Eris update

I just got off the phone with Verizon and they say that they have changed the 2.1 roll out method. They are now going to send out the update OTK (over the kitten). The only thing the reps are concerned about is the mass kitten genocide that keeps occurring because of these threads. If you guys keep it up there will never be an update.

If they used bunnies it would be faster!

Moral is, sales reps don't know shit.

No offense to these two posters (because it's done by dozens of others here as well) but these statements mean add nothing. Let's classify this as a pet peeve of mine.

Sales reps know what they have to know for their job. They are not R&D, Tech Support, Product Development, PR or Engineering. It's nonsense to ask and then berate them because they don't know the answers to questions outside of their area of expertise.

As far as battery life. That is not a question of "good" or "bad". Every battery has a specific output and it is what it is. If you only keep the phone in standby and do a couple of calls a day, your battery will obviously last longer between recharges. If you have 7 screens full of constantly updating widgets, surf the web, run Pandora, use navigation, latitude, etc., you will obviously need to recharge more often. It's not a question that has a subjective answer. If you want to go further between charges, reduce your usage or get a battery with more output.

I would say that some salespeople out there know what they are talking about. I have met many that are actually pretty knowledgeable on the products they are selling. However, since I am a research junky I would be willing to guesstimate that 80% to 90% of the time, I know more about the product than the person I am talking to. This isn't just in tech, but all things. I don't really blame them though, I wouldn't want to spend my free time learning about something I don't care about either. We enjoy this stuff, most of those guys and girls just see it as a paycheck.

To be honest I don't ever expect anyone to be an expert on whatever they are trying to sell me, but I do expect them to be honest. If I were to ask about battery life and they don't know, I expect a response like, "I am not sure Ma'am, but I can find out for you." instead of, "That battery is 1.21 gigawatts and will hold a charge until your kids 18th birthday."

As far as the battery life goes, I have found that taking the battery out all together makes it last a really long time. :p Seriously though, it is a smart phone and it is designed to run and it is going to use the battery. To me, buying a smartphone and complaining that the battery doesn't last all day with heavy usage is like buying a Lamborghini and complaining that it doesn't get the gas mileage of a Prius. :D

Just relaying what I was told..thats all...

You and about 3 bazillion other people have all said stuff like this.....if you did a simple search regarding Verizon reps you would have seen that this has been pounded into the ground all the way to Saturn!!!!

Little follow up..
so since verizon has been tuggin on my balls since day 1, I decided to call HTC. Guess what they told me....thats right, they dont have a date they have no idea...WTF is this shit. Look, if they are having problems with it then just say so. Dont keep giving out false information, all that does is piss ppl off.

I hope, for your balls' sake, that Verizon lets go soon.

Yes, I still own an Eris, but have moved back to my Moto Droid and now to my Incredible. Sorry to say guys but we just got an update already, and the phone was already stellar. Not rubbing it in, just thinking that the Eris... while a great phone with some bugs, may always have the bugs. Just don't see it getting the support as the other phones are much more popular and newer. Good luck everyone, this is probably one of the best communities on the net. Keep your heads up.

The difference is that those updates are maintenance updates and not a full OS update. Easier for VZW to send out and HTC to work on most of the time. I'd double check your Youtube app though.;)

not sure if that was a joke or not but had to check... :o

works like a champ!

I really hope that the Eris gets the update as I still have my wife on the Eris. it's a great phone with lots of potential.

Very funny "Damned" :D

Sorry if it's been asked before, but have we finally found a date that the Eris gets 2.1? The guy at my store said by the end of Q1 2010. lol wuts that?

It is to fix a2.1 problem with exchange. Eris didn't need it. Coming in here to spout off about an update that effects business users specifically on2.1 is well.... whatever.

Yeah, the Droid is more of a developer phone, even more so than the Incredible. The Incredible is more of the Eris in just a bigger case and with a better processor. I think a root can fix it because I think Sense is what's holding the Eris back. Think? I know a custom UI is holding every Android phone back. Stock Android is the way to go and the best stock Android phone you can buy is the Droid, in my opinion. It doesn't have the hardware issues the N1 has. It has the ability to surpass an N1 when overclocked and still be efficient, and as nice as the N1 is and as much as Google doesn't want to admit it, it was a SALES flop. 3G and screen issues don't help much, as does being on the worst carrier of the major carriers, T-Mobile.

We just gotta wait a little bit. The next best stock Android phone will be revealed soon and with hints of it coming to VZW (not to sound dramatic, but..) the best of the major carriers, I think it will be another Droid-like success. Actually, it literally may be another Droid.
