Root Eris

thats really wierd abut the activation. seems i maybe had that on the stock rom when i first got my phone, but i havent seen it since. ive also never seen that message about the data connection

I messed up it's not data connection. I rebooted the test phone and sure enough it wanted me to activate it. That's gonna be a pain in the a** if I have to do that everytime I reboot that phone. So there's the next hurttle.

ive never had my inactive phone scream at me to activate it,except maybe on the stock rom. i think that once youve signed in with google that you wont see the message again at reboot. especially if youre not using the stock rom :)

actually,i have an idea :D maybe the difference is that my phone used to be active on my account. if you look in about phone,is it still his phone number? if so(or even if it has no phone number  ) why dont you go ahead and activate it for a few minutes. turn your phone off, call *228 and then make a couple calls or texts and make sure it works, then power it off and go dial *228 again from the old eris to reactivate it.

i betcha once you do that, you wont see that "activate me" screen fo sho :D:p;):):D

Damn we think alike. Beam me up Scotty.:D I was thinking that yesterday.;):D

I ask this question in the application section without an answer. Is there an app that will allow call to be made over a WiFi connection so I can test the phone dialer and text messageing.

you can do texts from this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pinger.textfree&feature=search_result

i have the same thing on my ipod, but its "textfree with voice" so it makes calls too  i guess maybe the voice version hasnt made it to android yet, cause i cant find it in the market. just the normal one.

when you sign up for an account with it,it creates an actual phone number. i drive my gf nuts texting her from my ipod and various inactive phones, lol.

edit: for voice calls you might try skype
