Eris to v2.x, when?

So many multiple posts of the same thing...its going to be like a desert when it actually comes out.

Yeah. We know where your mind is! ;)

One more month, people, one more month :o

Lets all hope and pray! I just hope that Verizon does not have a press release march 31st saying that the 2.1 update is taking longer than expected and should be ready by the end of Q2.

That would be my luck!

sorry guys next time I'll buy an iPhone and we can watch Apple finally fail at something

I bet an official press conference doesn't happen if they don't make q1...you'll just watch it come and go with the realization that Q1 update didn't happen.

Just another "Verizon told me..." story.

I was at Ontario Mills last night and was passing by the Verizon store so I decided to waste 5 minutes of my life by asking if they knew anything about the Eris update. Talked to a chick who had no idea, but went to ask the manager who was behind her and I heard him tell her that it was due out soon (couldn't exactly make out that part) but that it had been pushed back "again"... Hmmmmmm. He also told her it should be out next month and all the obvious stuff like it'll come ota by itself, bla bla bla.

So once again, another story to be taken with a grain of salt. I personally like hearing little things like this because even though it doesn't tell me much of anything, it keeps me anxious. :)

I've noticed the people at the Colonies VZW know a bit more. That being said, you are from the same relatively small, and infinitely boring town. =P

Well, build failure or what ever reason they have not yet OTAed it to us yet, good on them for catching it on the way out the door.

Maybe they can come up with a way to release the failed versions to the "2.1" thread starters in here.

It was an issue with the OTA push. Those that didn't update via OTA have been fine. Once they figure out those issues, I'm sure they'll start rolling it out.

They should give us the option to downlaod the update via our computers and when they fix the OTA push the rest can receive the update.

I agree with this, as a few other phones out there need to be manually updated, period.

Thus those who want it can go out of their way for it, and those indifferent to it can wait until the OTA issue is rectified.

That would just increase VZW's support costs and issues, and ultimately the development time. They'd have to test two separate upgrade delivery methods instead of one, have to create a website and instructions for a downloadable upgrade ... and then prep their retail stores to deal with all the people who'd attempt the manual upgrade and crash their phones as a result. It'd be a real headache, just to keep a few early adopters happy -- and those are the people who are generally never happy anyway!

Maybe what Verizon ought to do instead, is identify all of its customers who hang out on forums such as this ... and then ship each of us a prescription for Valium and a couple of good books to read. Everyone would be much more content, and there'd be no more pressure to release the update before it was ready. :D

lol, I've gone up there too, just not for a while. It's hard to find anybody knowledgeable about these things, other than you cool people on this forum. :D I dont get how reps at verizon keep their jobs when they cant answer the simplest of questions; and I'm not talking about "when is 2.1 coming?" questions, I mean everyday, real life cell phone questions. Meh, I can only hope that some of you guys/gals work at verizon and keep it real.

Here's an interesting quote recently posted on another forum:
Hello All,

Spoke to a friend of mine at htc last night and pressured for some information. He said htc and verizon both are working on the release together. The software itself did not fail testing. Patches is correct that it failed just was not the software. Seems to be verizon is having technical difficulties uploading it to the server that transmits the ota updates. When they uploaded 2.1 to the server the server only recieved bits and pieces of the new software hence the reason it bricked a few phone and some phones worked flawlessly. The testing at htc and also on verizon droid eris that were updated via computer to the phone was flawless in testing and passed the trouble is not software but again they are experiencing trouble uploading the software to the server for ota. My friend at HTC has assured me that the software should be released within next 14 days.

Hope this helps everyone.

Take it for what it's worth.

I'm trying to do the math here for ditching this POS and getting a Nexus. If you're not getting a new plan, the N1 should be $500-some. Sell the Eris for $350, and pay $150 as if it were available on a two-year plan and get it.

March 23rd. Mark the date. The day we'll have 2.1...on a Nexus One.

That's the same article that's been floating around and has been posted here several times.

The software is pretty much ready. It's just an OTA problem...

With that said, I think it will still be out before the end of March.

I must've missed that one. I'm hoping to wake up one morning to the little green 'droids on my phone.

DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP-I think VZW is waiting until my birthday March 22-until they update to 2.1......Sorry to everyone because we have to wait until then..
