The programming music goes on for about 2 seconds, then is gone. It doesn't even say SPL Unlocked! or get into any of that. Trying with ALL PST settings put in.

Last time I did that, I went to *228 a second time, and somehow, with ALL cricket settings in, it called VERIZON activation! Go figure!

Well with all the cricket settings and maybe try a generic cricket PRL, you may be in luck. The other thing you could do is look around your local area for a Cricket Reseller that flashes phones...(other phones) and see if they can get you the PRL file.

Yeah none of the local crickets do it. They send phones that need to be flashed, away.

Perhaps the Cricket customer service guy will e-mail it to me?

I'd extract it from the phone if her old phone would just show up in Device Manager as one that I can set to COMX, but it's just showing up as a flash memory storage device. Lame.

I try to make calls without *228 on a generic one and get nothing useful. It's a pain. I'm gonna try cust service tomorrow to see if they can help.

what you need to look for is a cricket reseller...not a corporate store.

I'm a bit taken by *228 not working. Perhaps I should call Cricket and give them the MEID that's going on that number, and then try again?

All I did was ask for my #'s and tell them I was going to *228, and they wished me luck.

*228 just literally does nothing, which I find strange. usually it will tell me a reason activation failed. It just tells me to go to a store to get it activated if I have Nationwide Roaming (which she does).

There are others in Buffalo who have used PRL 1042 to *228 without a problem.

Did you tell them your MEID first? Should I do this, and then maybe I would find success in activating?

I know this will sound strange but, I could send you my PRL and see if it will work, I have heard that any Cricket PRL should work in any market. Send me your email or MSN ID (private Message) and I will email or send my PRL to you. Worth a shot!

Why do you need *228 to work? It doesnt work on my phone and everything works, -mms

Because I don't have the local PRL! If I could get a local Cricket PRL, that would work, I'm sure. The local resellers all send the phone away to Albany. I just called 3. They dont' do stuff in house. Lame. So I'll have to keep calling around for a .prl until I find one?

I get just enough reception to do *228.

*228 should work anyway. I just tried to *228 it on Verizon on my number just to activate it to see if it will, and it didn't work. I had to call Verizon. There was a lock on the ESN. (Because there was pending activation on one of my lines). Got it cleared, and activated it on MY verizon number for the moment. Maybe the ESN is available now? Going to try to get it on Cricket again and see how it works?

I tried to tell Cricket the ESN I was putting on their network, and they didn't want that information. Do they have to record the MEID/ESN for the phone to work without *228?

Ya cricket doesnt care about the phones esn # or if its good or bad like most other phone carriers
