Eris Tips and Tricks

I apologize if i am bringing up a previously discussed issue, but im having problems with brightness settings. I go to the settings menu, change the brightness level (auto backlight is disabled), and it either goes back to full brightness when I leave the menu, or when i wake it up after the next time it sleeps. I also use quicksettings and it doesnt work either...any advice?

Can you execute a wait on the phone with access to the dial pad? If so, how? I need to have access to a dial pad while doing so but as far as I can tell the dial pad gets dimmed out.

Thanks

Move your phone significantly, and usually the screen comes back on. The point is that if a call is made, you usually put the phone RIGHT to your ear, so the screen goes off so that your ear doesn't push buttons (because the capacitive touch will do that!)

I just shake my phone a little bit, pull up the keypad, and make sure I push a button every 3 seconds or so, and it stays lit.

I just wanted to add to the tip outlined here. If you want this feature to successfully launch from the notification window to auto-dial your voicemail and auto-enter your password do it this way....

From the Main screen....

  • Menu
  • Settings
  • Call Settings
  • Voicemail

And then modify the call number to suit your carrier. For me...

*86ppxxxx

(xxxx)
represents my password.

The # sign and number 1 after my password are unnecessary with my carrier. If you usually have to press your password then #1 it should look like this...

*86ppxxxxpp1

Hope that helps.

on verizon you need to input your pass and press pound, then press 1 to go to the VM

what carrier are you with?

no i dont think i do, but that code i think is kinda universal, this trick ha been around for MANY moons with different variations and i think SOME carriers need 2 p's for an extra pause or something.

either way works for verizon though

I am also with Verizon. I do not need to input the pound key or the number one. The method and code I posted allow me to simply open my notifications window and select VM. It dials, enters my password and opens my 1st VM message.

Guess it must vary based on locale.

no it is the same, it tells you to press pound but you dont have too...just takes a few extra seconds for it to recognize it.

Sorry to disagree. :)

Mine does not prompt you to enter the pound sign or any numbers aside from your password. There is not a pause either.

"Please enter your password"

"You have 3 new voice messages"

Then it immediate proceeds to...

"First new voice message...."

.....and so on

Interesting huh?

Must vary by locale.

on verizon, are there not 2 levels of voice mail packages? the free one that comes with the plan and an upgrade version which gives you longer storage periods? i think the free one gives you 21 days of strorage only...could this have anything to do with it?

hey caddyman - have you noticed your HTC clock widget has a lag? it has caught me a couple times showing me an old time! then refreshes quickly if you catch it.

it seems as though you actually have to go to a screen for all widgets to refresh, they do not refresh "behind the scenes" so to speak.

for instance, the clock, go to a homescreen where your clock is not, keep your phone awake on that screen for a minute or 2, then swipe to your clock screen, you will see it flip.

agreed. sometimes, if you wake your phone up and unlock it, quickly look at time widget - for a half second it will show the time that the phone was last "awake" then it updates and "flips" to current time. if you do not wait the half second - it will really mess with your mind! has gotten me several times now!

I've also learned that there is a right way and a wrong way to exit an application. I almost always hit the home button to get back to the home screen. This actually is wrong and I'm working to change my habits. The "correct" way is to use the back button. The OS apparently forces some cleanup when you hit the back button that it doesn't if you hit home. I've noticed my phone uses less memory when I use the back button. I wonder if those having serious lag issues are doing what I do and hit the home button as well?

first of all, thanks for all the great tips, my question is why can i not watch all of the youtube videos, or even most of them? is there an app for allowing different formats? thanks in advance.

HTC can't get anything right, so they screwed that up..rest assured it'll be fixed in the next update. However, expect your radio not to work this time.

thanks, has any one had trouble getting more than one custom ring tone or custom notification tone to load in the selection menue?
