Eris to v2.x, when?

Frisco, didn't wanna quote the whole post again, but one line stands out to me:
"- The Over The Air update for your device was developed to completion on March 29th."

What facial expressions and or hand gestures did he make when he said that? Did he emphasize the 'com', 'ple' or 'tion' part? Was there any winking involved? Nose scratching?

Nah, but seriously, that line is really good news. Cuz I'm thinking that if they think the development part is 'complete' that means they've probably worked out the bugs that people have mentioned with the leaks. At least I hope. So with that, and the Droid's OTA in cycle, what other reason could there be to hold off pushing it out? Either way, good to hear/read. Thanks for sharing!!

He was playing with a yo-yo and blowing big pink bubbles with his Fleer Bubble Gum. No eye-contact, but there was something running down his cheek from the left one.

j/k, lol, etc..

But seriously, I should mention that I invited him to join http://androidforums.com and have fun fielding queries. He smiled and we shook hands again and I picked up my wife's printer off the floor and headed to check-out and rushed home to make that post.

Just got an email from Verizon Support:

Thank You for contacting Verizon Wireless!! We welcome the opportunity to assist you.

We are experiencing extremely high email volumes. We are making every effort to respond to your inquiry as quickly as possible.

Thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless. We appreciate your business.

I actually called HTC today and spoke with one of the reps. Basically, she told me that she didn't have a date yet, but that it was rumored to be out by the end of MAY and that it was in Verizon's court. (Really hoping the Best Buy scenario is more accurate). However, she seemed to have more info on the actual update by way of its effect on the phone. She told me that I should back up my contacts and anything else I deemed important. She said that the only thing that will not be wiped will be media (ie pics, music) stored on the SD card. Otherwise, it's going to be just like a hard reset and in her words "getting a brand new phone".

Seems to me that information on this OTA is starting to get a little more concrete. No dates, etc, but at least representatives are now talking more specifically about it. We'll see........

That's some very good news! Thanks for passing along the information. I just had a new phone sent out to me because my touch input kept force closing on me whenever I tried to type the word "I'm".(weird eh?) I was planning on installing leak v2 as soon as I got my new phone, but after hearing this bit of info I might just be patient and wait. Thanks again.

And it isn't rooted why? ;)

well, i will share my responses from both HTC and Verizon Wireless today...

if frisco's source is accurate, it means you only have a handful of days left to root. after 2.1, there will be no more guaranteed root opportunity.

Actually that's not true. Since the desire and legend have supposedly both been rooted with 2.1, there's always a chance for root with the official 2.1.

So it will erase my open home app that cost me 4 bucks?

If it does a hard reset and wipes everything, then yes. Want some good news? If you then go into the market, it will show up as "Purchased" and you can download it again WITHOUT paying for it again. As long as you put in the same email address as you have on the phone now (it's linked to your google account, so even if you have to get a new phone, you can redownload your apps without having to pay again). :D

I guess its different for the Droid going from 2.0 to 2.1, but I know my dad's phone had absolutely everything left in place. Pics, downloaded ringtones, apps, etc...

Yes the Droid is different as it was an "incremental" update and not a new "revision". Of course for us, anything stored on the SD card will remain untouched and the main concern will be redoing our screen layouts and re-installing apps, but when I installed the leak and opened the Market, they were all there under Downloads waiting to be reinstalled.

No worries!!
