Help EVO 4g Connect to PC Help

I have an EVO 4G phone and a HP Laptop. I recently bought a Rocketfish, micro usb to usb cable. The purpose is to transfer files from my phone to my laptop. At first my laptop would give me a popup saying the device wasn't recognised. I updated all my drivers today with driver genius, and now it doesn't see the cable at all. It charges, but it doesn't matter if i set the phone to disk drive, usb tethering, or whatever, all it does is charge. Also the usb symbol is not coming up on the phone either. Any ideas on what i can do?

If the cable is allowing the phone to charge then the cable should be fine. Have you rebooted the phone lately? If that doesnt work you can go to settings > language and keyboards and change the language to spanish sometimes this will allow the usb on the phone to recognise its plugged in and then give you the option of how to use the phone (Charge only, Disk drive etc)

Yea idk guys im really screwed up here. Kinda P.O'd too. I did a hard reset on the phone, redone the gmail thing and plugged the USB back in, NO LUCK. Still just charges. No usb symbol on top of the phone menu. Now it's not giving me a Disk Drive option. Only Charge, Sync, and tethering. Doesn't matter which i put it on, it only charges. All firmware and all updates are good.

The link for unrevoked is great i guess but if the USB isn't doing anything how do i download the drivers? I went to the website with the phone and it doesn't come up.

you can access the computer wirelessly if you have wireless service at home. you will need a program called airdroid. This uses your browser to connect to the phone. Does a good job of allowing you to transfer files between computer and phone. Your only draw back is you need to be hooked up to the computer for rooting. But to insure that its a windows issue can you download a live linux cd? If you can I would download 1 boot up to the live environment and plug the phone in. IF Linux can't pic it up then its a cable issue. If Linux can then its a windows issue. You may need to go to device manager in windows and uninstall the drivers and reboot the computer plug the phone up and see if windows will try to reinstall the drivers.
