Help evo 4 g updated tool bar

I installed an update today and now I have a grey tool bar on the side of my screen that I would like to remove is this possible? It's really a pain I don't like it at all.

Not sure of what your talking about however if you can't find a setting to remove it then the only other thing I know to remove stuff like that is to root the phone. Can you show us a screen shot? What update was it?
