Eris to v2.x, when?

It seems this thread has gotten a little off course. (OH REALLY-Here's your sign!) I know we stray from kitten killing to clowns to hot tubs and vampires; but now we are talking about the N1 vs the Eris which-well is this really a fair comparison? Are we talking about a single shot muzzle loader compared to an automatic sub-machine gun? I'm not sure because I haven't done my research on the N1 yet, I am going to wait for the 2.1 and see if I like it, I'm going to be patient, watch the sun rise and set, and yes, watch the frackin snow melt and see how 2.1 works; My phone is the primary which means I can trade yearly if I want so it is matter of waiting every 12 months-I do; however, have a legitimate issue and one I have mentioned. I was told by my VZW customer service rep. when I got my Eris, that there would be a fix for the blue tooth issue and now they're telling me to go buy a wire ear piece. I spent good money on my blue tooth in November; I purchased a good one for about 100$ and now they want me to buy something new? I am deciding if I should press the issue for another phone or just let it go...I want others feedback please. Thanks all.

No insult intended. I agree that sometimes things get rolled out when a better alternative may have existed. But there are many factors we are not aware of. Who is to say that when they were in the design phase they did not discover the use of a different chip architecture would cause a rework of other subsystems and therefore be cost prohibitive. I've been dealing with these devices since Palm was king and they weren't phones at all.

My point was that we shouldn't let ourselves get so worked up over this. If I did what the little demon on my shoulder told me to do, I would drop 500 on a new phone every three months and I would be sans girlfriend (she hates my phone problem).

Remember, the Eris is $99.99 with the upgrade discount. If you want a better processor you are going to spend twice as much. The price point of the Eris takes into consideration the hardware used. All Verizon and HTC were trying to do was offer another Android phone with a lower price point than the Moto Droid. Nobody forced anybody to buy the Eris. If you bought the Eris and are upset about the CPU used, then the advice I would give you is to do more research the next time you buy a phone.

If people do the required research when making a purchase that is going to be a big part of their life, like their phone, they would be much happier. If you accept the limitations of a phone before purchasing it, I guarantee you that you won't be as upset when it doesn't perform like you wish it would. If you did do the research and bought the phone anyway, shame on you for being upset it doesn't perform how you want it to when you knew it wouldn't.

This isn't directed towards anybody in particular. It's just general advice.

You have it all wrong. Neither Verizon nor HTC has ever been anything but honest about the Eris. They have said since day one that the Eris will receive the update to 2.x during the first quarter of 2010. That's your answer. They've never once waffled on that stance.

@awsomeIT
I do not have a problem with Verizon or HTCs "honesty" with regards to delivering 2.x during the first quarter at all. It is the fact that it IS FIRST QUARTER..., very late first quarter, that HTC has taken to create a working 2.x that is compatible with Sense. I am of the opinion that HTC has had a working 2.x model for quite some time (at least first of the year) as evidenced by the other HTC, sense phones that are floating around the leaked videos. I also feel that HTC, with all their resources, should have been able to adapt sense to 2.x much quicker, and that if this is the expected lag time for that development in future updates then an HTC sense phone is not worth the benefit to me personally. I switch back and forth from Home to Sense regularly, waffling between which is better and honestly don't find a huge benefit to Sense other that the 7 screens, which is overkill for me anyway and will be remedied with 2.x. So I dont have an issue with not getting it sooner than promised, which I have paid good attention to and didn't expect it any sooner than the last day in March since the announcement. I have a problem with the fact that it has taken this long to get this done. I have a problem with the fact that Verizon has known this would be coming down the pipe for quite a while and yet there seems to be serious delivery delays even now that HTC has it done. I have a problem with the fact that I, and many, many, other Verizon customers were sold this phone with the vague promise that an update to 2.x is happening "very soon" back in Oct.-Nov. And finally I have a problem with the fact that they are handing my phone out like candy to customers when I chose to go with HTC over Motorola to support their form factor because I believed in it over the much, much more pushed on me MDroid. Yes yes I know, that's the price you pay for buying early, costs drop, tech attrition, I know all this. This is the quickest drop in tech value I have seen ever though. Usually you get at least 6mos- a year before your leading edge tech goes plummeting but not in this case.

I don't understand. You were told first quarter and are still upset it isn't out yet when the first quarter isn't over. The first day and the last day of the first quarter are the same when you tell people it will be out first quarter without specifying a day. If a VZW salesmen sold you on the phone by promising 2.x very soon, then that was the salesman telling you what you wanted to hear to make you comfortable buying the phone. That's out of the control of VZW and HTC.

In the end, you don't have any idea what it takes for HTC to release a version of Sense that is compatible with Android 2.x. Unless you work on the development team you can say that HTC has had a working version since January 1, 2010, but all that is, is an angry Eris user saying so with zero evidence, other than his or her opinion to back it up.

