I know I want the OS upgrade, but that is just my personal opinion.

Personally, there have been enough credible reports that it is happening, and it is 2.1, that I think we can stop wondering "if," and just continue to freak out about "when."
In fact, PC World seems to suggest that the Eris is going to get 2.1 before the Droid: "HTC CEO Peter Chou says Android 2.1 will soon come to its Droid Eris phone. And the Android 2.1 OS will eventually come to the Motorola Droid too, but it's not clear if it will be weeks, or months, before that update happens."
Further, while it's obviously a different carrier, the Hero has been confirmed by Sprint to be receiving 2.1. The Hero is the exact same phone inside the case as ours, so why would we be receiving anything else?
I think a lot of you are looking at this the wrong way; don't think that we might not get the update because it doesn't make sense for verizon or google to "give" us a new OS, just because our phone is cheaper than the N1.
That wouldn't make any sense for anybody: they'll want to keep every device as current as the device can handle. The more devices they have on a single version of the OS (or at least, a small number of closely-related versions), the better it is for everybody. It's not like they're losing money by giving us a new OS: they're making life easier for themselves (or rather: the poor bastards constantly writing bug fixes and patches) by decreasing the number of users they have on old OSs. Further, the more users they have on the most current OS, the easier it is for developers to reach the widest audience with the most reliable product, which makes the market better, etc.
So, relax... we're all getting 2.1! It will happen! And possibly sooner than we think! Now all we have to worry about is that they finally fixed their godawful phone/dialer interface in the new version.
What do you guys want more, an OS upgrade or this thing to be rooted finally?

verzizon guy that sold me the phone said 2.1 was june or maybe he meant 2.0
When I bought my phone on December 23, the sales tech said they were going to upgrade it to 2.0. A week ago my son in law said he read an announcement from Verizon that the update being pushed in the 1st Qtr of 2010 would be V2.1. Now all we can do is sit and wait. All of this speculating, wishing, hoping, dreaming, etc. is kind of wasted energy.
When I was drafted we had a guy in our unit that was a total loser in every aspect. One day he came up with this pearl of wisdom which we all laughed at endlessly. It went like this, "If you get orders for Vietnam you'll go to Vietnam - if you don't then you won't go to Vietnam". It was a painfully obvious statement, but as stupid as it sounded when he said it, it was as truthful as anything could possibly be. We called all further overly obvious possibilities the "Marinelli Theory", named after ole Captain Obvious, Private Marinelli.
So now folks an official announcement of the painfully obvious. If we get Version 2.0 we get Version 2.0. If we get Version 2.1 then we get Version 2.1. And one more for good measure. If we get this upgrade then we'll have the upgrade. If we don't then we won't.
Thank You Marinelli.
Now everybody back to work. Quit wasting energy on something you can't change or effect.
(And I can't wait for 2.x!)Anyway, all of this pushed to the side I want a commitment in this thing. Why can't anyone tell us an exact date and which version we'll get?

We keep checking back in hopes of getting am exact date..
Anticipating upgrades, new accessories, exciting apps, etc., etc. is part of the pleasure of technology IMHO... tossing around hypothetical dates, rumors and "hot tips" from some guy who works for...... (fill in the blank) has been the life's blood of forums and the old bulletin boards before them forever. I love this stuff... foolish, time-wasting and useless as it all may be!(And I can't wait for 2.x!)
I don't know why some people think they are better than others because they think they just don't sit around waiting for a update.Apparently, that's a sin on this board. I was in another thread and people said they had better things to do like work, family, etc. and some felt "sorry" for me for not having either of those at 20 and as a student. I feel kinda blessed, but then again, knocking some girl up at 16, and in jail by 20 seems to be a trend in the past few years. But I never was one to catch on to fads.
But I agree 100%, that that's how I feel about my phone.
Random tidbit: 3.0 is starting to rumble around in the Android news world, and it seems like it won't be named "Flan" like a lot of sites were speculating, but "Froyo" (short for frozen-yogurt) instead.
)I'm 21, married, two dogs, and a house of my own. I am currently at work right now, but it is little slow in the IT department of Sundays.I don't know why some people think they are better than others because they think they just don't sit around waiting for a update.
Well neither do most of us, but that doesn't mean we don't visit this board when we have spare time. What is so wrong with that? I have a life, but I still like to visit this board. I admit I don't visit the board as much after work, but if I do does that mean I am crazy? No I think not, I am very active and like to think I can multitask.
The one-uppers... eh.
