EVO 3D: Gorilla glass? S-LCD?

With the many unfortunate "accidental drops" and broken screens original EVO users suffered, this makes me wonder; does the EVO 3D sport Gorilla glass? 5 dollars to the first one who can confirm or deny this.

Also, what kind of display technology does 3D/Parallax use? Didn't get a chance to see how black the blacks were on any of the videos enough for me to judge..
 
HTC's been using S-LCD on all of their devices lately so I don't see why this would be different.
 
The gorilla glass is a gimick IMO. It will shatter just about as well as an other glass when the stress is placed on its corner. Consequently, most EVO glass breakage is a result of the the device falling on a corner, not face down. I think the most famous phone that touted Gorilla Glass was the iPhone 4. It also showcased how easily it can actually break.
 
glass will break.. it is one property of glass you can not change much.

but GG does give some extra protection against scratches...
I am not saying it is a huge difference over normal glass...but some. how much.. I dont know. Quality glass is very scratch resistant.

I would like the phone to have GG over NOT.
so.. anyone know???
 
I'm still looking for confirmation of SLCD as well. It makes the most sense, but if it somehow has the same or similar crappy TFT LCD the EVO has, I won't be getting it.
 
i am pretty sure it is not the same tech on the og evo.

vids of the reviews there at ctia... said next to the og evo, the new one had much better look!

SLCD is a brand, not a type of LCD technology. There a number of LCD technologys, but only a few classes, and pretty much all of the ones you've seen since after the days of the early calculators have all been of the TFT-LCD class, including SLCD, Retinal Display, every non-projecting LCD TV or monitor you've ever seen - _all of those_ were/are TFT-LCD.

In fact, it simply makes sense to just call them LCDs and save on the letters and that's what we all do.

So far as I know, an SLCD is either a PVA or a CP/VA type of LCD technology -- and in truth, every one of these makers wants to tout their display type because buzzwords sell.

The Evo shipped with displays from at least 3 different suppliers during its (ongoing) production - so, the display you've personally seen that was so crappy may not be the same one as what others have seen.

And fwiw - many of the shipped Evos used an SLCD.

What none of the phones have shipped with is contrast and color adjustments (at least gamma, srsly, pls!) - and so we all have to toss in that any argument about display appearance becomes only a matter of "almosts" because we don't how various units within a production run will shape up compared to each other, much less differing LCD types.

Phones fall and they break. Iphone 4, EVO 4G...glass is glass in my opinion. I guess I don't plan on dropping my phones or putting them in places where they may acquire scratches. Then again I always use a case and screen protector on my phone.
 
Ok, I'm impressed. Earlier (say a few months ago), that same page did not list the Evo 4G at all.

Neither did it say this:

Your favorite device may include Gorilla Glass, even if you don't see it listed.

Previously, they made a big deal of advertising their few select partners adopting it.

I wonder if later production units only have it? :confused:

I stand corrected. I am 100% positive original units didn't have it. I was following that thread on XDA. I would presume you are correct.
 
Yeah I was personally searching for the answer for a while when I first got my Evo back in July. They probably did switch up the parts. Either way, I'm sure this is a good sign that the 3D will have Gorilla Glass. :)
 
Last year.. when I got my hero... i knew it had gg... and assumed that the evo would to.

But could not find confirmation till now.
This makes me guess that evo always had it and evo 3D will too

It is just a miss conception.. gg does not help breakage.. it does help resist scratching.

The 4.3 inch is the real problem... size does matter... bigger glass breaks easier than smaller pieces
 
I think it actually does bend much more than "normal" glass does (give your screen a push, it has quite a lot of flex in it being glass - but this is also one of the things I read about gorilla glass and is one of the things being touted). What people don't understand is that if you smack it on a corner it will still crack about as easily as any other glass.
