Help Evo 4G Basics

Knoob

Newbie
Hey all,

Just got my Evo 4G about a week ago. This is my first Android phone so I'm quite unsure of navigation, applications, use of widgets, etc.

If someone could give me a run-down of getting my phone set up with all basic necessities I would really appreciate it. What I'm looking for is things like weather, basic apps (or widgets?), e-mail setup (personal Gmail account and school email which uses Gmail as their provider: @mail.gvsu.edu), and any other things you may feel useful to a new user.

Thanks,

Knoob

Cool, thanks!

Another aspect of having a smartphone that I'm still unsure of is using WiFi for your network signals and such. As far as I understand, turning on WiFi and connecting to a WiFi network will disable your cell provider network (in this case Sprint 3G/4G).

If I connect to a WiFi network will the Sprint 3G network go into standby mode? I have no service in my dorm room so if connecting to WiFi will give me signal to make calls I would be really impressed.

Any info will be highly appreciated,

-Knoob

Ok, thanks.

Do connecting to WiFi in a low signal area also make for longer battery life since the Sprint network will not be searching for service?
