Eris to v2.x, when?

I'll be breaking my smartphone cherry with an Eris probably next week. Forgive any noob questions I might have here, but one thing I was wondering is when I get my new phone, will it automatically seek any updates that are available for it? I'm assuming that I'll probably get a phone that was manufactured prior to many of the updates that you all mentioned here.

Yes, the updates will show up automatically and pretty much right away.

There is a REAL update scheduled for today just like the one on 12/11. It is just a bug fix though according to the Verizon documents posted back in November. I have no idea why everyone thought it was going to be an OS upgrade. Enough people said that it wasn't.

I recieved my Eris the end of december and with in 5 minutes of turning
it on it recieved a OS update so the answer to your question is YES!
 
Anyone know when today the update is supposed to hit? And if it doesn't, does that mean we would have to wait until next Friday or could it come sometime anyday? For the record I'm not expecting it to be 2.1 :)

If they actually do send out an update today, you should get it..................right.................about...................NOW!!!

LOl I know you didn't, but how freaked out would you have been if the notification came through right then?


Seriously though it could be at any time.

Haha right when I read it I got a text message so I was like Wtf
 
I got an email from HTC saying if you put the phone between your legs while transferring about 6 GB of data as you walk through a metal detector at O'Hare Airport on a flight to Washington DC with a towel tied around your head like so:

If you do this, your update should reach around 1 AM on February 12th, since Guantanamo Bay is in Eastern time.

Question: My wife is entitled to a 22% discount through her work. How do you get the discount if you buy the phone through another vendor? I thought I might have to go through a verizon store.

So, no one got an update right? Everyone has pretty much agreed with Feb 12th is the day for 2.0?
 
Just to be safe, just clear all dates from your head. Until there is an actual report of a new update and a date, don't believe anything on this board, especially me.

I would suggest you get your Google Readers out and subscribe to RSS news feeds from your favorite Android sites. If you need sites, let me know. That's where I'm going for info. now.
 
All: Unless you work for HTC (or possibly Verizon) you are just guessing as to when the update will happen. It obviously hasn't happened to our phones yet, so let's please just get back to enjoying them in their current state. Then when the update does happen, we can all start about a dozen threads on when the next version (2.2 or 3.0 or ??) will happen and how much better that one will be!
 
Smacky has the right idea. February 12th is just a guess based on the info available. THe more info we get the better our guesses can be.