Again, I don't understand why people are upset with HTC or Verizon on this one. Both have said from day one that first quarter 2010 is when 2.x will be released for the Eris. Neither has waffled from that stance and neither said when in the first quarter it would be released. If you want to be upset with somebody, I'd recommend you direct it towards the sales guy who sold you a line about the release date of 2.x.

Verizon has done plenty in the past to draw the ire of customers, but this isn't one of them.

This is my first HTC phone and first experience with HTC. They may be guilty of doing something to anger customer in the past, I don't know, but this isn't one of them, either. They've addressed issues with the Eris twice since the release and are still on target to deliver a version of Sense for Android 2.x within the dates promised.

Both VZW and HTC have announced 2.1 for the Eris. The only timeframe they committed to was quarter 1 2010, which ends march 31.

Anyone complaining at this point in time is really being unreasonable. And technical issues do arise which may cause delays. Until they announce a delay, they are on target for release.

Wow!

The anger, impatience and frustration is getting pretty thick in this thread.

*SHRUG & SIGH*

It comes when it comes. While I agree with most everyone that I would rather see it sooner than later, I also want it running right and loading right. I really don't want to deal with bricks, returns and refurbs.

Fear leads to anger....anger leads to hate...hate, leads to suffering. Get you 2.x, this will not.

This thread is titled "Eris 2.1 delay reason". All I can say is: What delay!?!?! It's only March 2nd. We cannot start talking about a delay until after the 31st. What do people not get about this?

Wow, I got quoted from a different forum.

@ carmencrishnaya

is that your pic on ur avatar if so you looking fine mommie

I would say grow up but people on here really are 12 years old so...

Maybe the update is being held because Verizon hates kittens and is just enjoying the carnage...

Master Yoda is indeed wise in the ways of the force.

BTW..I know when 2.1 is coming out...May 4th, it's the Star Wars holiday..May the fourth be with you!! HAHAHAHAHA:D

For this, a great disturbance in the Force there has been, many kittens will die there must be.

Guys, I got the update. I just turned on my phone and something weird happened. A holographic android came up from my phone like R2D2 with with Princess Leia. The android had the following message "Android 2.1 is not available for your phone. Download when ready."

It's become apparent that those members here, such as yourself and JrzDroid and perhaps a few others, pointing the things out which you simply point out in your quoted post there, are making too much sense.

We see this here from time to time. Making sense does not seem to play well here lately (did it ever? I'm relatively new).

These aren't the droids you're looking for....

Can someone explain to me why threads like this continue to stay unlocked and yet a thread that states these threads need to stop got locked? Aren’t they equally pointless? It is ridiculous that half the threads on the 1st page are about 2.1.

Edit: Seems a Mod merged them all ... good work

Reading the last couple pages of complaints makes me want to get this out of my system, so here goes:

- the Eris was never positioned or marketed as a top-of-the line phone. If you complain about the fact that it isn't, it means you didn't do your research before buying.

- the pace of smartphone technological change is fast, and getting faster. Buy a top-of-the-line phone now, and it'll be technologically dated in a matter of months. That's a fact of life, and complaining about it is a recipe for permanent frustration ... not to mention exorbitant hardware upgrade costs.

- The announced update schedule for 2.1 hasn't yet been missed ... we'll have some cause for unhappiness if we're still running 1.5 in April, but we don't now. And even if the update is delayed, we're still lucky we didn't buy into some other smartphone platforms, where we wouldn't be getting an upgrade at all. (How do you think those people who just bought a WinMobile 6.5 device are feeling these days?)

- It's just a phone. It's just a phone. It's just a phone.

Well, it seems precedent was set by Apple/AT&T when they dropped the price and then came out with the upgraded iPhone. People went into full freak out mode and they caved into rebates and such.

Now people think that if they whine enough, they'll get their way.

Congratulations.

This must mean you've [trumpets!] arrived.

lol....even your sarcasm is exciting. Can I get a drumroll instead of trumpets?

The information I posted over there is exactly the same information I got from here and all of a sudden its news.

I'm so tired of reading theses seemingly never-ending posts about when 2.1 is releasing but I find myself drawn here atleast twice a day to see the latest ramblings of everyone. I swear I won't forget you when 2.1 comes out, I just won't visit as much. BTW, this Is my first post actually from my eris. Best phone ever.

But I want my 2.1 NOW!!!!!! Stomp, stomp, stomp, cry, cry moan

29 days to go. I never really expected it to come until March. But I wish, just once, someone would get something like this done before it was expected. "In Q1" should not always mean they roll it out March 31st at 11:59pm and 58.5 seconds.

I mean they could have just pushed the 2.1 or even 2.0 nonSense (pun intended) version they have apparently had for months and make the Sense version available as soon as it was ready. People would have their Nav and access to apps, and they would have time to knock some Sense into 2.1 the right way.

Buy one get one free should be enough said! They were giving these phones away! I kick myself for going with this phone...at times...but I kick MYSELF...not VZW, HTC, or Google...or anyone else that I can get pissed off at and complain with entitlement.
