Help!

I'm a little freaked out by the message I just saw when I tried to eject my HTC Desire.

"error: cookie monster is chewing the cable"

Should I be?

It's a new (replacement refurbed Desire) from Orange. I have downloaded one or two apps, all pretty mainstream like doubletwist and swype. I also bought a new sd card (Kingston 16gb) and had a little trouble today when downloading an update from swype - I kept getting messages saying there is no memory on my phone. Though after I turned it on and off it seemed ok. Anyway! Back to my original question - I searced on Google for that error message and the only things I could see were to do with hacking.....

Thanks in advance for any help.

That's certainly a new one on me. I'd be very suspicious. I sure don't think it's a self induced problem. I do believe I'd be scanning my phone for possible problems.

It might not even be worth downloading, but I saw a free AVG virus scan app on the Android Market not long ago. I'd advise you to try that. :P

Thans for your resonses. I bought the card from Amazon because I had seen threads on here advising against buying them from ebay. The Amazon seller has 4.8 stars from 97,185 ratings, so I would hope he is buying the sd cards from a reputable source, but then again.

Olbriar, could you adivse how do I scan my phone for possible problems, and should I be worried that it might have infected my computer? What precautions should I take?

Do you think it is likely to come from the sd card? It's hard to know where else it could have come from. I will contact the seller and ask where he got it from and try to run that program - thanks EarlyMon.

Given that I am not particularly competent with computer or phone - not useless, but just not especially confident, any advice would be very gratefully received.

Any idea how I do this?

Thanks

You're not very specific about this "message" ;) What happened in detail (appearance and behavior of the message) ?

Maybe a new kind of push advertising ?

Run 'Addons Detector' to find out.
Use the filter 'Push Notifications'.

Hi Harry,

So in a bit more detail: I plugged my new HTC Desire into my macbook, and selected mount as disc drive. I think I then tried to eject it from itunes or DoubleTwist soon after, I cant remember which, at which point a message box popped up which said: "error: cannot eject the device because the cookie monster is chewing the cable". It was a small grey box, with black writing. It didn't really do anything, it just popped up (no flashing or aything like that).

I then simply pulled the cable out anyway, because I was freaked out by the message. I know this sounds a bit stupid but I can't for the life of me remember what happened next. Ie: I can't remember if I had to force quite itunes and/or doubletwist, or not. I then uninstalled doubletwist.

That's about it I suppose. Since then the only thing that has happened that has been unusual is that my macbook made a loud beeping sound when the battery was running low that I could only stop by actually removing the battery. Something it as never done before. Other than that I havent noticed anything unusual, but I am concerned in case my security has been compromised - and whoever has done so is simply waiting before doing anything. Maybe I am being overly paranoid?

It has only happened once, 2 days ago. It just appeared in the middle of my screen.

So the message did appear on your Mac's screen?
That could be a security breach issue on the Mac.

The above title) That's exactly what was said when disconnecting my cable from my itunes after syncing my music to my android. Is this a pop up joke when the cord just can't disconnect at the moment?
