Eris to v2.x, when?

Thanks for the elaboration, smacky! It helps us relate to you a bit better when we understand where you're coming from rather than just ranting out of the blue.

The moto Droid still doesn't have 2.1 does it?

Smacky...I understand your frustration. If I had it to do over again, I'd have the moto droid.

It has 2.0. It's relatively up-to-date. We don't even have 1.6. Why? Screw 2.0. Screw 2.1. What percentage of the apps are we not getting because they're 1.6 and above? 2.0 and above? Screw percentage of apps, lets just say the top-notch apps you read about on blogs that you can't get.

At the end of the day, I knew it had 1.5 and I still bought it, so I guess I'm not entitled to anything, but the keyboard lag and battery life? I think I'm entitled to not have a POS phone. My mistake. We learn from these kinds of experiences. The Droid has Quake running on it. Not that I want Quake, but if you did, you had the ability to get it and enjoy it. Did you read about Sense on the Droid? If you wanted Sense, in a short while, you'd be able to have a stable ROM on the Droid. But who would want it?

@smacky

I also regret getting the Droid Eris. I really want the Nexus One, it is just what I wanted in my Droid Eris. Faster, bigger screen, and a camera flash! I just don't have the money and time to get the Nexus One. Even if I sell my Droid Eris for about $250, I don't have that kind of money to pay the rest for the Nexus One.

I have learned to appreciate all the gadgets I get. When I got my first Mac for my birthday, I was so happy. After reading the Macforums, I wished I never got that specific model Mac Mini. I wanted something faster! Also, I regretted purchasing my monitor. I don't know why this has happened to me, not be thankful for all these wonderful gifts I had received. My HTC Droid Eris was also gift. Seriously, reading forums makes me feel that all my gadgets are worthless because someone else has something better.

Now, I appreciate and am thankful for all these gifts I have received. I will try to get the most out of my gadgets. When the time comes, in about 2-3 years, that's when I'll upgrade my gadgets. I see no reason to spend time and money upgrading to new gadgets in a time span of 3 months. We're in a recession!

Just my $200000000. lol.

I guess I got so caught up in typing up that essay, I forgot to mention that the Snapdragon processor was also well-known when I got my phone late-November. My friends ACTUALLY told me to wait it out longer for the VZW phone with that 1.1ghz processor. After I bought my phone and up until the day the N1 was announced, I was happy, thinking I would be ok. Then the N1 was on T-Mobile and the processor was revealed and I was a bit shocked, but I assuaged myself by saying it wasn't on a phone on VZW and I would never have switched to TMo anyways.

Then, the March 23rd date comes out (it is now confirmed, the Nexus One will be here March 23rd on VZW) and I immediately pissed it to the trees.

I dunno, though, how life would have been had I waited even longer. The smartphone has changed my life, all quirks aside, and I really enjoy it. I would have gone another two or three months not knowing if the N1 was coming to VZW or not. Some people would have been patient and waited, but I know I would have been anxious, more so than I was waiting for root and 2.1. Plus, I would have gone 2.5 years without an upgrade. Woulda felt bad.

Still, I just saw the silver lining, and I think I can wait a bit longer. Found Better Keyboard and OpenHome for free so... :D

PM me if you want details.

I think I'm going to have to unsubscribe this thread because of all this grammer/usage bullshit. Isn't this a phone forum?

Maybe this thread should be locked and a new one started that's about taking Eris to 2.1

edit: sorry to add to the noise, but my inbox is filled with this stuff

Thanks for the clarification. Next maybe you could break down the difference between asshat and douchebag. Of course when I say asshat I mean Verizon, and when I say douchebag I mean HTC. But you knew that already.

OK, then.

I am brand new to the droid family, like a week. I love my Droid Eris. However, the phones that are expected to be released around the 26 of March, still fall within my 30 days exchanged period. This includes the new Motorola phone and the N1. I may exchange it for one of the new releases assuming there is not a big price difference. Sad thing is, the new Motorola phone only comes with 1.6, which is kinda sad....

The update wasn't leaked. It was released to testers. The testers that got the update OTA had it fail on them. Those that did the update tethered to their PC with a USB cable had it install just fine and have seen no issues of note.

