Eris to v2.x, when?

There have been a few different places saying that 2.1 would not come until the beginning of Q2. I guess we have 16 days left to find out. As long as it works properly, I guess.

Exactly. The glitches I've seen in 2.1 make the wait tolerable if they are fixed. Do you think they would work faster fixing the issues if they released as is, then worked on the glitches, or worked on the glitches pre-release? I think they would be working more diligently pre-release.

You do mean "glitches you *heard* about," right? Understand, there will always be glitches. That's why there's a lemon law. That's why I get server / workstation updates at least once a month. It's just the nature of the beast. As for when will they fix some of the bugs, that's a very good question. As far as I'm concerned, 2.1 leak is good enough to put out there in the public domain, albeit with a fix or two post haste. I'm of the belief they are only trying to figure out a delivery method rather than doing bug fixes at this time. But I also have $10 riding on it. Either way, what we are running now with the leak is very, very close to the gold version, imo.

I agree, there are some problems, but it isn't like the phone is horribly corrupt now. Just a few tweaks, and I feel like this would be perfect.

lol, this whole thread reminds me of battered g/f syndrome.

"Yeah, he hits me, but he still loves me!"

People can rationalize anything.

Engadget just posted that the update for the droid is ready, also here is a pdf for it, i don't know if is the most recent, but... would this mean that the eris update is around the corner?

http://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/moto_droid.pdf

The properties of the document say that it was created 3/12/10. I would say that this is pretty recent, but no way to tell for sure if it relates to the Eris. Personally, I am happy with the leaked 2.1. I don't get how so many people gripe about the gmail login bug on reboots. How many times does one have to reboot? I reboot about once a week if not less.

I know no one believes what Verizon customer service says... but I had an email exchange with cust svc today over some other issues, so I figured I would go ahead and ask about the update. Here's the reply:

"My name is Terrence and I understand you are inquiring about the Android 2.1 OS update for the Eris.
I apologize for any delay or lack of information regarding the update.

The truth of the matter is at this time we do not have an official release date for the Eris. I do know the Motorola Droid will get it's long awaited update as of March 18th, so I would imagine the update for the Eris should soon follow."

Ok, I'm interested again!

I'm sure VZ isn't as bad as apple, but I know with us at least we REALLY are not told anything. I refuse to read mac rumors anymore because It helps me plead my ignorance.

Well, remember a couple weeks back when they were having difficulties with the server for the OTA.. wouldn't it have been possible that it had an effect on the moto droid OTA update also. Maybe now that moto droid is getting stuff OTA, couldn't it be possible they fixed the problem. Meaning MAYBE were next. Just a maybe.

I hope so because i'm stuck in limbo as to which phone to get...if the eris gets 2.1 i'm game for that!! I mean i REALLY REALLY like the eris but then again i really really like the droid lol...ugh...BUT i will have to pay more for the droid, not so good...yeah...

You get a more powerful, rooted device with a huge scene for custom ROMs. How hard is the decision?

Wait on the Nexus One, or Incredible. This phone is near the end of its cycle.

Sometimes it ain't about screen size or the power of the cpu. What if a person likes it smaller and the nice back feel of the eris? The decision can be pretty hard.

yeah but see if i wait for the nexus one, i'm in the same delima. It's gonna be a 299 phone, AND through google...the incredible won't be 179 like the eris, so it won't be free lol...right now i HAVE the money to afford the droid, who knows when the Incredible comes out

Hey, maybe that's right (maybe it's not too).

I don't think there's any "if" about it. It's referring to the Motorola Droid; our phone is the HTC Eris. What happens to one phone has ZERO bearing on the other.
Actually, the MOT Droid may have _some_ bearing on the Eris. For example It's not likely that VZW will push out 2 OTAs on the same weekend. Personally, I've always felt that the MOT release would have to come first for market reasons. With it out of the way, I'll start looking for our OTA around Mar 26 (which happens to be really close to the end of Q1 ;)
