Eris to v2.x, when?

I emailed HTC about the 2.1 update and this is what they said.

I understand how important it is to have the most up to date software on your device. The Android 2.1 update is still scheduled for the end of the first quarter of 2010. We do not have an exact date or any information on if the update will be held back or not. Once it is released it will be available on our website at HTC Mobile Phones - Product Support - Smartphones Help or it will be sent out over the air to your device.

This is straight from a HTC rep.

^ that's an automated response from HTC.

Since 2.1 is starting to roll out tomorrow (ironic it's coming out on the same day as the NCAA Tournament), I hope Eris gets the full final 2.1 next week.

Yeah, Bsutton was talking about the Moto Droid's update is coming out tomorrow, not the Eris. I'm guessing the Eris's update is coming next week...least i hope so since i am ordering it tomorrow lol!

Just hung up with HTC and the guy told me 2-3 weeks unless it gets pushed back. He also told me I could either do it OTA or download and install it from HTC Droid Eris Support - Downloads

Lol, I just emailed them and they said: "I understand how important it is for you to have all of the available information about upcoming software updates for your device. Verizon Wireless has confirmed that the Verizon Wireless DROID ERIS by HTC will receive the Android 2.1 (

Hi-all, my roomate works for Verizon's home office and today at work they announced that on friday they will start putting out Android 2.1 in groups of 250,000 customers every 15 hours OTA.

This is such a HUGE window...lol obviously it is a automated response because it's already month 4 out of the "first six months". Oh well..i'm just glad to know the we WILL be getting it for sure...i don't care when, just as long as we DO get it! This email made me happy lol

We're actually in month 3. But Who's Counting?

It's quite likely, and more likely Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week.

If I only had a nickel for how many times this has been posted in this thread...

It's like doomsdayers and other religious folk who place dates on the rapture...always proven wrong.

When's the Mayan calendar supposed to blow up the earth again? :P

The official announcement of the OTA release for Eris was quoted as "before the end of Q1;" that would fall within the days mentioned in my post.

From the "phone arena" website:

"Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney said, "The Droid Eris currently using Android 1.5, can and will be upgraded to newer Android operating system software in first quarter 2010."

All we can do is hope for the best. I feel kind of cheated though. Yes I did get stuck with the Eris which as of now is a bit laggy and if 2.1 does not fix this I am stuck with it for my 2 year contract or until i can get $500+ for a new phone.

Why do phones cost SO much without a new 2 year contract, its not like im leaving the carrier. I am just buying another phone WITHIN the carrier.

The <$100 you paid for your Eris was so because you were locked in to a two year deal. They make their money back, possibly more, by charging you $60 for a plan and then $30 for data. At $100*24, they're definitely making the $400 you "saved" by signing the two year deal.

But I agree, it does suck.
