Eris to v2.x, when?

Finally pulled the trigger on this...was about the easiest thing I've done in recent memory. It was great to read the difference in views, of course. The knowledge/ability of the senior members (in experience...not age.. of course) is incredible around here. Thanks.

real quick though. what happens to all your contacts? how do you back them up all the numbers? i have a shit load of numbers in my phone and did a factory reset before and lost all the numbers? any way to back up all the contacts ? ? ?

Sure, I did two things; 1. checked to make sure my contacts on my phone were designated "google" contacts, and 2. logged on to my google (gmail) account and made sure all of my contacts were there. Upon verifying that, upgrade when through, and they were "synced" back up during the process.

gotcha. thanks!

I have 2 questions and one sounds stupid but if I format my card on the phone will it wipe out my phone contents like apps and settings, or will whats on my phone be rewriten to the card after the format. 2nd question is can I have a different sound for email and txt notifications? I was able to with 1.5

Change the Gmail notification sound in Gmail settings. Other email doesn't seem to have a way to change the sound.

just dont wanna mess up anything, it looks like its not as easy to switch back and forth between OS's like Blackberries are...lol

Well it seems that someone has figured out how to set it back. So what have you got to lose? Most of the bugs are only minorly annoying or have easy workarounds, and you can do cool new stuff and install some cool Nexus apps. And according to NKT we will all get the update soon to fix the bugs we decide we can't live with long term.

Why do you think someone has figured out how to set it back?

last friday...
took an extra micro sd card.

put the file on it. with a read me file of the instructions.

and put it into circulation around the office....

wonder how it worked out.

That's a shame that the other hundreds or thousands of members apparently aren't good enough.

I apologize. I didn't mean it like that. It just seems that a few people in this thread seem to have some inside info.

I think I'm just gonna keep my mouth shut going forward. I've ticked off enough people with my last couple of posts. Really didn't mean to offend anyone. Sorry if I did.

I read on XDA that it might be possible to downgrade from 2.1 to 1.5 using a file that's extracted while running MR1 RUU (not MR2).

I have NOT tried this, but you're welcome to be the guinea pig.

1. With your phone not connected to your computer, run the MR1 RUU (not MR2). Get to the point where it says it can't find your phone and wants to exit. Don't exit.

2. In Windows explorer, go to:
c:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Temp

3. Sort by date, and the most recent subdirectory should be from no more than a few minutes earlier. It'll be something like "{C4AEBEB0-34E4-482A-811F-C426B9FA87AC}". Open it and find "rom.zip".

4. Move "rom.zip" out of that directory onto your desktop or something and then exit the MR1 RUU.

5. Rename "rom.zip" to "PB00IMG.zip", put it on your SD card, and follow the directions that we all used to upgrade in the first place.

So were would one find the MR1 Update? All I am finding is MR2.

It just seems that a few people in this thread seem to have some inside info.

It can seem that way to anyone fairly new to a device and to the forums for that device. "Inside info" is just a bit more experience with the various issues, some of those issues being well-known amongst the older forum regulars.

I tell people all the time, i just read a lot. I have no training or anything, i just have hung out on cell phone forums for years now back to hacking nextels.

I am positive there are lots of people here that know a lot more then i do....i just post a lot.

You command respect, some people just have "it". Or it could be the Cadillac emblem, I dunno. Seriously though when I first started reading these forums before I decided to make the jump to an android phone you and a few others "stood out". Maybe it is because, current exasperation with some of the repeated questions that have been asked and answered aside, you and some of the others I'm not naming have showed you are willing to help and share what has worked for you. I've been especially impressed with your constant mantra of "this is what works for me, but if you find something you like better use it".

Just my 2cents as a perpetual student of human nature.
