Root Evo 4G 2.3.3 can't root

Are you absolutely sure you're writing down the serial number? There are several numbers on the back of the phone. You want the one that has S/N by it. Sounds obvious I guess, but there was a guy on here awhile back that was not copying down the right number. Try copying your generated beta key and pasting it in instead of recopying. Several have had issues with it. I think OCN has mentioned a specific program he used to get it to take his beta key.

Man, I feel lost here! I rooted my first Evo4g in less than an hour but I just got this replacement and I can't get it to root. It says:

Supersonic EVI2-3 Ship S-On
HBOOT-2.16.0001
MICROP-041f
Touch Panel-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.0000
Mar 8 2011

Don't know if any of this helps but I sure could use your expertise in resolving my rooting nightmare. I simply want my Evo to allow for free Hotspot, nothing more.

What am I missing here?
Is that radio number right? That's not one I've seen before. You may need to reflash stock to get Revolutionary to work correctly.

In that case, Revolutionary should work. Copy/paste is key to having the SN and beta key be accurate. Revolutionary will report the SN you need when you run it.

Do you have a direct link to do that? I can't find the link to the methodology of obtaining my serial number. Can you help?

Link you to Revolutionary? I'm sure the guide ocn linked includes everything you need.

Once you connect the device, and you run Revolutionary, it'll detect your device and report your serial number. Then you can copy/paste it.

Okay, I attained s-off and lemonade, the problem was that my serial number on the back of phone was incorrect as opposed to that which the computer displayed. Unfortunately, when I go to install tethering it says "no boot," then "sorry, but your kernal does not have all necessary features for running this application."

Any suggestions?

Have you rooted your ROM (i.e. installed Superuser)? There should be a hacked version of the native Sprint hotspot you can use to tether, unless you wanted to tether with 4G.

Though I am definitely in S-off mode when I try to operate the wireless tether it says either "no root" or is your device rooted? Further, the message "tethering started with errors."

For some reason root access is impeded.

I tried to install superuser but not sure if it installed properly.

I appreciate any help you can give me on this, As I said earlier, the only app I am looking to gain is free WIFI tethering as I had before.

Thanks

PS when I tried to download the superuser on my phone it said: "cannot open file." I tried to follow the instructions on youtube with my phone connected to my pc but his file was a zip he dropped in as is while my files was open. I tried to download it as a closed zip file and my system keeps opening the file.

i would try out a custom rom that has su built in. try mikg3.0 it is waaaaaaaay better then stock. it is a combination of sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 something that our evos will never get. it is very fast and stable. once you flash that then you can use wifi tethering. it even has the hacked sprint hotspot as well. here it is:
MikG v3.0 [12/17/2011]

download the v3.0, you can flash the tweaks later if you like.

use the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html to get instructions on how to flash a rom in the flashing section.

Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately, when I click on the link I keep getting this AdFly crapola! It then said some virus was blocking me from the link. I have never seen anything like this before!

What now?

try registering with the site first and then try and download it. make sure your popup blockers are turned off maybe. or try a different browser. it works on chrome for me.

My new Evo 4g is a refurbished one and made in the Phillipines. My serial number did not match the one I generated the other day through my laptop. The serial under battery is wrong and would not create proper Beta key. Unfortunately I can't remember how I got my laptop to generate the serial number? I AM is S-off and I even got the message about lemonade yet my apps still do not work!

Can you help me to remember how to gain access to my phones serial number via computer? I want to try a reinstall but can't without that serial.

This thing is driving me crazier than I already am!

Again thanks in advance for any help you can give.

wait you have s-off? what is your hboot? do you have a custom recovery?

Here's what it originally said:

Supersonic EVI2-3 Ship S-On
HBOOT-2.16.0001
MICROP-041f
Touch Panel-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.0000

Here is what it says now:

Revolutionary
Supersonic EVT2-3 ship S-Off
hboot-6.16.1002
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.000

My original problem with rooting was the serial number on the back of the phone under the battery conflicts with that which is generated via my computer. I could not make lemonade or even generate a BETA key with the serial on the back of phone but it did so with the serial displayed in a command prompt. I can't remember how I got my computer to find my true serial number which is where I am at right now. Totally stymied. I am NOT good at this stuff but am very determined! I hope the above tells you something I am not comprehending.

I only want to gain tether but all attempts to tether have been thwarted.

Is your phone rooted firmware too new, and wrong kernel messages.

I will go back over that site again but I need to obtain my serial number before I can go any further to re root if need be.

Any help is infinitely beyond mention of my appreciation and thanks!

You don't need to run Revolutionary again. You are already S-OFF (which is what Revolutionary does - it does NOT give you root access). You should already have a custom recovery, too, so all you would need to do is flash Superuser.

Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip

Download that zip (do not unzip!) and copy it over to your SD card. Reboot your device into Recovery (choose "RECOVERY" from the HBOOT Menu), and flash the zip file you downloaded. You should now be rooted!

I thought I did that already. When I run the tether program I used on my other phone it says no root, wrong kernel or something like that. It appears to be running but isn't. Here is what occurred after when I retried obtaining my serial number:

Found your device PC36100
Supersonic 6.16.1002 Android 2.3.3
ROM version 4.54.651.1
"your device is already in S-off what exactly do you think you're doing?"

I then installed clockwork mod and it said "success!"

I'm wondering if there is a serial number conflict going on here? Is that possible

also do you know how to obtain the serial number from the phone other than looking under the battery?

Did you flash the Superuser file, like I said? Even if you did it already, it won't hurt doing it again.

Then, after you reboot, go to the Market and download the app "Root Checker". That'll tell you whether or not you're rooted. You should have an app in your app drawer called "Superuser". That's what manages your root access.

Your Serial Number isn't relevant to root. You're already NAND unlocked, with a custom recovery - there's nothing else Revolutionary can do for you, trust me.

I used root checker and got:

Sorry, Superuser (processcom.noshufou.android.su has stopped unexpectedly). Please try again

I have gotten this message when trying to run tether as well.
When I ran boot checker it said device seems to be running very slow and wen I forced stop the message read "sorry this device does not have proper root access"

So Superuser is installed - good. I would boot into recovery, wipe cache & dalvik-cache, and then on reboot, open the superuser app, and see if it continues to force close on you.

If this continues, I'll probably recommend that you do a full wipe and flash the latest rooted stock ROM. That should solve all of your root issues.

Followed your instructions, but no luck. Do you have a link to the best instructions to perform full wipe and where to get the latest ROM? I'm inept at this sort of stuff so please send me to the most precise instructions you can think of.

Thanks again for all your time and trouble.

ok i would first switch your recovery to amon ra 2.3. it is much better then clockwork mod.

please use this guide:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

it has intsructions on how to switch recoveries and also how to flash roms.

once you have amon ra 2.3 installed i would flash mikg3.0 as your rom. it is waaaaaay better then stock and it has su cooked in. it is a sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 which our evos will never officially ever get. try it out from here:

I am following the instructions to install the amon ra file the directions say "HBOOT should see the file and select yes for update" but I am not getting the select yes option.....what now?

if hboot does not see it then it can be either:
1.the file is not named correctly. it needs to be PC36IMG. if your windows hides extensions then make sure not to add one to the name. otherwise it will be PC36IMG.zip.zip which will not work.

2.it is not on the card in the right spot. it needs to be just on the card. no folders.

3.or if you have a class 2g card. the evo has a hard time with those cards.
