Are you using an app killer which you shouldnt. If you kill the program it wont pull.

Use the stock gmail app for your gmail account; that will definitely push. I don't really use the other mail app, but I have played with it, and I believe that it will only push if you set up exchange syncing with it. Otherwise, the mail is set to poll.

Does anyone know how to reset the text prediction, a few words were saved that were typos and i wanted to get rid of them. anyone know how to fix it?

Is there any way to make the trackball light up like the call, end/power, and Home/Menu/Back/Search buttons do?

To address the original question, though, is there a way to force the phone data service to use a 1x or an EVDO signal? We spend the summers on the coast of Oregon where there is a strong 1x signal and a weak but reliable EVDO signal. With my Verizon data card I can get in to hidden menus and force it to EVDO. That speeds up my service enormously--from a max of 144 kbps to an average of around 1 Mbps. I would like to be able to do the same with the Eris.
The answer to my question was posted today here: http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/42523-3g-drops-1x.html#post327111

Thanks, Sundedo!

I did all the above and it did not ask me if I wanted to make handcent my default. Does anyone know why or can I set it to default in the settings somewhere?

as a long time bb user there are some things that may be obvious for the seasoned android user but not for me...

like when i was researching the battery drain issue with the native sms app they say to reboot your phone. "reboot" to me as a bb user is a battery pull but i think holding the end call button and pressing power off is actually a android reboot, no battery pull required.

may as well add this here too....i had a hard time finding clear instructions on this previously so it wont hurt

if you have horrendous battery life it may be because your native sms app is preventing your phone from sleeping.

to check go to settings>about phone>status and at the bottom wake time. if it is 100% you more then likely have this bug

to fix it go into your messages app, menu>setting> and turn off notifications.

go to the android market and download handcent sms or chomp sms, and install. then pick a contact and press send sms, pick your new sms app as default, and send any message. then do a reboot.

once that is all done, power on your phone, let is sleep for a minute after reboot and go back to settings>about phone>status and at the bottom wake time. if it is around 50% or so the fix has worked and you should be able to charge faster and hold a charge longer.

settings>apps>manager apps

find stock messages app

click it

clear defaults

go to a contact and hit send text

pick default, and handcent.

First of all, thank you caddyman. I went to the stock message app and the default button is greyed out. Then went to the handcent default button and it is greyed out as well. Any other ideas

uninstall, and reinstall handcent. go to the people app and send a text to a person, see if it asks you.

Thanks bud it worked like a champ. Any idea how to make the whole picture I choose to fit inside the home screen. I have pictures and it cuts the sides off of the picture.

Not sure if this has been posted yet; I did a search but couldn't find anything.

A quick way to get your browser history in using the stock browser is to long press the back button. If using Steel, long press the back button will exit the application.

I found this with my first eris then it took forever for me to find it with my new. (Kept freezing up on me) Anyway. In handcent in the settings menu there is an option called "Send sms shortcut key" I have mine setup so when I hit the Enter/Return arrow instead of adding a line it just send the text. very helpful for me and takes out a couple steps. Plus its easier for me to reach that button than to close keyboard on other side of screen. (maybe I have short thumbs, but that left side of the screen is hard to reach for me)

This is absoultely awesome; however if you are using Swype it wont work :(

Does anyone know how to clear your google searches in google maps? Looked around and couldn't find anything. Thanks.
Great site by the way, have got a ton of good tips and info here.

Is there a trick, program, or widget needed to watch video saved to the SD card?

Try downloading ASTRO File manager or AndExplorer from the market, this helps me get to anything I've saved on my Sd card (movies, apps, pics,etc..). Find the file you would like to play and click on it and it should ask you what app you would like to use to watch the file, depending on what format.. I use mVideoPlayer, you can get this from the market as well.. Hope this helps!
