EVO 3D: Gorilla glass? S-LCD?

Not sure what would be the point of that, or even who the hell goes through the day scratching the surface of their phone roughly with keys?

Some guy did it with his OG D1. If you felt confident about the resistance of your screen to scratching I thought maybe you could show us on your phone so we could compare results.

Side note: all it takes is having a little sand in your pocket (for those of us ex SoCal inhabitants) and your screen can be toast.

Feel like you could take your key and scratch the surface roughly and show us a video of it?
you can find many vids on youtube with doing that.

One thing I like about my HTC Hero is the glass. It's been dropped, kicked and thrown in my pocket with all kinds of sharp edged military gear, and it doesn't have a single scratch after a year of service.

I expect the same level of performance from the Evo3D. Call it Gorilla glass or wet noodle, I don't care, as long as it works.

i dont want something big like the evo3d .. called a "wet noodle" in my pocket.

how would that look.. when my next date.. she ask me .."what is that big thing in you pocket?"

Well if it's that important to you, feel free to buy your own Galaxy S and do your own demonstration.

Still not totally convinced. The Sensation's Gorilla glass is mentioned in every announcement about that phone -- why wouldn't it be similarly listed in the EVO 3D's online specs if it was included for sure?

that is a good point... why not highlight it.

but...
only place you will find GG for the OG evo.. is on cornings website. and that was only just released on their website. maybe 1 month old.

This brings us to the question: What are the differences between Sensation and 3D, apart of obvious 2D/3D related? Same body width/length, same display size/res, same hardware - different battery and what more?

The EVO 3D will have more RAM, and a 1.3MP front facing camera? Doesn't the Sensation only have a VGA front facing camera? even if it doesn't, we're getting 1GB of RAM as opposed to 768MB. :)

The sensation also has 1 gig rom, as opposed to the 3D's 4 gig. Although I really like the way the sensation looks, the 3D has a nicer edge specs-wise.

Yep, I have one as well. The Sprint HTC Hero also sports Gorilla Glass.

I honestly did not realize that until I went searching to see if the Sprint HTC EVO 3D would have it. The more you know.

thats actually wrong. He is not talking about rom, he is talking about ram. sensation has 768 system ram and evo 3d has 1gb. The rom space is for onboard storage which is 1gb vs 4gb on the evo 3d.

There is no way the early EVO's had Gorilla Glass, there were a TON of them broken, and easily. I do believe the late V003 or at least the 004 have GG. They are finally some tough suckers. The 3D should be in good shape with the later. My third EVO took a beating before I just decided to pay a deductible and get a new one.

i have a hero.. it is gorilla glass.

i dont think it is tougher... but smaller.
smaller pieces of anything.. are less likely to shatter or break.

example....

take a 1 foot flat square piece of gorrilla glass.
drop it from 3 inches on to hard surface...

now... pick up any piece of the left over...
drop from 3 inches on to hard surface...

2nd time.. no breakage??

It's not so much the the breakage it's the lack of scratches. I think everyone here accepts that a phone that is smaller will withstand a lot better..

Well I've never really been one to go rub my phone all over the cement, so mine looks pretty much like it just came out of the box. The screen is flawless other than some dust that got under the one corner. This is all after I dropped my phone (face down), threw my phone in the air (also landing face down, don't ask :p), and threw my pants in the laundry basket with the phone in them, but the phone flew out of the pocket and smacked (face first) into the wall. It's always done more damage than it's taken, so I can't complain!

There is no Gorilla Glass for the EVO3D.

Dear cletusowns,
I appreciate your interest in the HTC EVO 3D and you had some questions about this Android device. Some of our devices come with screens made out of a proprietary formula of glass and some have Gorilla glass. Unfortunately, this device is not one of those devices in the list for Gorilla glass.
Sincerely,
Danielle

I sincerely hope she's wrong, and find it very suspect that they would do so for the Sensation, then not for the 3D. Unless there's something about the display that we don't know about, it seems like a terrible move.

Is it really that hard to believe it won't have GG? The parallax barrier has to go somewhere. What if it has to go in the glass? Maybe Corning won't make custom orders like that, or it wouldn't be cost effective.

Either way, I plan on putting a screen protector on.

I guess I always assumed that the parallax barrier was below the glass, or basically sitting on top of the actual LCD. Admittedly, I haven't looked into it much, so perhaps you're right.
