Even the iPhone runs Android 2.2 before the Incredible :(

the way some of you obsess about 2.2 you'd think we were like the storm1 owners when that phone first came out. in desperate need of an update just to get the phone to run without rebooting or freezing up.

the incredible has no lag as it is right now. where would incredible users notice a speed increase in real world use?

i'm sure 2.2 is great and all, but that (and root access) will come in due time. fortunately we have a very good phone to hold us over until then. :)

We go through this about every 5 posts. Why can't people be excited about it? Why does everyone rain on our parade? I'm sure all of you "2.2 isn't that great" people were excited to get your Incredible. So, let us be excited for root and 2.2.

Very true, and I'm pretty damn excited about getting an update that makes our "very good" phones that much better...

you may have misread my post. i didn't say people can't be excited about 2.2 nor did i say "2.2 isn't that great".

this thread wasn't posted with the intent of getting people excited about 2.2, it was really more of a b session about how other devices have 2.2 or root and we don't have it yet. my post was adding levity to the situation...even without that stuff we have an excellent phone. waiting isn't painful at all and yes the phone will get better once we do have those things.

i also asked the question "the incredible has no lag as it is right now. where would incredible users notice a speed increase in real world use?" would you care to answer it?

Improved performance
- Browser - Enhanced using V8 engine, faster loading of JavaScript-heavy pages
- Performance boost for CPU-heavy apps - 2x-5x speedup vs. Android 2.1 with Dalvik JIT
- Kernel Memory Management Boost: Improved memory reclaim up to 20x, for faster app switching and smoother performance on memory-constrained devices

Camera and Camcorder
- Faster preview doubles frame rate from ~10FPS to ~20FPS

The Nexus One running Android 2.1 gets about 6.5-7 MFLOPS, the Nexus running Froyo 2.2 is a whopping 37.5 MFLOPS. That

I'm excited for 2.2 but I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting for it to come. Nor am I going to throw a hissy fit when some other phone can run it before my Inc. I've got plenty of other stuff to focus my energy on. 2.2 will happen when it happens.

This is my exact feeling on the issue. I couldn't care less if an iPhone runs 2.2. After all, it's still on AT&T.
