Eris to v2.x, when?

So it will erase my open home app that cost me 4 bucks?

Yes, but the Android Market is so much better in this regard than iPhone/iPod Touch. With the Market, you can redownload purchased apps, but in the Apple App Store, if you reset your iPod, you have to call them, explain your situation, and hope they let you redownload it.

Yes the Droid is different as it was an "incremental" update and not a new "revision". Of course for us, anything stored on the SD card will remain untouched and the main concern will be redoing our screen layouts and re-installing apps, but when I installed the leak and opened the Market, they were all there under Downloads waiting to be reinstalled.

No worries!!

I have my contacts on google, and apps on AppBrain. So I am prepared for that anyway. I dont mind going back through all my settings either. Its a one time thing, and the upgrade will be well worth it.

My thoughts exactly! Sometimes, just out of boredom I do a factory reset and set it all up in a different way anyway. I like to play with different looks, etc...

wouldnt it be easier to just switch themes? or is there some sort of advantage to wiping everything instead of switching themes?

I know you can save your "Scenes" on the phone, but is there a way to back them up to your SD Card? I'd like to be able to reinstall the apps I had before a wipe, then re-instate a saved Scene. Is that possible?

Well, I know this is my first post and all, but most retailers go on a 4-5-4 week scale to map out quarters starting sometime in early february and ending in late January. This way they can boost their sales at year end with holiday shopping. According to our fiscal calander (which I'm sure is similar to Verizon's) the first quarter ends on May 1, 2010

Yeah, but that calendar also predicts the world to end in 2012.

Frisco, that info coming from you is either:

A) The straight-up, honest-to-god truth
B) A sure sign that Hell has frozen over
C) All of the above

Either way, I hope there's no snags! I can't wait to have a legit Digg app that will actually work! (Has the web data wont load glitchy thing on my 2.1 eris.. boo!)

A warning to those that have paid apps: All paid apps paid for in 1.5 market may not show up in the 2.1 market.
I switched to 2.1 several weeks ago. I purchased NBA Gametime on 1.5 for $9.99. That app is not available in the 2.1 market. I had to download it from somewhere else.

We've heard quite a range of rumors, quotes and theories about the 2.1 update for the Eris (and the Droid, which is rolling as we speak).

All I personally can say, rumors and forum posted quotes aside, that I actually know about the update is:

- It was being worked on in February and two incremental versions of it appeared on line as developer's leaks

- Those leaks exhibited a quantum change in the device's system, making it virtually a different device altogether

- Those leaks were incomplete and/or unfinished, given the re-occurring bugs, failures and incompatibilities with applications which the stock 1.5 ran with no issues as reported in various forums

So, it can be surmised from those known facts that, unless the update has been abandoned between when it was leaked and now, it is forthcoming.

We know as true facts nothing else, no matter what anybody says from any source, although I tend to lean very strongly in the direction of what Scott told me in the store; his overall professionalism, demeanor and credibility seemed exemplary.

Dear Customer,
Hello, I am not going to give you a straight answer about when the HTC eris update will be deployed because I am an uninformed monkey answering emails. Instead, I will just waste your time since you are wasting mine, and answer as ambiguous as possible.

Please feel free to visit htc.com for news and information, and hopefully buy a bunch stuff, or visit verizonwireless.com for news and information in hopes you'll check out our products page and buy things.

If you would like to be spammed with all sorts of junkmail, please subscribe to our news letter to recieve information (not involving anything about when the eris 2.1 will be deployed) on other products you can spend your money on. If you would like you and your friends to be spammed with all sorts of junkmail, please subscribe to our facebook page to recieve information (not involving anything about when the eris 2.1 will be deployed) on other products you and your friends can spend your money on.

Sincerely,
your friends at Verizon/htc

Absolutely it would be easier...I have this mental "twitch" where I like to have a fresh install from time to time, I even format my laptop hard drive and reinstall windows every 6 months.

I am the Howie Mandel of the tech world, my wife basically thinks I need to see a doctor about it....she gets pissed when I ask her if she is defragging enough!

I do not believe there is any technical advantage, I just like starting over!

Trust me, I got issues!!

....
There you have it, those of you eager for the OTA will likely start seeing it well before the end of this month, in my opinion based on Scott's rather educated remarks.
Funny thing, OT naturally, I fully intended to flash my son's phone this week to 2.1 leak and he simply refused. Said, "I have the phone exactly how I like it." Thought to myself, "Frisco"!! But he didn't have a hat.

I know...I don't understand why people think customer service is the BIBLE..or why they would have all the correct info...

Would you trust someone answering calls for $10 an hour or someone in the IT department?

Ok guys. Believe me if you want to, I don't care. But my not so tech savvy buddy just got a disturbing message. He said he was messing around in one of his apps and all of a sudden a transparent screen filled in the phone and here's what it said:
On the top of the screen it read:

"NOTIFICATION...(something...something-he doesnt remember)"
"2.1 update...(something...)"

"Here are the improvements...(something...)
"Faster processor speed" (or something like that)
"Improved battery life"
"..." (he said it listed like 5 things or so)

Then on the bottom of the screen was a big "OK" button. He pressed the button and it went away.
He text me to see if I ever saw it because he just upgraded to the eris about a week ago as a long time Verizon cusromer. I told him he was screwing with me and made him come over so I could check his phone. But I didn't find anything unusual. The only other thing that happened a few minutes after he got that weird transparent screen was a text that came through that simply read: "2/2 update for 2.1". Then shortly after that, while we were texting each other about it, we both received a text that said something about "media was removed due to...(something)". But that is all that happened so far. I told him he might be getting the update overnight with all this stuff going on with his phone. No joke here guys!! Maybe that didn't mean anything but it's the honest to God truth of what happened tonight. We live near Chicago and it was about 7:00pm.
What do you guys think?

No man, I swear to God this is the truth. No f'ing around here. I have no reason to screw around- just want some answers. My buddy doesn't even know what 2.1 is. I had to explain it to him.

PICS???? how could I? It only lasted until he hit "ok" then went away. Nothing else. I bet you this will happen to other people. And when it does, I want to be in the record books for breaking the story!

Sorry for double post. C'mon guys, let's hear some ideas.

if it just went away then I say BS it must of been an app update, if it were the real deal he would have said the phone rebooted to some wired screen with a yellow bar etc.. and he wouldn't be able to txt you until after the install went through. which would take nearly 15 minutes.

No dude I'm not trying to say he has the update- I know he doesn't!! That's why I checked his phone. I think that was just a notification that he will be part of the first batch. I don't know...just a guess. And it was not an app update. Weird transparent window that all of a sudden covered his whole screen with the info. Almost like an ad on what to expect.