The reason the update is delayed now is due to Verizon trying to figure out why the OTA upgrade is failing.

Also, see the normal reasons - like the Eris having 2.1 before the Nexus One.

Look to dates that Verizon has been telling random customers, "March 21" and "March 23".

That's if OTA is gonna work.

Spread solid logical delay reasons here. We will butter this bread until it's soggy.

BS. They should at least let us update through tethering if it works while they try and figure out the OTA issue.

This is my honest opinion about a future update to our beloved eris. If they are planning to release the nexus one or any of the newer htc phones to verizon why would they release an update on the heel of the release of such phones which will garner much more profit than the eris or the droid. I figure verizon has attended at&t and iphone one on one on how to dupe loyal customers i am almost convinced this is a sick marketing scheme its sad if we did not spend our money these companies would not exisit and this is how they treat there customers. I left at&t for this very reason and it appears i have made another mistake. And why is that all the new great phone are always released overseas first. I also inquired on the update with verizon who had no clue and htc stated it was rolling out but the gentleman seemed to be laughing like yeah right dummy. I only did it for general purposes out of pure curiosity when this OTA update and video scheme started i find so interesting how that happened and we received no more info on it i strongly figure a mistake was made and they quietly cleaned it up. I think they want usto get fed up pay the re stocking fee and pay the non contract price for the new hotness.

HTC is having difficulties uploading 2.1 w/ Sense to the Severs
As the first post stated Verizon isn't sure why its happening but it is

The testers who got the OTA are having one of three outcomes
1. Basically perfect like NKT's
2. Complete BRICK of the phone
3. Bits and Pieces of the OTA that aren't the full OS and just mess up the phone till a FR is implemented..

This isn't anyone's fault and no HTC, Google and VZW are not conspiring against Eris users. The Verizon servers aren't accepting 2.1 + Sense for some reason. When the update is pushed it will be OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED

I'm confused about the post above me about At & t and the iphone duping loyal customers(i dont have an iphone so im not a fangirl) and how verizon is like them...

Whenever a new iphone came out...either the same time or shortly after they would release the same software for the older iphones so how did At & t & apple dupe their cusomers and how is this any relation to verizon?

@startnew.jdr

If you can afford it I would defiantly trade in for the n1. What you are seeing here from a few, and certainly myself includes, is not the lack of appreciation of the current smart phone that I have, but more the unmitigated frustration from the bag of crap I am being shoveled by Verizon and htc regarding the Eris and its updates. I don't care so much about 2.0 or 2.1, my phone works great, aside from the definite lag under heavy use. Its the fact that there is NO straight talk from Verizon or, and most importantly for me, HTC. This phone has been hanging in the wind with no true info updates on the progress of 2.0/2.1. I feel as if HTC is playing ball with Verizon just like phone manufactures in the past have done to guide the cattle to the phones they want to dump just before the next great thing comes out. That is business and nothing I can do about it, BUT its one thing to play ball with Verizon and team up to jerk the cattle but I dont know if the Nexus Google guys will play ball with Verizon. Google seems to be on their own program with their "own" phone, getting updates out sooner, selling hardware cheaper and direct, and "allowing" the phone to be rooted. I thought for sure that this was THE phone for me and, although I do love it, I don't love HTC's support of it nor do I love the lack of support for prior HTC models I have heard about. It is certainly not the hardware that I have a problem with though. The phone is more than capable, and if we could freakin root the thing (and by we I mean many amazing devs much smarter than me) it would truly kick a** in no time flat. Long and short is if you can trade up for the n1 then you should in my opinion but then there is always the chance the n1 on Verizon wont get the updates when the n1 on t-mobile will because Google will have to play ball with big red there too. Time will tell but at least it is rooted so you will have the world at your fingertips as far as updates go with a bit of tech skills and some good walk throughs. Sorry had to vent a bit. I have pretty much pulled back and watched these last few weeks because my habit of checking the forums for signs that HTC gave a crap about the Eris several times daily was getting annoying, but just wanted to give my op on the possibility of trading up.
