Eris to v2.x, when?

That article said that most (if not all) are on schedule to get their update to 2.1 in Q2! Are we still scheduled for Q1?

Also, if all Android phones are to be updated to 2.1, do you suppose that means we'll be upgraded to future versions as they roll out?

Afaik, we're still on for Q1. Htc and Verizon haven't said otherwise and I for one can't believe it until they say it. As for future updates, we will get bug fixes for this one then who knows. I think it re sd said somewhere that we would get them for the life cycle pf the phone but I'm not sure what that is. Future updates will depend on the hardware specs that google puts out for the OS and if our phones can handle it. If you read the comments in that article, they say further down that the G1 will not get the update because it can't handle the larger OS very well. So I'm not putting much faith in that article, especially since they don't list any sources for their information and some of it contradicts what has been said officially (like that we will get the update in Q1). Just my thoughts.

But then it goes on to say that the speculation that G1 wouldn't get it was incorrect and that ALL Android phones will get the 2.1 update.

Aha. I must have missed that comment. Still, I don't trust an article without sources, and we know that we're getting 2.1 so that's all that matters, right? ;) I still think we will see it in Q1, since neither HTC nor Verizon have said otherwise. Sprint is set for Q2 I think so maybe they mean all will have it BY Q2? :)

Probably.

The wait for the update is fine. But I wonder if any other phone has gone this long without a root.

I'm with you on wanting root. HTC did a good job of sealing this one up but I bet there is some teen kid out there who can root this thing in about 5 minutes. Eris just doesn't have the worldwide fame of an iPhone.

I'm thankful to those who are trying because that's more than I can say.

If only! lol That would definitely make the Eris the $hit all the way around. Who knows, I bet soon enough they will be making phones with built-in personal safety equipment, i.e. pepper spray, a knife, nauseating light, or small caliber projectile like a dart. Get back man, or my phone will kick your @ss! lol

Don't taze with your Eris man, Don't taze me!

This must be the guy that showed up on OTD's doorstep!

At least he's pale! :p
