Everywhere I turn, it seems ASTRO is the most popular file management app.

I've used both and it seems ES File Explorer is equivalent if not better, and it's free and has no ads (unlike ASTRO). They both seem to have the same set of features, like file management, app management, and tasks, etc.

Am I missing something?

Astro does backup programs, but TBH, I pretty much stopped using Astro since I installed eStrongs, mostly because it's so much faster when I transfer files over the network.

I think, though, you still need Astro if you want to attach any kind of file to emails. By default, there are only certain files that can be attached.

I've used both Astro and eStrongs, and they both get the job done.

However, I prefer eStrongs -- find the UI more attractive and flexible.

I bought Astro, used for a couple of weeks and then got ES File Explorer. ES File Explorer does so much more then Astro. FTP, Lan, Local.. Better UI . It works well also.

Count me a another Astro user now using EStrongs. I love the LAN copying. My only suggestion would be the ability to change how file types are opened.

Astro seems to be faster in general for me, but I prefer backing up apps with Estrongs because it backs up multiple versions of an app. If I could only keep one, it would be Astro.

I like estrongs. Native support for access to lan shares puts it over the top.

eStrongs and Linda do this. When I found this out, it was bye bye all other file managers (except root explorer. Root explorer is still the best for handling folders that need root access.)

Something I forgot to mention that I like about Astro is that you can create shortcuts to files/folders right on your home screen, whereas Estrongs has bookmarks within the app itself.

Hmmm. That is a nice feature I didnt know about. Thanks for posting this.

I use Astro because it was recommended most when I got my phone. I also installed eStrongs recently to try it out, but haven't used it much. It's good to know it has some unique features.

ES File Explorer + ES Task Manager = Complete Control for Free (and no adds)
I tried a lot of file managers and found ES is the best by far, fast with all features and no adds, what more?
